Thank you, Maliek. As usual, you have given a balanced perspective. For many of us who are not into professional video editing, the monthly upgrades seem not worthy enough. But as they say, to each his own. I am a lifetime licence holder and I upgrade when I feel that I need the newer features in my videos. It may be every 2 or 3 or 4 years, but I do a personal evaluation and take a call.

I love powerdirector. It's the easiest to be self taught. I also enjoy your videos. For me, 365 vs lifetime, I'd still lean to lifetime. I don't use the program enough to justify a yearly subscription as I use powerdirector solely for small little self projects, not for job or major projects. Of course, to other fellow PD users, it's a different story. Keep up the videos! Looking forward to your next tips and tricks vid.

I still own 16 as a lifetime license, but have been a subscription user ever since. Just the regular uprgrades make the subscription plan a good deal. The pandemic cut down the number of videos I could shoot and edit in recent years, but the value of the subscription is still worth the price.

After 2-3 years as a 365 subscriber, I'm being pulled over to DaVinci. It's not as hard as I thought it would be.
The same footage rendered by the two editors seems to look better, smoother in DaVinci's version. Transitions have fewer hiccups, more bits seem to have been crammed into the rendered output. I'm not interested in the clever effects PD keeps piling on, although the Shutterstock stuff is certainly handy. I probably won't renew at the end of this year.

I anded up going for the lifetime license. I really don't need the extras in the 365 version re video editing and since I have a home studion I make my own music and sounds. I'm not really a fan of subscription services tbh but realistically I will only see a cost benefit of the lifetime version after three years.

I've been HELLA debating if I go with 365 or Perpetual, given I like the 2020-2022 timeline layout better and don't want to upgrade from that.
AI tools like sky replacement or motion tracking isn't important as I do everything by masks and keyframes, my only concern is losing transitions as I use those quite often but can make do if I lose them. Thank you for the comparison, I feel way better about getting Perpetual now!

Maliek, to be honest, the main reason I use Cyberlink products is YOU! Your instruction has been invaluable and hopefully, my small contribution monthly to you helps. Anyway, I need to point out one flaw (at least what I have discovered). For the most part, I consistently use three Cyberlink products, PowerDirector, PhotoDirector and Audio Director. To me those three packages are absolutely necessary to do editing as I use both video and stills in my project along with getting the best audio I can. Last year, I upgraded to ColorDirector 9. However, since I hardly ever used it as I also have taken a lot of lighting courses from a local community college and attended many workshops for lighting, the need for Color Correction was not a priority, until a couple of months ago when I wanted to fix some exposure on a video. That's when a whole series of problems began. I launched my ColorDirector 9 but was stopped cold as the program would not allow me to do anything. I had an error message indicating I had a trial version of the software, and even though I have a key following the purchase of the software, I could get any help from customer support in the way of a living, breathing human being to answer my essential question: if Cyberlink shows I have a trial version, then what happened to the stand alone version I paid for? So, I went through all the dialog boxes (each time having to close the 360 subscription ads) and I could not find any indication that the stand alone version for ColorDirector 9 can be downloaded for re-installation. That's a huge problem, especially if you have to re-install because your hard drive crashed, or buying a new computer to replace the computer that the original programs were loaded on. Essentially, what I did, was give up on ColorDirector 9, even though I had paid for it less that a year ago, and for my videos, always shooting on manual settings and always metering and really keeping the basics of lighting in mind. Any help or suggestions on how to fix my problem of replacing the download version of ColorDirector 9 would be fully appreciated. Steve

@@PDU_Tutorials Thanks for the response Maliek. I think what happened is that there was some problem on my end, and that what I needed to do was uninstall and re-install the program. Unfortunately, there is no way to download that version from Cyberlink. The upside is that it means I need always to get the shot right from the camera or as good a shot as possible. I still have older versions of ColorDirector that allows me to change the exposure and contrast, plus there are some presets in my older version.

So I have just bought a Canon C70... I have powerdirector 365 it is not compatible with CRM Raw HQ ST LT, XF-AVC YCC 422, MP4 YCC 422 or MXF files, I cannot use the high quality codecs that I bought this camera for. I can use MP4 YCC 420 10bit (the lowest quality codec it has fyi). I like powerdirector 365 and do not wish to switch editor's. Can someone let me know if Cyberlink will add these in the future (and possibly when) ? If not why would an editor leave these codecs out from a camera company that owns a majority share of the market place? I mean there is Apple ProRes HQ 422 then why not the high end canon codecs then? Thank you for all your educational videos they have helped but now I may have to switch and don't really want to. Love your channel keep up the fine job you are doing here.

These are questions for CyberLink and I don't work for CyberLink. There is no way for me to know when or if they will add those codecs. My opinion is that cost and target audience drive the decision on which codecs they will include. If CyberLink is targeting beginning to pro editors who use prosumer cameras I don't think they would pay the fees for the license to professional codecs. If CyberLink is targeting users of cinema cameras (like the C70 and C200 both of which I own) they would probably pay the fees for the professional codecs. These are just guesses so I could be totally wrong because as I said...I don't work for CyberLink. Just sharing my opinion.

The present situation with Wondershare Filmora clearly shows that under no circumstances users should go for the lifetime software anymore because "lifetime" nowadays means "a couple of years top". It's not even limited to software, but hardware too. My mic isn't compatible with Win11 and I had to downgrade my laptop to Win10. We can't upgrade our Intel processors without the entire motherboard exchange etc... Companies can stop supporting our old versions or it won't work with the new operating system. I'm not happy with this situation where everything needs to be rented, subscribed or borrowed, but no much we can do about it.

    • @PDU_Tutorials
      @PDU_Tutorials  Год назад +1

Noipe, not much we can do.
The Filmora situation involved free lifetime updates. So every time Wondershare came out with a new version of Filmora, lifetime update customers got the new version for free. As a business that made zero sense. It was a model they could have never sustained and they never should have even went there.
CyberLink offers a lifetime license of the current version of the software which you own for a lifetime. It does not include free lifetime updates to new versions of the software. Unfortunately that license won't be compatible with all future versions of Windows so that's a different issue to deal with.
No matter what we do, companies will always change things to keep making money and stay in business.

The subscription model is a no-brainer for software companies. There is some kind of clause that gets them generous tax breaks if they say a product is in continual development. A lot have moved over to subscription models.
At least there's is more affordable. Cheapest I can get photo and video editing from Adobe was £31/m, way too much for a hobbyist.
And all companies are getting ever greedier, seen that with my grocery shop which has doubled in price since Covid and now the quantities are shrinking. They've got us all by the short and curlies unfortunately.
