I notice, you fail to notice the fact it is not a melting pot, they have pride because they are from similar backgrounds and are a community. People living together from different cultures and places is not a community, it is a very very slow race war.
I think what you said is a lot closer to the answer. I don't think the issue is that people are no longer proud, I think it's that the things people are proud of have changed. I think the shift to big, fast city life has broken down the societal structures that were in place in the olden days. Being able to express yourself as an individual seems to be at the forefront of modern day life. Something sociologists call being a "cosmopolitan" if memory serves correct. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. For example, closely knit societies might make life difficult for people who don't conform to their standards and can therefore be less welcoming to outsiders, but on the other hand, people that are part of a closely knit community can have stronger bonds with one another ... everything has it's good and bad I guess. I say let other people be happy (as long as they aren't breaking the law or harming others) cause ultimately, we can't dictate how other people behave (without doing away with the ideals of democracy).
When I married my husband in 2013, his 75 year old mother still had her white gloves that she wore to ‘go into the city.’ She also would put her makeup on and do her hair every morning even though she wasn’t going anywhere. She always looked put together and carried herself with such class. I can’t explain it, she had this aura of how things used to be and should be.
That’s me. I like to shop in vintage stores and i have little white gloves I wear all the time. I love dressing up, even my ugly work uniform. I might have to wear an ugly, black, unisex shirt, but I do my hair, put on lipstick, and wear a skirt with it. Ladies, even the lower class ones, had so much beauty. I want to be like that. I get a lot of compliments about my vintage outfits.
Just like my grandpa, he's 86 and still puts on a shirt and trousers every morning even if he's not going out, he's always clean shaven. It took my partner several years to convince me that I should make myself look somewhat presentable around the house. I thought that I didn't need to and could relax because "no-one" sees me, well my partner sees me! Now I make the effort even when I don't go out and you know what I feel better when I do. Now I want to do more things with care like my grandpa does
It's ALL about "respect". Giving limited respect even to people who do not deserve it will never be a wrong move. It is this prevailing social atmosphere that somehow "I AM MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU" that is disintegrating everything worthwhile. I try my best to give everyone respect, even when it is extremely difficult because I do not know what this individual has gone through & surprisingly quite often I am amazed at the responses I get. I have had strangers completely fall apart before me weeping because I offered them simple, basic kindness & respect. Telling me that they cannot remember the last time someone treated them that way. This is damned frightening to me. I also had a teenager stop dead in his tracks & say, "HEY! Old Man! Yer alright . . . I'm gonna remember that Dude", I looked down at his hip & he was holding a Glock 9. Giving people respect costs me nothing. That time had I not done that & threw out some verbal bullcrap I probably would be in Intensive Care at best. RESPECT! You nailed it -
More like it was nice in America at a time... *right* after WWII... We all know where and why our industry and engineering exploded in the best way... we helped fund *both* sides. Within less than 2 decades it started making its decline. Sold off. Times were... "booming". Then the same players siphoned *all* the money and shaped their new monopoly board. Money can't be eaten. Enjoy.
Everything you’re describing is written about in a book called The Walmart Effect. The world is a reflection of what people value. They slowly started to value cheap over quality. Quantity over utility. Single use over durability. As those values started to pour over it became even apart of how we view each other and relationships. “I’ll just get a new phone, car, house, dog, boyfriend, husband, friend etc”
Not really. People in a America value "being comfortable" and pride themselves stating "people should like me by who I'm on the inside da not by what I wear". And "cheap" stuff... I rather toss a pair of shoes in the garbage if I'm being charged 50% of what I paid for them to repair them.
It's an excellent read, having visited scottland I was amazed when I mentioned the salmon chapter of the book people looked at me like i was crazy. You'd think it would be required reading how a massive industry evaporated over night.
Exactly. My ex husband's friend said if he won't like his wife anymore, he'll just get another. They're Vietnamese. My ex remarried a woman back home. After sponsoring her out here, as soon as she got her permanent residency visa, she immediately dumped him for another man with a house & a better car. Well what goes around comes around. I've also heard ppl get rid off their pets when they don't match the new colour of their decor/furniture. I'm sure all the above ppl have lost their minds. This just isn't normal.
@@curlyhairdudeify you don’t understand that that’s the problem. The cheap thing shouldn’t be 50% of the cost. It shouldn’t even exist because we shouldn’t value a disposable product that isn’t compostable and harms the planet. The well made thing should be 50% of the cost it is, and it should last forever. If society had its head on right, this would be how it is. We would be spending our time and energy improving humanity. Instead, we have a select few among the wealthy that leverage the system to enrich themselves beyond measure while everyone else’s quality of life is reduced to near nothing. The plot has been lost.

@@hyacinthbucket3803 I totally tuned out of modern music since the mid 80s. I discovered Baroque music 1600-1750 by Vivaldi for violin & various harpsichord music. Very beautiful. Also music by JS Bach. Handel is good to. Listen to his Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. It will be familiar & so beautiful. That's where great music was at. Although I love music from the 60s & 70s, and some from the 80s, it's the Baroque that puts me in a dreamworld. I love it the most.
You have eloquently stated what I carry around in my heavy heart each day. Society has fallen so hard I no longer want to live in this wrecked world. The lack of class, grace, diplomacy, accountability, passion, INTELLIGENCE and COMPASSION, crushes me daily. Hope you're doing alright brother. You should watch Academy of Ideas video on the life-cycle of societies as seen in comparison to living organisms. They all have an average life-span, a birth, a pioneer age, a high-noon (peak) state, a decline, and an eventual collapse. As of now we are in an age of nihilistic confusion. A loss of order and ensuing chaos, while any virtue of generational morals - let alone any positive societal/popular culture sentiment toward adhering to religious values. It is in fact quite the opposite that is pushed unto the masses in today's contemporary culture, that worships a life of vice, overindulgence, and hedonism. Everything that you saw in this video from the beautiful past, was a product of people who were guided by the antithesis of what the general masses adhere to in contemporary western societies - which have all been pushed by powers who genuinely want to see us rot for their own personal gain and underlying motives. We are living in a purgatory - our society is on technocratic life support if you will. In a state where it should collapse but it can't - whether it be from the powers at will creating such a multilayered and dependent form of existence to a point where we are falling dead onto our luxury safety nets of technology and late-stage capitalist comforts; or perhaps we are all too fearful to make a real change, and destroy what has been destroying us for generations - because we are all too content in our contemporary comfort zones. Something needs to change. Those who are capable of critical thinking already know who is pulling the strings. They are pretty open about it these days. I like your videos, usually entertaining. This one shook me up. I am 63 years old. When I was a kid, we were taught that if we got in trouble, any adult could be trusted to help us. It was mostly true. We went everywhere, rode our bikes, hiked, got home by sunset. The streets and sidewalks were in excellent repair and clean. We just didn't see trash on the roads, in the parks, in the vacant lots. I was eight before I knew a person that had been the victim of a crime. I was thirteen before I knew of a kid with divorced parents. This was not a tiny town in Wyoming, it was Los Angeles. Younger people don't believe that such a world ever existed.
It all brakes down to greed, how much can be made from as little as possible, effort ,quality, creativity, passion and principles all die in that endeavor.

