Thank you for the subs! I wonder what happens with freelancer seiyuu, do they have to pay their own money to rent a recording booth for tape auditions, or whether there's any chance to even do auditions in the first place if they're not already top-ranked and well known around the industry.
I read or heard somewhere that 99% of roles are via auditions, so probably yes. I think some of these free lancers are still being tagged with their own managers (usually their managers just follow them whenever they shift agencies or so) so they probably go book some studio somewhere. Or maybe they just give up on tape auditions altogether, who knows. But I do know that sound directors do also call in some of the voice actors they want to audition for certain roles etc
