Just a thought and I know you already have this mounted. but if you do this again I would suggest placing the tape on the roof rack and not on the mounting plate. would make for much easier placment.
Yeah I don't even run this system anymore. I've since upgraded the rack to Front Runner and use their shovel holster which makes it so much easier to take out and use. This system was not good lol
I have one on my Tyger Basket and the only real problem I have with it it pad lock needs to have a thin shackle and would love it if Bolt Lock would have one. If Bolt Lock had a longer and thinner shackle this way I won't have to carry extra keys.
I don't run this anymore honestly. It was a PITA to mount both shovel and axe without one almost falling on my head. I now run just a shovel with front runner mounts
In one of your comments to one of your viewers, you said this mount is horrible. I was going to buy one but now curious why its a horrible mount. Thanks
Two main reasons: 1) Because the holder holds both axe and shovel in ONE holder, trying to put both those things in with one hand and putting the cover plate on with the other is a pain in the butt. I would put the bottom item on then put the cover plate then try to hold both those things with my left hand while trying to put the top item in with my other hand. And because axe and shovels aren't necessarily super lights, then things getting off balance and sliding etc. No problem if I had 3 hands lol 2) Again, with both items being in one holder, if one item's handle is a bit thicker than the other's, then now the plate won't sit flat. It's just a lot of pieces you're trying to manipulate at one time. So then when you want JUST the axe or JUST the shovel, you're not even wanting to go through the hassle of taking apart the whole thing just to get to it,
Even though this is from 3 years ago. I have been recently been shopping for a shovel and axe mount and I found that the mount is the cheapest one out there. I got it for 44 bucks before taxes.
The axe is a Fiskar's and the shovel was a shovel I already had but spray painted black. It's starting to peel a bit so I'm going to probably invest in a new one.
It would with some modifications and creating custom brackets but to be honest, I took mine down and just used Quick Fist grips instead. This was a HUGE pain in the butt to remove the shovel and axe that you almost run into the danger of it falling on your head while you're trying to get it out.
Not sure as I was mounting it to a Garvin expedition rack. But I’ll say this...I stopped using this mount awhile ago. It was a huge pain trying to coordinate axe and shovel into it. As you try to remove one the other moves and sometimes the other would fall etc when putting it all back on. Not very safe when an axe is about fall on you lol
It was just a regular shovel that I spray painted but I've since bought a smaller one from front runner and the axe is a black fiskars one. I've also stopped using this holder cuz it's horrible
Lol. It's Florida. No one cares. BUT it's not even there anymore anyway. This holder was more of a pain than it's worth. I switched roof racks for the Front Runner one and got their shovel holder. I also don't even carry the axe anymore at all because I have never used it once.
@@Blastfence1 I don't know where you would need a permit for either of those. I know down here a ton of trucks and overlanders have them and I've never been pulled over and asked
Prob not. It’s made for the smittybilt defender roof rack and I had to do some mods to make it fit here. The Garvin rack has the sidewalls that are square vs to the Gobi which are tubes. I may actually change this out anyway and use quick fists instead because it’s a pain to remove and put back the shovel and axe
@@AsianStvex That's exactly why I didn't go that route the first time. This one had security locking features. Might have to just get a bike chain if you go with quick fists. That being said, I'll say something a lot of people have said: "If someone wants your shovel and axe and will go out of their way to get it, they must need it more than you do." lol

Yeah it's just a pain to get the stuff out. It kept getting floppy on me and when I removed one the other would fall out
Thank you for this informative video. Would you happen to know the vertical space (distance) between the top and bottom pre-drilled holes?
I don't anymore as I don't run this one anymore
Hey. What Axe and shovel is that? Love the matte black.
The axe is a Fiskar's and the shovel was a shovel I already had but spray painted black. It's starting to peel a bit so I'm going to probably invest in a new one.
@@BaptismOverland I actually did some sloothing and figured out the brand of the axe...is it the chopping axe? 28"? :)
Yep that’s it! Was actually about to send a link

@@BaptismOverland any links for that axe please

Ive got 6" from top of rail to bottom on my roof rack where I would mount this bracket.. would this work?

Is this mount working on a Thule 859XT Canyon basket ??

What shovel and axe did u use they look like they match

We get it. You love midwest emo haha.

Do you have a permit for that axe 🪓

@@BaptismOverland Well I am not sure 🤔 but don’t you have to have a permit for the shovel I only said axe 🪓 because that one is obvious!