My grandparents lived in rural Illinois before the drugs, squalor, obesity, and shame engulfed our country. A farmer, a housewife, a school teacher, and a self employed electrician. Lower middle class by today's standards and lived incredibly modest lifestyles. No vacations outside of their domestic honeymoons. No government assistance. They kept their front yards tidy. Wore suits and ties to the bank. Kept one immaculately maintained vehicle. Put beautiful simple meals on the table. They attended church potlucks, helped their neighbors, and raised their children. My last grandparent died in 2002. All of my happiest memories are from when they lived.
I grew in a small town in North Wales. We (parents) owned and built 4 houses. On the next field they set up social housing(your projects) or council houses in our parlance. As a kid we used to play around the site. They had better specifications than our house. Fast forward 40 years later they are shite holes of welfare beneficiaries, drink , drugs, single parents and social problems. Their parents grew up in council housing and were solid hardworking people , most if not all, of whom served in the Armed Services and knew war, tough times and post colonial conflicts. Let’s not forget that all those nice things from back in the day were only available to the happy few. Even taking the train was a thing for the elite and something special. Nowadays there are plenty of products / services that are amazing in terms of craftsmanship, build quality etc… but again, mostly only for the happy few. Modern production techniques and new materials made (cheap) mass production possible, so now the less fortunate can also have some nice-ish things.

Terry Goodkind’s book The faith of the fallen. Deals with the idea of beauty in a society. It’s not an accident that there is so much ugliness around us. Beauty uplifts the soul. Ugliness destroys it.
For me, there was a serious decline after the 80s. Once the 90s started, I felt and saw the change in everything. I was 20 in 1990 and already knew at that point that the best days were behind.
I was 22 in 1990. I was as just finishing up an Army enlistment. The last raid in the Middle East was based on a big lie. From then on, I have been doing my own research and all of our human history dating back 3,000 years was a lie. That was the fall of man. It hasn’t changed much. I'm glad people are addressing this decline. Even at my workplace people show up in wrinkled clothing, athletic gear, or pajamas and they don't look embarrassed. I don't dress up really, I wear simple shirts and jeans and still manage to outdress everyone. The bar is so low and it's scary.

He was complaining that they weren't willing to negotiate on the interest rate. I thought maybe they weren't willing to come down is because you were dressed like a slob. Maybe they figured your weren't always going to be earning that kind of money and have to bet against the odds. It's the same reason why people with bad credit pay higher interest rates.
My grandpa told me a lot of Stories about character. One he shared is when he was a kid he grew up on a farm. He would go to the barn before school to feed the animals and he said not uncommon to find hobos sleeping there. He said his mom would feed them breakfast and allowed them to leave but they would not leave until they worked off the free food. He said the men said all they had was their character and honor and that they had to work off the handout. That was not too many years ago. Things have really changed.

My Grandma’s home also served as a roadhouse for travelers. Everyone who came to her door was offered something to eat. Never mind the fact this went on during the Great Depression. And the fact they were newly immigrated from Austria/ Hungary and spoke broken English. Four children to house and feed, having faced famine in their old country. The bones I live on were very courageous people.
And a sense of community. Dads washing cars, cutting the grass. Moms getting Sunday dinner ready. Kids playing OUTSIDE IN THE SUNSHINE. Not staring mindlessly at their tablets.
One of the biggest culture shocks when I moved from Europe to USA was exactly that, the way people dress. I am constantly being asked why do I "dress up" when I leave the house. I just don't wear flip flops and pajamas in the store because I respect myself.
Garbage everywhere. I seen a 1/2 tub of ice cream on the road one time. No sense in putting it in the freezer or letting someone else have any. Who does that? The thought of buying an individual serving never entered their pea sized brain.

