I saw Steve Martin back in the late 70's (sorry...dating us both) in concert in San Diego and laughed so hard I had tears running down my face and a side ache from laughing so hard. His comedy was and is brilliant. What I love about Steve Martin is that he is many faceted and I love that he is still a pretty humble guy who switched gears and now plays his banjo and is making CDs.

My dad is one that went full on gray/white at a super young age. Was "salt and pepper" by 23 years old-way before I was even born. I'm 36 now, he's 62, and his hair's been the color of Steve Martin's for roughly 30 years now(so he was in his very early 30's). My dad without gray hair wouldn't be my dad. LOL AND what's cool about it is, like Steve, since he's been gray for so long through his younger years, he looks like he's barely aged. For a 62 year old man, you could easily peg him for being in his early 50's. He just does. not. age. He's basically looked the same my entire life. /cool story

Hard to believe Steve is *72 years old.* (Born August 14, 1945) I LOVE this guy. I have since _The Jerk_ and listening to his comedy albums.
I think it's an interesting fact that he's working with Martin, because that means that it's Martin S. working with S. Martin! Their names bookend each other nicely. ( Would love to see a sequel to _The 3 Amigos_ )

I wouldn't say it was awkward, but Colbert is a little pretentious. He doesn't like things to get too silly, because he likes to be thought of as clever and witty. And he's overly careful not to be made a fool of. You can see a lot of that here.

This is classic Steve Martin comedy. Also, he seemed either drunk or high. Steve's always been a more slapstick style comedian. Back then, they wrote their comedy bits/sketches whereas a lot of the comedic timing now plays an awkward improvisation. He's very tongue-in-cheek, so while a lot of people take him seriously, he's typically just being a satire of himself.

If you haven't been watching Steve Martin throughout his career, I can understand why you might think this interview was awkward. But they're doing a comedy shtick, parodying the typical late night show interview by introducing fake sparring. Any apparent contentiousness is intentional, and has been typical for interviews of Steve Martin for many years.

Wait, I didn't even think some people might not get it.. Seems obvious.. I mean I did grow up watching his films but it still seems like an obvious bit they're doing. Stephen is great at doing bits anyway, and Steve Martin is legend; they have a live audience to entertain, and also like to have fun instead of doing some boring talkshow night after night. It's way more fun for a sketch comedy actor/comedian and one of the greatest comedians ever to do some wild improv bit and play off the other. Lots of celebrities/talkshow hosts are great at this. One of my favs is Robin Williams on Craig Ferguson.

9:20 Colbert: "Do you do films anymore?"
That's gotta be one of the worst questions you can ask an actor. He's basically saying that if he does films, then he's not even aware of them. Nice one.

RedLightMax Steve Martin came to promote a banjo album, talked about his play, haven't mentioned filming a movie, so I think that's a legit question.

I thought the exact same thing. His emphasis and delivery of jokes I'd very similar to Dave.

My first experience of Ojai, Ca was during my first visit to America in early 2012, prior to my emigration. It came in the form of Chuck Testa.
