Having your parents buy you a Happy Meal at McDonald’s was easily one of the best things when you were a kid. Being able to open that box and see what toy was inside was just like Christmas morning. Happy Meals have existed at the iconic fast food joint since 1979 and have been making kids happy ever since. The Happy Meal toys are sometimes a collaboration with another industry (movie based toys for example), or sometimes just an original McDonald’s creation. SUMMARIES:
- These pails have been released as a McDonald’s toy multiple times since the 1980s, and their designs commonly include images of witches, ghosts, and carved pumpkins.
- These sunglasses were bad, to say the least. The rims were the classic McDonald yellow, and the top part was made of Ronald McDonald spread arms, with his smiling face right in the middle.
- In 2016, McDonald’s decided to release a step counting wristwatch called the Step-It.
- McDonald concept of the line, which featured a set of various gardening tools was a great idea for promoting working outdoors, but the execution was questionable. One part of the collection was a set of gardening tools that featured a tiny rake and shovel.
- For the release of the movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, McDonald’s restaurant put out a line of Spider-Man based toys and announced that they would be for both boys and girls, earning praise.
- 4 variations of the poster were released and customers were supposed to collect them all.
- Ronald McDonald glove puppet was definitely not one of the best toys the restaurant’s ever released.
- McDonald’s had the genius idea of combining both of these things to create the American Idol MP3 Player Happy Meal toy.
- One of the creepiest clown related toys McDonald’s has ever put out is the Ronald McDonald mask, as part of the Happy Meal in 1974.
- McDonald’s included a book about the importance of eating healthy as its Happy Meal toy. The book is titled “The Goat Who Ate Everything” and it was written by John Montgomery.

My grandfather took the 1980s McDonald's pumpkin trick or treat pail I had back when I was a kid, put a hole in the back, and wired it up to serve as an actual jack-o-lantern. He's long-gone now, but I still use that jack-o-lantern he made out of it.

I love how simple my childhood was. Boys played house with the girls and the girls would play trucks with the boys. We didn't care who played with what when we were just having fun. Things feel complicated now or something lol

I liked the Halloween buckets. Reading various comments, I’m guessing most of us knew that the buckets were the “toy” itself. It was a traditional Happy Meal toy for awhile. We still have a mid-90s blue watering can and while small, it can water smaller plants.
I think those gardening toys were something I would have loved.
Same. My own child uses one of the holloween buckets every Holloween. I ended up with collecting a few of them. I ended up using others to hold the candy for trick or treaters.

I absolutely LOVED those buckets when I was a kid. Heck, I remember being disappointed one year when they had normal toys (still Halloween themed) instead of the buckets.

80s_Angel same here. I would put my hot wheels cars in mine and my sisters had their littlest pet shop animals in theres when we were little. I still have mine (the ghost and the witch) they were awesome and useful:)

Those buckets were legit! My family still has them in the bin where we keep all our Halloween costumes and decorations. One of the most legendary happy meals.

Everyone in the comments is confirming we LOVED the buckets!! It's almost all we're talking about. Lot's of parents get takeout on Halloween because they don't have time to make dinner and go trick-or-treating plus giving out candy 🍭

Kids didn't care if the toys were "sad"or not, they just liked the idea of something inside the Happy Meal they could play with. When I worked there, one Happy Meal had Little Golden Books, I remember one being The Poky Little Puppy. Kids loved them.

I realize it’s been said a lot, so apologies in advance but…I loved the buckets 😂
As someone also mentioned already, they were just too dang small to get a lot of candy. I learned this one year using the ‘glow in the dark’ ghost one (which was like, the third or fourth time the buckets were available.) dad was not too happy that we had to walk all the way home, empty it, and then go back out again so I could get more candy.😂

That Halloween bucket was everything to me. I had 3 and each bucket contained different toys . So it wasn’t that useless 😂.
I had the tiny bird feeder. It was too small for the bigger birds but the chickadees loved it, and I loved having them outside my window. I got more enjoyment out of that thing than any other fast food toy. Glad I got that and not the crappy shovel! lol

Sista Marina techincally it’s only useless if you choose not to use it. You could have used it in a Sandbox or for mountains...etc....in order to make it not useless you have to actually use it.

OKAY FIRST OF ALL, I was born in 2003 and let me tell you the Halloween buckets were my absolute favorite thing. I lived in a very rich family but I swear we almost never had fast food. We ate Olive Garden and Red Lobster and a place that no longer exists called Ryans. So on Halloween getting a bucket was my favorite thing ever! I still have a bucket today in my room. So don't be hating on my favorite buckets.
I think it's a pretty clever concept for McDonald's to put out healthy themed products as toys. Though they may be flops, the irony could be seen as a way to increase sales. To add, some parents could see it as, "Ok, well my kid is gonna eat, possibly with a super sweet dessert, then play with this ball or whatever and be tired from the exercise. That'll make it easier for me to put them to bed for school/church/etc." Which would also increase sales. So I think I can see where the marketing team came up with those ideas. They might not have worked, but the concept seems pretty clever.
I know, this isn't the subject, but, do you remember that terrifying meal box they came out with a few years ago? it had realistic eyes and mouth. AAAAHHH !!!

Normally whenever I went to mcdonalds I asked for the boy toy (even though I'm a girl). When I did I never wanted the cashier to see me as a girl so I would sit in the back of my mom's car and hide. I was a very smart child.

I never wore it I would just hold it and jump around or shake to see how many steps it would get I would usually only do this for about 15 minutes get bored and stop. But when my mom heard the news about the burns and blisters she told me about it took it away and threw it out rip

The thin, white, plastic gloves puppets weren't a Happy Meal prize - at least not at our McDonald's. They were part of the party favors for McDonaldland birthday parties. They were also part of an assortment of toddler supplies they saran-wrapped to highchair trays so parent wouldn't have to get them individually. I think there were also plastic bibs and napkins...not sure what else.
My favourite McDonalds toy was, the puzzle box from the Madagascar movie promotion. To open the box, you had to solve the puzzle. It was so cool! 😂