It's such a vicious cycle. I definitely let myself go. I feel like I'm living like a robot. Don't care about the way I dress, I eat, I don't exercise because my work just take so much from me...I have to do better because I'm getting depressed living that way
i’m 40 and my dad always pointed out how people use to be, no fat people or very few, everyone dressed in a suit or nice dress… sucks it’s not this way anymore
traveling around the world I realized its mostly a U.S problem. LMAO mexico is poor but if you get invited to a birthday, bbq, weekend, church etc, they dress nice
@@kalidilerious yep! In indonesia too. Most people wear their best clothes to go out (malls, cities, churches, etc). They only dress casually at home or at the beach. Most natives here dont go to restaurants or malls for tourists (white) while we r uncomfortable eating and watching people in swimsuits. Disgusting.
You father probably grew up in town/city and never saw what real poverty looks like. These flashy cigars/pianos/cars that you see in b/w photos was only the lives of upper middle class+ crowd. Today you and a millionare can own the same phone and can travel in the same flight. That's the difference, that's why things look so mundane. But the fact is we are making advancements everyday that are way beyond your comprehension. Must admit that the respect and value of things has surely withered. But I guess that's the price we pay to advance at the rate that we are.
I love convenient clothes and cheap cars that almost everyone can afford. As a teenager I was often told by adults to wear clothes, shoes, hairstyle etc 'like girls should', so glad that it's mostly gone by now and those kids can wear shitty clothes if they want to
The photo of the shoes tossed around the aisle strikes a nerve in me of when I worked at target and had to constantly clean the area because so many mothers and their kids had absolutely zero regard or respect for anything in that department. One night I actually asked a mother to tell her kids not to throw our shoes across the aisles no joke told me “that’s your job” and reported me to the service desk. But, it was very foolish of her to do that because after she had to tattle on me for “shaming” her, security stopped her from leaving because she was recorded stealing a pair of shoes in her purse. So yeah aside from being an ignorant sloth probably coasting through life on govt welfare she was also a thief and instilled those concepts on her kids.
There's people who have this mentality that if they make a mess, leave their tray at the table etc, the company will hire someone just to pick up the stuff. They think they're helping! Also, some people are also assholes. I work at a clothing store and how most of our customers leave the fitting rooms has me dumbfounded. My mom would beat me if I left clothes on the floor or hanging from anywhere after using the fitting room.
What I have noticed is the decline of craftsmanship in houses.Mine was built in 1890,beautiful woodwork and floors, the complete design for cross breezes for cooling, the transom windows, the fantastic porches. Our kids have newer houses and when you shut the door it feels like the whole house will fall in.The older houses have the solid and built to last craftmanship. There was pride in their work, and thought in the design.
My house was built in 2018 by Fleetwood Homes. I've already had to replace the one-piece master bathroom shower stall because it cracked by the drain due to the builders not bothering to properly support it. There was water damage from that one. My one-piece front bathroom tub had a crack in the inner sidewall, thankfully I caught that one before any water damage could occur. I'm in the process of replacing the tub and surround. In both cases, the drain plumbing had multiple elbow joints before it mated to the main drain pipes. In addition, they used an insert with a rear center drain in the front bathroom rather than put it on the right side with the rest of the plumbing. Fortunately, there are no structural obstacles preventing me from relocating the drain to the right side. It's quite aggravating to be forced to replace the inserts in my bathrooms within five years of the house being built!
My house in New Zealand was built around 1910 ' it's as solid as a rock ' the roof doesn't leak ' ornate solid timber everywhere ' it's been lightly modernized here and there ' but after all that time it's still a totally viable dwelling ' just one thing it doesn't have that modern houses do iis double glazed windows ' that would be good.
Everything he’s saying is on point! We have human beings living in squaller on the streets and no one cares. This would not be tolerated in my Grandparents generation! I’ve had to go to a number of funerals in recent years two of them being my parents and I was taken back by how people dressed. People wore jeans and T shirts. Girls were wearing inappropriate clothes. They looked like they were just hanging out or going clubbing. I was pissed. I thought this is my dad could you show a little more respect! This is how it is now. People just don’t care anymore.
When I was young and went to school I would see some classmates wearing torn pants, some with the knees gone and I felt very sorry for them = that's all they had and most were passed down from their older brothers. Now the rage is shredded blue jeans that people actually purchase new and pay a premium for the holes. Everything is twisted i.e., what was not good once is now great and what was once great is now not good (as in good vs. evil/ up vs. down). All by design.
It's not a question of caring. It's a question of enforcing laws. It used to be that vagrancy wasn't allowed. The police would poke you with their stick and tell you to move on. Those people were known as bums. Now the terminology is "homeless". I don't care about them. The crazy ones should be in a mental hospital, and the rest should be bussed to the outskirts of town and dropped off.
Dude you Literally took the words out of my heart my man! Today's world is pure shit. I am a 42 year old man who was raised by a father who was born in 1924 and raised me proper. Thank you for portraying life in America Joey! I’m an old geezer, 67 years old. My first job out of high school was track maintenance on the Burlington Northern Railroad, pounding spikes!!! I’ve always been in good physical condition but, as I got old, I’ve had trouble tying my shoe laces and found myself disgusting to look at. I decided to make a change and lost 80 lbs, down to 165. I work out every day punching a heavy bag and lifting weights. If I’m not extremely uncomfortable than it’s not a normal day. God bless your post to hopefully foster some change and motivation in people!
@barny666 no you are not correct you only have to go back to the 80s to see we all dressed a thousand times better than the scumbags walking about now .
I thought I was the only one that felt this way. I experienced some of that time with my grandparents. I remember the big classic cars, trains with a lounge car, and a smoking deck I never went into, elevators with music, Nordstrom’s with the piano, penny loafers, rotary phones, etc., the list goes on. I was raised by my grandparents till I was 5 and I would take the train every summer to go see them. I miss that time. 😢. Life was so laid back and cool.
Oh I remember when Nordstrom had the piano player! Wasn't sure if it was the standard. Went to one recently and it looked more like a Macy's. Macy's looked more like a Mervyn's. It was like everything got downgraded a step except for the prices, of course.
This was probably one of the most spot on videos I've seen in a long time. Correct about character of things built. The old cameras were works of art. What a life.
Someone who is saying EXACTLY what I have been thinking and feeling. My grandmother woke up every morning, got dressed before she made breakfast. She called that dress her “house dress”. It was worn around the house. She would put on a nicer dress to go to the grocery store. She then had even nicer dresses she saved for Sunday. My grandparents were farmers, so my granddad had a pick up truck and a Lincoln. He would always drive the Lincoln to take my grandmother to the grocery store, to go into town, and to Sunday service. I mean, and these were farmers. Now days, people don’t even present their best selves for their office jobs or while dating or dining at a nice restaurant. It is so disheartening.
I'm 20 and more than a year ago I started working at the weight scales of a landfill. I've seen tens of thousands of loads. On weekends I see the types of people you're talking about with pick up loads of cheaply made furniture and objects that should last years. Sometimes I see beautiful old objects that lasted for generations just being tossed out even though there's nothing wrong with them. Ive managed to save a few small pieces of furniture that I now value very much and it's nice to think how close they got to being crushed and buried in the landfill but now have a new home !
I had a coworker who literally looked like she just rolled out of bed. I felt that she didn't respect our clients enough to tidy herself up. People ask me all the time why I'm so "dressed up." For me, it's a matter of pride.
@@natalied662 And where did this person state that they worked alongside a nurse recently? This could’ve been 5-10+ years ago, don’t be ignorant. You can still make an effort to look decent in front of your fellow staff and patients, no matter how hard life is treating you.
I'm 78 and I try really hard to not think everything was so much better when I was growing up. Well, some things were not, and some things definitely were. Joey, I think you are really an old man preserved very well,.
There was someone telling a story of how when he was younger, he lived in a very ghetto neighborhood. but his mother told him, "Just because we live ghetto, doesn't mean we should look and act ghetto" and made her kids look proper before going out into public. dressed hair, clean clothing, good smelling breath, all that stuff. she was not at all one of those, "My life is shit so I have to act like shit" types of people. she was so much stronger and refused to let her current living condition bring her down. I wish the world had more women like her. I really hate walking through the store surrounded by people who look, act, and smell like shit. I remember being behind one person in the checkout line who had a shopping cart full of beer and energy drinks and smelt like she was rolling around in her own pee. it's only a matter of time until every city in America looks like Detroit.
Your post reminds me of my mom. My family didn't have much, we were poor and my parents were struggling to even pay the school fees which was very minimal back then. But i was not on the list of food asisstance etc because my teacher thought my family was doing well for the simple fact that i dressed nice as in tidy and clean. My mom made sure of that.
It's our disposable society. Everything is made with the expectation of tossing it out once you get something better or it breaks. I'm not too far up there in age and even when I was a child there were TV repair shops, Vacuum repair etc...Very few people understand what it is to put time, effort and dedication into something. Everything must be had now and the second you are tired of it, out it goes. Sadly, personal relationships and friendships seems to be treated this way as well. Disposable.
Amazing comment and true. I'm a collector of old vintage items, radio's, watches, gas lighters, tools...etc. I'm not interested in modern items entirely, going to antique shops is such an incredible experience.
The biggest rip off going is coffee pods! If you look at the weight, it's usually 1/3 of that of a package of coffee and twice as expensive. Plus, it's a waste of packaging.
Wow, it’s almost like planned obsolescence and right to repair and the deliberate sowing of these things throughout society is an issue that’s been tirelessly fought against and warned of for decades. Christ’s sake.
Society has gone to complete shit. I’m 72, and growing up in the 50-70s was a different world. A better world. I truly wish young people could go back in time for a week to experience it. You can have today
@AntiChrist unfortunately, I can’t disagree with you. I wish I could and say things will get better. But it’s a real shit show out there. But never give up.

