As trucker from the USA who retired last year, I really enjoyed this video. My wife and I moved to Germany a year ago and your big rigs are DEFINITELY different than ours! I have never seen the electronic mirrors mounted INSIDE the windows. That would take some getting used to, I suppose, but it makes them easier to keep clean. Since the camera faces to the rear, it would be less of an issue with snow, rain, dirt, etc. My biggest worry might be something going wrong with the electronics and being stuck in the middle of nowhere. I notice the steering wheel and switch gear strongly resemble the 2020 Freightliner Cascadia I drove before retirement - but that's because Mercedes owns Freightliner (and Western Star). The tractors in the USA are almost all the 'conventional' layout, with the engine and front axle out in front of the driver. In the EU, your trucks are all the cab-over-engine (flat nose) design because your roads are so small and the stricter size limits prohibit the bigger US rigs. The Mercedes Actros is truly a remarkable truck, but would be too small for most over-the-road truckers in the USA; especially for team operations with lots of closet space and two bunks. I never drove a cab-over-engine tractor in my career; which would have been quite an experience! Sometime while I am here, I'd love to chat with a German trucker and swap some stories. 🙂

Aren't these trucks completely electric? If so these will not be coming anytime soon. Probably looking closer to 2030 as no truck stop has yet made plans for electric trucks.
Que luxo essa versão! Trabalho numa versão inferior do 2548 e já acho uma nave mas depois desse vídeo chego a conclusão que a minha mulinha não tem quase nada.
can you zoom-in the mirrors? since they are cameras with displays it would be extremely useful for truckers to make them zoom in on the back of the truck when parking.
I am a retired trucker from the USA and currently live in Germany. I don't think that a cab-over-engine (flat nose) tractor has been sold in the States since the old Freightliner Argosy twenty years ago. In Germany, all trucks are COE (no conventionals) because of the smaller roads and size restrictions. ( The COE would probably have a rougher ride to it. ) I used to have a Freightliner Cascadia day cab and even it would be much too big to navigate German roads - let alone pulling a 53ft trailer. Nevertheless, I really like this Mercedes Actros tractor. I'd love to chat with a German trucker sometime and see it up close for myself. The switchgear, steering wheel and buttons resemble the Cascadia, but that's because Freightliner and Western Star are owned by Mercedes. The electronic mirrors would take some getting used to, but at least they would stay clean a lot better than the traditional ones. GREAT VIDEO!!
@@1VaDude I've been in this business since 1987 and yes I definitely remember the cabover days. Lol. Started when I was 21 and thanks be to God and God alone I'm still trucking! It's what I was born to do!
@@lastone1759 -- I retired last year (four years earlier than I planned) because my wife got transferred overseas. I still miss some aspects of it, though. I am keeping my CDL-A valid just in case I want to drive part-time after we move back to the States. Keep on trucking, sir!!
Why doesn’t Daimler close Freightliner & brings this to the USA? Is a much better product & no hood. Means easier backing at Shippers & receivers. 🤷♂️
The last COE tractor (that I can think of) sold in the USA was the Freightliner Argosy and that was 20+ years ago. With the roads in the US being so bad, a COE would not be a very smooth ride compared to a conventional. Most drivers in the USA also want to have more room. Before I retired last year, my tractor was a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia and the similarity to the Mercedes (interior, buttons, steering wheel, switches, gear shift, etc.) is definitely there. Of course, Mercedes owns Freightliner and Western Star. As much as I enjoyed having the longer 'conventional' layout with more space & a smoother ride, I think there would be a big market for a good, high-quality COE tractor for P&D routes with a lot of city driving, tight parking lots, etc.
The closest you will get in the USA to an Actros will be a Freightliner - probably a Cascadia; but that's still going to be a conventional layout. Mercedes owns Freightliner and Western Star. The last cab-over-engine truck I know of sold in the USA was the Freightliner Argosy and that was about twenty years ago. Most US drivers want the smoother ride and larger amount of space that you get in a 'conventional' tractor. I never drove a cab-over-engine tractor, but I imagine the poor quality of US highways would beat you to death.

The Merc has the worse bed I've ever slept in.The cameras are a disaster for so many reasons. The batteries are a nightmare also and it constantly bleeps when parked up for more than 12 hours.Ive a 2346 and there's more power in an electric scooter. I will say though, there's plenty of room and it's comfortable to drive

Biggest Actros failures in recent years.. Seats working loose at the rear resulting in awful back support. Mirror mechanisms becoming loose to a point they begin to move excessively in the wind. Rain sensors *becoming dirty* or failing entirely, leaving you with no low speed setting. Bluetooth failing to pair with many different phones including reputable brands and shoddy connectivity in general leading to the "streaming shortly. Not available please wait" message. Repeated 'ghost' error messages on lights that are fully working. Leading to you being treated with a bright yellow light appearing on your dash every few seconds. Sluggish gearbox that fails to react quick enough. i.e. on a roundabout you slow to allow a vehicles right of way, attempt to power up only for the gear selection to go, 6...4...go. Or if you're really lucky 6...4... N (as you've pulled in to said roundabout) to finally get in to 4. No I don't have a lead foot and Scanias work great in the same scenario. Also do away with the basic 430bhp varient and start with the standard high cab 450. If these issues are rectified in this newer model then there maybe hope but I won't be holding my breath.
