@Att Att Virtually all medium to large size diesel generator sets these days have turbochargers. It allows getting more power from a physically smaller engine, and also has some efficiency benefits. Boost is proportional to the load on the generator, the more load there is, the more fuel is injected, resulting in more exhaust pressure, which spools up the turbo, creating more boost pressure.
Thank you for bringing us this excellent and very informative video presentation which is very much appreciated by the people. The sound of this is magnificent, it looks good and is very useful for organisations that rely on a constant supply of electricity such as hospitals and correctional facilities. The community would always feel confident knowing that they have such an excellent piece of machinery, especially with the reputation for reliability that Cummins diesel engines have. You are to be congratulated for providing us with this video.
I did some contracting work in a Cummins facility and saw their backup generator room. They have something like 10 of these that kick on at once. It's fucking impressive. When the power company gets over 15 cents per kwh they can produce their own power with these cheaper. The whole friggin' plant runs on these.
Diesels run more efficient not just at higher revs but also under load. Idling in a motor like this will cause wetstacking. Not to mention gen wont function.
If the tech had have shut it off properly using the start/stop button and not the on off switch it would have idled for two minutes at 750 rpm before shutting off to allow the turbos to cool/slow down.
I love the smell of diesel in the morning. You know, one time we had a power outage, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' solar panel. The smell, you know that diesel exhaust smell? The whole hill. Smelled like... power.
Used to do parts for gen sets and fire pumps, MTU’s, John Deere’s, Detroit’s and Cummings, Wakashas, Atlas and Allis Chalmers and many others...miss that job.
Good to hear they worked as intended! Losing power at a hospital is always a scary situation, which is why they rely on backup generators to keep them up and running.
I work on these every day so why am I watching this? 😊. Very good bit of kit apart from that horrid PCC3200 controller. I'd ditch that in an instant if it were mine.
This has 3 primary, 3 secondary spin ons, and ours we took it one step further and put 3 more raycore filters in between the primary and secondary for a total of 9 with a one inch supply fuel hose and minimum half inch return. Voids a 800 gallon external fuel tank running balls in under 8 hours
I work for Cummins- we recently had a tech working on one of these in the downtown of a large city, and he got his hand chopped off trying to catch a rag getting sucked up into the fan. Love these units, but that fan makes me nervous, as well as the drive unit when we are rebuilding them and testing them on the stand.
This unit is meant for the North American market. The line frequency here is 60Hz. Also, this unit is typically used in commercial installations, thus why the line to neutral voltage is 277V, while the line to line is 480V. A typical house would have 120V line to neutral, and either 208V or 240V line to line, depending on whether the incoming power is three phase or single (split) phase.
Roly Fisher you can power an antire building with this Generator, i just recently powerd an entire shopping mall with this same exact model- entire shopping center! There transformer blew so they needed temporary power
Serious heavy industrial use for giant equipment with the 480V leg to leg and 277V leg to neutral only. The company that uses this would also need a separate 1ph 110V/220V to run small machines, lighting and office equipment. This is under the pretext that this is used in the event of a power failure.
It Looked like to me that that had a cold start to full Load in less than 30 seconds and Then From Full Load to Shut Down..I Dont Think that guy was NO Gen tech at all..Almost Every one i know of says ya got to get them to operating temp before applying the load & Then take the load off & run them a fuw mins more to cool it Down before shutting down ! ! Or Did I Miss That Part ? ? ? ?
Thanks for pointing this out! We film these videos at the end of our full length load bank tests, so the engine is fully warm. Since we sell these units nationwide, and sometimes worldwide, we are careful to avoid doing anything that would cause harm to the engine or generator.
Klok cumins mah memang keren, saya sudah pasang intalasinya yang 2000 , sama 1500 KVA .. Sudah ada berapa mesin cumins aja yang sudah saya pasang instalasinya
Amazing how tight of a servo loop they have on the throttle. It must be computer controlled. The old mechanical regulators would wander around a lot more than the computerized ones.
I want to use that for my electric bike. Can I put the 1500 kW Diesel Generator on a bike trailer and use it instead of batteries? How much does it weigh?
Is it common on a Cummins for the crankcase vent to be just open to atmosphere but located UNDER the unit? Ours at work were and it wound up coating everything from that point up to and including the radiator with an oily goo....
Yes, this is a common configuration for diesel generator sets "as shipped" from the factory. The solution is to purchase and install either a "crankvent" system which is pretty much a big can with metal filtration to catch the oil mist (which you dump out periodically), or install a system which captures the mist from the crankcase vent hose, filters it, and then puts the filtered air back into the engine air intake system - - while draining the captured oil back into the engine sump. The first system is pretty cheap (a few hundred dollars), the second is pretty expensive (many thousands). The REALLY cheap option is to extend the crankcase vent tube with long rubber hosing to the outside of the building and let it vent to the outside.
The most beautiful sound on the planet, .. during an outage.
Exactly. It gives me comfort knowing that life can go on as normal, even during an extended outage.
Gotta love the exhaust clag getting pulled into the fan on startup!
I want one ! I have absolutely no use for but I still want one, I would fire it up on Sunday mornings
What you really want is one of the EMD 2 strokes - turbo and/or supercharged. Used in locomotives and tugboats. The sound - pure music.
@@ianboard544 i totally agree give me a 567 in a shed! or 645 or 710!

Ok, but honestly. That's the smoothest diesel rundown I've EVER heard. That engine is incredibly well made.

True. They’ll even invite big customers over and flip the factory from the grid to generators to show off!
Want to know more :D hit me up man, i would go to US just to see this :D
So they need 15 Megawatts just for a facility?
Which facility?
PLEASE make a video man, don't tease us
I have one fitted to my Mountfield mower...a bugger to start on the rope pull starter...had to get the missus to do it for me !