Companies don’t want to make anything that lasts anymore because they want you to continue buying. I remember my parents bought one refrigerator and it lasted their entire lives. Now you’re lucky to get a couple years out of one, if that. I also remember dressing up when we took a flight anywhere.
My hobby is restoring old tube radios from the 1940's. Funny thing is that most of the tubes in the radios still work even after 80 some years. There are other parts that don't last like the electrolytic capacitors, the tend to dry out over time and can cause shorts, but for the most part I would say about 80% of the radio still functions they were just made that well.
I used to install and repair mobile radio communications equipment for business, industry and government. Before cellular, we were able to fix almost anything including FM radio walkie talkies. Digital everything ruined it all! Analog was far better because we could diagnose, repair and replace parts. Today, even with mountain top repeaters, whole sections are merely replaced, and are not field repairable! This is a very serious problem that few technicians today can appreciate. Personally, I can't stand today's cell phones!
Electrolytic caps never last well. Rubicon are good for some audio stuff. Some of the old caps are hard to come across. Although I know a guy who has boxes of old valve stashed away.
For as long as I can remember I've always thought that I was born in the wrong time. I've always had this deep sense of nostalgia. The music told a story, the movies were beautifully made, and the people looked like they wanted to be contributing members of society. It wasn't all moonlit roses, but I think that there was a sense of hope that is lacking in our time.
@@tias.6675 I understand what you mean. For the same reason I watch black and white movies like Basil Rathbone's Sherlock holmes, Rebecca , The Maltese Falcon, and also Jeremy Brett's Sherlock holmes(color). My parents were older when they had me (mid 40s and mid 30s). They came from the era where you didn’t leave the house without makeup on or a hat and button down shirt. I never left the house in pajamas and my daughter doesn’t either. It’s a matter of self-respect and how you present yourself to the world because first impressions are difficult to overcome. Whether it’s your behavior in public, how you treat other people, and how you take care of and present yourself. Humans have judgment ingrained in our brains to know what’s safe, not safe, etc. Its sad to say that that judgment has gotten tweaked
But what if you met the nicest, most respectable and hardworking person out in public one day but they just so happened to be wearing pyjamas? I think a person's actions and how they present themselves as a person is more important than how they dress because id rather get to know that person in pyjamas rather than someone who's smartly dressed but acts the opposite
I agree. First impressions and in general people judge you on how you look always. Imagine running into an old friend and your all put together vs you just look like you got out of bed. I get made fun of for always dressing well and putting my best foot forward when leaving the house. It doesn’t matter what they say I’m gonna have self respect and keep it alive.
@@catgoeskek I can’t see a respectable, hard working person leaving the house like that tbh. Respectable means: worthy of respect : ESTIMABLE 2 : decent or correct in character or behavior : PROPER 3a : fair in size or quantity a respectable amount b : moderately good : TOLERABLE 4 : fit to be seen : PRESENTABLE respectable clothes Respectful is how a person acts. Take my job for instance. I’m hired to care for your mom and show up at your house, so it’s in the privacy of your home, wearing sweats, a grubby T shirt, unbrushed teeth, and messy hair. What would your impression be when you opened the door?
@@SoCalRegisteredNurse I see your point and agree with the part about showing up at someones door in a professional context. In that sense, youd obviously want to be wearing the appropriate clothes for a job and any safety requirements like putting hair back etc. However, I think in a public setting, you can dress and look however you want. But yeah im only talking about appearance here and how it doesnt always reflect someones attitude/ability. Unless there are expectations such as in a job, then i dont think they have any obligation to put in the effort to look smart if theyre just out and about for their own personal reasons (eg. going for a walk, shopping etc.)
It's not about the way you dress, it's about how much you value yourself, thus it reflects on you and around you People have been more sophisticated because they gathered moral values as well as appreciation to what they had, especially after going through wars/famine etc etc now people get to have everything without putting forth any effort, which got them to take everything for granted which lead to ungratefulness. People are in constant look for happiness, which nowadays, they find in the stupidest things, although it's temporary but it keeps them going, until there's nothing left , and then they completely collapse
True. My parents suffered thirty years ago from a war in their early twenties. They learned a lot about the world and also they grew up in a society which didn't have much, but they were still very happy
Cars dont suck today, hour time today as engineering marvels, and a lot of people apreciate it. Buildings are tall and beautiful, people have access to better health care, tech, and safer everything. The diference is that everything today is shared by different people, in different walks of life, different countries. And yes people are more educated today and have more access to education, but in our day and age people are not pushed to impress others with education, people are just shameless and enjoy no boundaries, because thats what they perceived was wrong in the 20's and 40's.
Sometimes in high school I would randomly wear a dress shirt, tie, slacks, and dress shoes. It made me feel good, like I was treating myself with respect if that makes sense. The students always asked why I was "dressed up" while teachers and staff would encourage me to do it more. Hell, one kid even bullied me for it. Western society has degraded for such a long time that not going out in public with pajamas is considered "dressing up." Just something I noticed a while ago.
I wear the same outfit you described to college and everyone mocks me for it while they show up in their pajamas. America is done. It’s a failed society.
Yeshua Hamashiach is God in the flesh, the Son of God, the Word of God, and he died so that you may be presented blameless in the sight of the Father. And so you may inherit his kingdom. The LORD Yeshua Hamashiach is the only way to the Father and his kingdom. Repent of your sins accept him into your life as your LORD and Savior before it's too late, every day is not guaranteed. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me. May God bless you all.
I mean I wouldn’t go with a suit everyday, but I don’t wanna wear pijamad everyday either. Even just a pair of jeans and long sleeve shirt is pretty good
About a year and a half ago I decided to make a concerted effort to look nice every time I went out in the public. I mean a real effort, never to look sloppy when I enter a location or business. I can tell you from experience, people treat you a lot differently when you have decent, clean clothes on versus a pair of pajama bottoms. It’s been pretty easy for me because I moved to Florida, it’s hot as hell so a cute little sundress and a pair of sandals and I’m ready to go and look cute every time I leave my house.
Thanks for respecting yourself! I was riding my bike through my local university campus last week and saw zero sundresses on a perfect September day; just booty shorts, yoga tights, and pajamas. Beautiful young women in their prime, but they mostly look trashy and unkempt. It's really sad.
It's called self respect which people seem to lack these days, I also dress clean when ever I leave the house even to the corner supermarket, put on shoes clean socks, ironed shorts & T-shirt, flip flops are only for the house or visiting the beach, a collared shirt if going to the mall & clean yourself up wash your face or if sweaty have a quick shower. Diner it's always dress shoes, slacks & long sleeve shirt, tie only when it's formal. How are going to respect these grubs when they don't even respect them sleeves but they scream & shout demanding respect, adults throwing tantrums like little children it's pathetic but I see it more often these days, freaking sad society has been going down hill lately. Hopefully if more people dress decent & begin a trend maybe good thing can come back just like fashion trends, maybe I'm being too optimistic 😁
I’m only 25 years old, but there are times when I wish we can go back to that. Watching old footage of how life used to be compared to now is like watching a whole different world almost. People back then had class and pride in almost everything they did/made. Now, a lot people just don’t seem to care anymore and it shows in many aspects of our society.
I'm 72 and like the access of info to learn many wonderful things and how to do about anything from youtube university. Internet is fantastic, but it's your choice to be a slave of games and media or learning. What I don't like is the absurd satanic liberal morality now. Destruction of family and promotion of perversion. If you liked it back then, then be that type of person.
That was so sad. Yup, I remember having to wear white gloves to the ballet in NYC, I had a Leica (my pride and joy) I owned a 1972 navy blue Mustang convertible and I was home by midnight, or else! I SO miss pride, morality and the joy of walking in the woods unafraid.
I live in Italy, and here is the same situation. I thought I was the only one with this vision in mind. Thank you for this video, it makes me feel I'm not alone.
I go to Italy with some frequency, and the gap between expectation of Italian fashionability and the reality is rather disappointing. Well, they look comfortable, anyway 😄
Thank You - I was under the impression that it was just us Americans being belligerent. Italy (we are taught) is ALL class. I guess this is a worldwide problem -
yeah its like a damn zombie , they are stripped of all their dignity and humanity, like beasts, better to be alone than with idiots, though isolation is not good
I will never forget the day at my former job when the boss told us we had to attend a meeting and when I asked one of the managers what I should wear, he said to go with business casual. So I thought "okay, well, I have this grey blazer, white shirt, grey trousers and shoes. It's a bit much but it will look businesslike." (For context, I was a server in an upscale senior home complete with dress codes). So I arrived at the meeting (which was really casual) and I kid you not, the other workers (kids 14-18) looked at me strangely and asked "why are you so dressed up? Are you going on a date? Why are you wearing office clothes?" These kids were wearing torn jeans, tattered hoodies and beaten up sneakers. Seeing someone their age dressing up for a meeting was clearly foreign to them. I have literally seen people come in for interviews in nothing but torn jeans and stained shirts. The amount of times I've come across people who don't even practise basic hygiene is shocking. I get people asking me why I dress so nicely when I go out in vintage clothes and makeup (huge into fashion from the 60s, 70s and 80s). I always carry and present myself nicely, don't use bad language in public, try to limit my phone use, etc. I'm not a saint, but I have standards. And yet there's people older than me who don't even do that. They go out in pyjamas or even dirty clothes, they're loud and rude, they drop F bombs in public and I literally cannot understand how all of this became acceptable. I remember being shocked at how kids my age and younger acted growing up in the 2000s and 2010s but what I'm seeing in the 2020s makes all that look tame. Human decency is becoming a thing of the past. As someone born in 2000, I cannot express enough how out of touch with this generation I feel. And people wonder why I'm obsessed with time periods like the 80s. I know things weren't perfect back then, but I've had people who lived through those generations tell me things are so much worse now.
Sadly dressing and acting well will make those people think "oh look at this person, thinking they're better than everyone else" and resent you. Some will even give you a hard time and try to pick fights with you (like at my high school). In 2008 I used to go to a pizza place a lot for lunch because I had a vehicle and was able to go. Yet there was some girl that just had to make a note about it saying "why do you go there so much? You their wh*re or something?" For no freaking reason! Basically if you have things that others don't, even if it's class and an awareness to look nice, they'll have to take a hard look at themselves which they'll never do. So they'll just try and knock you down a notch, so it becomes exhausting to defend yourself. I think that's why it's just become more acceptable because people would rather not be engaged by jealous a-holes and draw attention to themselves. So they dress down like everyone else.
Keep on doing what you are. Some of us appreciate it. I'm an older man, late 50s, if I leave my house I am dressed in a button down shirt, jeans , or dress pants ( I work in an office), boots or shoes. Not sandals, flip flops, krocs etc. I wear a hat while outside, not inside. It will make your hair fall out if worn too much. Keep it up !

I could never understand how they could allow such an iconic city like Detroit fall into such a horribly neglected dump, it was the embodiement of American greatness. I live in France but even here we know what it was like. Gorgeous stone architecture gone and replaced with hollow wooden macmansions built with a nail gun and glue.

Took decades for American auto manufacturers to catch up, but sadly, way to late.
A colleague recently asked me why I dressed up at work when nobody else bothered. I replied, "the world doesn't need another adult in sweatpants and flip flops." Also, the hypocrisy of Joey B lecturing us adults on a lack of pride in our appearance while he's clothed like a teenager is not lost on me. Walk the walk, Joey.

the country as a whole is poorer, dumber and browner than its ever been. I live in Oregon and grew up in the 90s. I'm amazed at the decline of the local larger metro areas (Portland, salem, Eugene). traveling to small towns around here feels like a trip to the past, it's 90% white people and Legos and laundry soap aren't locked up in walmart and the like, among other things.
Wow, you get my vote! I’m almost 80 and have lived here in the U.K. through this gradual decline of ALL standards. The tragedy is that young people haven’t experienced anything other than today’s standards; they have no rule of thumb. This is all they know.
And who taught them that it’s ok? Their elders. I don’t dress in a slovenly way, nor does my husband and nor do my children. I’m 57 and my children late 20’s. It’s down to their parents and grand parents. I never see anyone where I live dressing poorly. Perhaps at my nearest Tesco’s I might if I stood and waited a while but it’s rare where I live. If you live in that kind of area perhaps you should discuss this with your friends and family members and the expected standards set by you might filter through the area. Then you might make a difference.
This is my favorite clip in Joeys show without a doubt... when I see old photos, old cars, anything from back then was unique it brings me some kind of up weighted lifted spirit that I can’t explain... Sometimes I want to travel back in time to see what things were like back then... and see how our ancestors who wore clothes that had character to them... and see them have like some kind of festival they celebrate and of course they drink beer and dance to the bagpipes and other old instruments back in the day...sometimes I look at those pictures with someone with an accordion and other instruments... I still ask “What did we do wrong as a society as of right now?” I mean when I see a picture of my Great Grandfather and his brother and other family members and friends I always put a smile on my face knowing that they had a hard life but good life... it wasn’t easy but whenever their hard work was done. Once a year they throw parties at their farm and other peoples farm to celebrate... I wish they were here to give me advice to keep my head on straight I still do but I’m just facilitated by the stories of what they’ve done and I thank them for their hard work and without them I wouldn’t be here...

Don't take them old videos and photos too serious in terms of representation. Seeing the footage of the concert with all the people clapping in unison, juxtaposed with the image of concertgoers simply holding their phones up to record… that really hit me. That felt really unsettling. We’re meant to be experiencing moments, and life as a whole with all our senses engaged, but we’re so far away from that now. Not all of us, of course, but it hurts to go outside and see so many beautiful or meaningful things that people miss because they’re staring at a screen that really just takes them out of their own bodies and out of their own lives to be honest. We used to be a society. Now we have social media instead. We’ve created a virtual society, and it sucks.
And most people spend more time interacting with others online or with their phones now than in person.

@firstlast8258 Yeah, they are wrong, clearly you are not spending time interacting online! LOL...

"Self RESPECT" has been systematically and methodically quashed out of society.

Nowadays there are plenty of products / services that are amazing in terms of craftsmanship, build quality etc… but again, mostly only for the happy few. Modern production techniques and new materials made (cheap) mass production possible, so now the less fortunate can also have some nice-ish things.

I've been saying for a few years that you can tell the decline of a society by how beautiful it's creations are. You can see the last 30 years that things just get simpler and uglier, no pride taken in it
Well, your comment really got to me. Because, everything beautiful around me is either 200 years old, or nature itself.
Same thing happened in Russia under communism. Everything turned gray, sour and ugly.
I disagree in a way. The exquisite cameras etc from the past were very expensive and only available to a few wealthy ppl. The modern mass produced cameras are available to the masses. You can still get amazing craftsmanship and beauty but you have to pay for it. Look at top end Swiss watches, super yachts, Lamborghini etc.

I wonder why not many people wear suits nowadays, except for the office crowd, of course. Probably has to do something with the societal change that made suits look like something undesirable outside of major events or certain workplace scenarios.
And if you don’t look poor you don’t feel poor.
Weird as this may sound, I kinda hate it when people assume you're rich because the way you dress, talk and carry yourself and when they find out that you aren't so, they just do a 180 and treat you with contempt...
I'd rather be treated crap first and then better than vice versa...

Sweet and true! Mine would say “always look your best because you never know who you’ll run into.”

But why??
I was 22 in 1990. I was as just finishing up an Army enlistment. The last raid in the Middle East was based on a big lie. From then on, I have been doing my own research and all of our human history dating back 3,000 years was a lie. That was the fall of man. It hasn’t changed much. We have good times and really bad times. Right now we’re in some bad times. Technocrats have been taking control of things and deception and propaganda from most media, politicians and rest of government is off the charts. Our technology cannot save us. There is s Chinese proverb that goes like this: When the wrong man uses the right means, the right means will work the wrong way.

My Dad and Granddad told me so many stories, which is why I embrace the past, but neglect the stuff in the present that is toxic and bad for us
What I have noticed is the decline of craftsmanship in houses.Mine was built in 1890,beautiful woodwork and floors, the complete design for cross breezes for cooling, the transom windows, the fantastic porches. Our kids have newer houses and when you shut the door it feels like the whole house will fall in.The older houses have the solid and built to last craftmanship. There was pride in their work, and thought in the design.
in the UK, a house built in 1890 is pretty new. I used to live in a house that was older than that, and that house wasn't considered particularly old.
I agree. I'm a real estate photographer and all these new houses i go in are so cheap, hallow, and cold

I work out every day punching a heavy bag and lifting weights. If I’m not extremely uncomfortable than it’s not a normal day. God bless your post to hopefully foster some change and motivation in people!

Yes but living expenses were much different back then.

I remember "house dresses" sold in the Rears and Sorebutts catalog.
Lucky. I would think that they would have taken it to goodwill or an antique shop where I could buy it🙂

Companies don’t want to make anything that lasts anymore because they want you to continue buying. I remember my parents bought one refrigerator and it lasted their entire lives. Now you’re lucky to get a couple years out of one, if that. I also remember dressing up when we took a flight anywhere.
It's called inbuilt obsolescence.

God this is so scarily accurate, so damn true. All the character in things has left, it’s so soulless.
Respectable means: worthy of respect : ESTIMABLE
2 : decent or correct in character or behavior : PROPER
3a : fair in size or quantity
a respectable amount
b : moderately good : TOLERABLE
4 : fit to be seen : PRESENTABLE
respectable clothes
Respectful is how a person acts.
It's not about the way you dress, it's about how much you value yourself, thus it reflects on you and around you
People have been more sophisticated because they gathered moral values as well as appreciation to what they had, especially after going through wars/famine etc etc
now people get to have everything without putting forth any effort, which got them to take everything for granted which lead to ungratefulness.
People are in constant look for happiness, which nowadays, they find in the stupidest things, although it's temporary but it keeps them going, until there's nothing left , and then they completely collapse
Wow, indeed it's true. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
Well said.

Buildings are tall and beautiful, people have access to better health care, tech, and safer everything.

@@tinkingtinking2134 My mum used to say the end of the world will come for her when she will die. She's long gone & I don't think the world will end all at once, but slowly in decay like now. The quality of the ppl has declined all the way down. Nobody has self respect or pride now. Problem with mobile smart phones is that bullying doesn't end in the school yard, it follows the victims home. Also ppl are at the beck & call of their employer's 24/7. That's so bad. Someone could be enjoying themselves at a wedding or birthday party, then they have to get up & go to work. They could be enjoying a day out on the weekend in town & are called away. It happened to me before. That is evil. Service everywhere is terrible. There's no respect for the customer anywhere. They hire the dumbest staff they can get who know NOTHING when asked where a certain product is. Decades ago you'd be given a demo on how to use the product you were buying. Now you buy a very expensive big ticket item in a box, no demo, and just bring it back if there's a problem. No delivery unless you want to pay $100.00 and you have to set it up yourself. No after sales service.
@@johanna5688 its funny how we remember what our mums told us, my daughter wouldn't remember what I told her yesterday she's so self absorbed in the ME generation, she's more than likely to remember something one of the Kardashians said or some stranger who's insulted her on Intagram. Its a strange time, to much information now, it gone from one extreme to the other where it's overload now, brain damage stuff. Im in Australia and the last 2 years have been awful, we were known as the lucky country but I don't feel so lucky at the moment, but I'm hopeful. The only good thing is the darkness is coming to the light and the truth is being revealed but it is at a cost, a huge cost, but I think the human race will come out of it if we can eventually cycle out of this madness and hold onto what's left of any dignity we have left. Im not on social media, I have a credit cards, I live within my means, I dress my age, and I respect my elders, so my kids see OLD SCHOOL with me and I know they can see it's better than what they are exposed to today.
@@tinkingtinking2134 I am in Australia too. I remember all too many things to when I was still in the cot and pram. I just remember everything. I could continue a topic I was discussing with someone back in kindergarten. I don't try to remember, it's just there. The good & bad. I lived in Indonesia and one thing I quickly noted is the locals couldn't remember what they had said 5 mins ago. I remember what I did in kindy, grade 1, etc. I can't always remember names of all the pupils though. What I don't like about today is that nobody is a friend. They all live and die alone. They always say "I keep to myself" which I think they must be raving loonies. When they die, the cockroaches eat them up before they're discovered. I tell them that's what will happen if they don't talk to anyone, and so they get eaten up. Seen it many times. Family members no longer talk to one another & abandon each other. Life is very harsh nowadays. Nobody forgives anyone. Females are not ladies anymore and many men are so angry they seem like psychos on steroids. It is a scary time we're living in. Also FB watch what everyone comments about and they threaten, like tyrants, to kick someone off the platform when they've said absolutely nothing wrong. It's very dictatorial online where no free speech is allowed. I hate these days.
This is the best video you ever done 👏👏👏👏👏
I'm so glad I grew up in the 80s, we were just out being kids having fun, mobile phones were even available until I was at college. Good times
We had mobile (car) phones in the 80s, but they were expensive and rare. Average people didn’t start carrying them until the late 90s.
The 80's were the best! 👍
Agree👏👏
I get so pissed when my work calls me when I'm at home to tell me the stuff I have to do the next day, dude I'm off the clock
Yeah born in the 70’s grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and this really upset me. Let’s wake ourselves up!.
I remember a neighbor who came home from work (a foreign concept these days), and walked every evening in our neighborhood while wearing his coat & tie. Very classy gentlemen. Now we go to Walmart and see ass cracks everywhere.
I used to love seeing my Dad walk home from work in his topcoat and hat. He looked so much better than the other "guys." (My parents were much older.)

I really hope there’s a counterrevolution to all the technology and social media one day. Because this path can’t be good.
Sad part is, who actually watches EVERYTHING they record? Nobody. I have hours of old footage I took on my old phones that I never watch.
@@PhilMante great point, Kenny!
Youre right but I'll add you have entitled milleniell zombies following each other right off a cliff pushing communism and the dead end in sight...
@@JediBunny On occasion there are things I catch with my phone that I can watch on repeat but 99% of what I used to take is stored away, never to be watched again. Things like kittens play wrestling at the shelter I can watch over & over, but hockey games I don't bother to bust out my phone anymore.
I agree. Most people im around have their faces stuffed into their phones lol Even during fun shit they have it out for some reason
He said exactly what I'm thinking and saying all the time ! 🙂👏
Couldn’t agree more, I’m 63, I’ve witnessed exactly what you described. Laziness is another affliction that permeates today.
We have boomers like you to blame. Ruined the economy and gave us crooked politician after crooked politician. Housing and food at an all time high (under Boomer leadership) and your generation has the nerve to call Millennials lazy. Your father’s were the great generation. You guys screwed it all up. Nice work. At least you got to live through the peak of the country before you threw it off a cliff
thats exactly what it is, everybody is overweight so they are unhealthy and because they are unhealthy, they become lazy and because they are lazy they have no time for nothing except fast and easy
nobody wants to be outside working on fixing a car or painting a fence
I agree with you about laziness. A lazy society will have lazy leaders. While he was president, Barack Obama admitted he was a lazy man. And it definitely shows in everything he does. He's not interested in anything resembling work.
Lazy, stupid, selfish assholes are the new norm. I'm embarrassed I live with it on a daily basis in a small town that is now full of morons who don't give one damn about pride in their lives or homes. The world is a stinkin dump ghetto
I am in my 50s, living in the UK, and it's the same here. When I was a kid in the 70s. my parents made sure we were all presentable, and polite when we went anywhere. God forbid if we were scruffy or ill mannered, and I still employ the same standards for myself today. I don't mean I wear a suit when I go out, but I always try to look like I've made an effort, I also respect the space of other people. Sadly, it's not replicated by a lot of society. I've always said I'm in the wrong decade
I was with a few friends walking down Main St where there’s lots of quaint shopping and mom and pop stores. I was wearing a dress with a matching big floppy hat. An old man (maybe in his 70’s or 80’s) stopped me and said, I just want to tell you you look very nice and I want to thank you for taking the time to dress so dignified because it’s not common anymore. I thanked him and told him he looked very nice, too.
I think the older generations have the hardest time watching society slowly deteriorate, the young ones were born into this way of life and view it as normal. I’m glad I could bring that gentleman a glimmer of hope that day.
@@aquaseahorselove3939 That's nice to hear. It's a shame older people didn't pass on more to their children and so forth. I never wear sweats unless I'm cleaning out the basement or something. Have worn a collared shirt and long pants almost every day from the time I was in high school and I was only ever made fun of for it :I
The uk is absolutely fucked mate. Since Covid everyone has become very isolated, argumentative,
Political and woke.
We're all in the 'wrong decade' because no human being is made to live in a state of blandness, ugliness, and decay like we do.
@@sonicgems Luckily we can change that, but people don't seem to want to. They complain like Joey B, appearing before the world slouched in a graphic t and windbreaker and in need of a shave
I agree. I went to a bicycle museum and was shocked, just to see pictures of the factory workers back in the day gathering around a single bicycle, trying to make it the best they could. Nothing is made with care anymore. A friend of mine got bikes from work for free because they had the smallest defect. Everything that slightly deviates is just discarded. The thing is they're not even worth fixing because they are low quality. We call this wealth and progress. Its actually poverty and regression
May I uplift your spirit with good bike news: recumbent are of high quality, built in either America or Europe. Brands like:
Azub, Czech republic.
HP Velotechnik, Germany.
ICE, UK.
Also the Dutch brand Workcycles is of high quality. Founded and ran by an American.
@@mardiffv.8775 thanks I am from Holland, we use to make great bikes like gazelle and batavus, the bikes lasted 60 years. Nowadays they last about 8 years which is not terrible but also not great
@@conqueringruler4283 yes, 3.6 Röntgen bikes.
@David Hall It would indeed be inefficient to correct quality issues in the same flow. However, high quality products justify time and attention in a separate flow after being discarded from the regular flow by quality control.
@David Hall True what you say, but his point is that that defective bike is just being thrown away and being repaired. That is a waste of potential good bike.
To celebrate 25 years as a teacher a few years ago I had a tailor make me a three-piece suit from five yards of English blue herringbone tweed. I wear it to work sometimes with a brown Fedora, brown brogues and an Irish blackthorn stick. I feel good in it, and people compliment me. All is not lost, Joey.
I love seeing old footage of people going to work and all the women are dressed beautifully and the men are wearing hats and I don't mean b'ball caps. Different standards .
Thank you. This is what I have been telling people for a while now. Here in the US now even going out to run errands has become a nightmare. If you live in a major American city like I do (Phoenix) you will see it. Peoples' attitudes are disgusting, rudeness is the rule, bad customer service, horrible driving where people will run you off the road and bully you, human trafficking, horrible degenerate music (think Cardi B and practically all contemporary rappers), obesity, rampant drug use, materialism, and just a general sense that nobody cares about anyone but themselves and very hard to make friends or any kind of human connection. America is a selfish society full of degenerate people. Sorry but it's true. There ARE good people but they are in the minority. What you see nowadays in your local grocery store or Target or Walmart is absolutely appalling.
Here in Australia is exactly the same.
I agree. I moved away, but every time I come back to the U.S. to visit I feel it pretty much from the time I step off the plane.
At least more people pretended to have class in the 90's and 2000's lol...
It's not just America, Canada is a dump and its citizens look like they hate themselves.
I used to live in Tucson moving was such a good decision for my mental health just walking down the street worrying about crack heads it gets old AF. I'm not saying there aren't crackheads where I live but Tucson is different and Phoenix...is on a whole other level
Some of us still have pride when we have worked hard all our lives! The table needs to turn back to those times and soon! This needs to be put on every TV station in America! Thanks Joey B
We do not have to turn back, but live in the present with some of the values of the past!
I'm a beggar on the streets of Auckland , nz , and I dress like a bum coz I can't afford proper clothes , sometimes kind ppl give me a label to wear , this Chinese lady gave me a Nike jacket and someone else gave me a pair of Adidas shoes , I try my best to take pride in my appearance with limited resources , just as living in an unclean home creates a negative energy , so does ppl moping about the grocery store in their pajama pants and slippers , Joey B is correct , ppl just don't take a meaningful pride much more
