So it was baddd to see that happen, luckily he was fine so we just had to laugh about it shortly after. Felt so shit for him though he’d bought the bike the day before (ex demo). @@bradensmith22what are you talking about ? He obviously cased the jump. The term comes from the motocross world(from hitting the case of your motor on the lip). So technically if your rear wheel doesn't smoothly clear the lip, it's a case.
I’ve been in the composite industry for 20 years and I and people I work with would not have a carbon bike. It’s just not worth it. A bike is going to get scratches and dings here and there. Once it has, the structure is compromised. Plus when it does break, getting impaled by it would be pretty nasty.

That's supposed to be the strongest part of a bike. Either the frame was already compromised or it was defective from the beginning. The Most common carbon failure i see is either the fork or the rear almost never the main mid frame.

@@sempi8159 @4everBikeCrew With the background of being an engineer I can tell you that it's all about the knowledge of building carbon fiber bikes or welded metal bikes. It is way easier to build a metal (aluminium/steel bike) than an carbon fiber bike. Look at F1 for example. The monocoque made out of carbon fiber resist impacts with >250 km/h. So I would rather look out for good companies which have good testing conditions for their frame than choosing a specific frame material. But I also would rather buy a metal bike than a crap constructed carbon fiber bike ;)

🙄🧐It's no wonder that this carbon frame snapped, just look at how your buddy landed there, front wheel landed on the landing ramp while the rear wheel landed on the flat, this created a huge build up of vibrations caused by the massive impact to which the carbon material can't deal with as it has a very low tensile force resistance. Carbon frames are best suited for pro-riders, regardless of being a sponsored rider or not and who for the most part have the skills to perfectly land the jumps they hit without exposing their carbon frames to such conditions where they may end up snapping them like we see here...👍🏻🇵🇹🇳🇱🙋🏻♂️.
I've had a carbon bike 2 years now I've replaced the rear end once they rebuilt me a stronger part as 3 of us had the same issue at the same time so was a manufacturing error haven't had any issues since get them built by people who know what they are doing with carbon
The bike breaking didint cause that crash come on. He cased that hard and would have gone down weather or not that bike broke. And all these people saying it's a defect, he slamed that thing insanely hard. It's not built for that, a metal frame probably would have broke or bent too.
I mean you're probably right, but there's no way of knowing there wasn't already a crack/defect there. They're known to break there too so it's definitely possible. Yeah, it would be pretty interesting to see how different frames/materials would handle the exact same crash. I'd guess in a lot of cases the back wheel would break before the frame.
I've had worse cases than that on aluminum and never worried about it. Carbon frames can't take the abuse, I get the science and all but real world applications show that aluminum is more durable and less fatigue resistant. No doubt it was a hard case but ill stick to aluminum for park/jump or downhill style courses.
Carbon and bicycles is a thing. If they fell down once, let's say on a small stone, its punctured. Even when it's almost nothing - it's something which weakens the whole structure. And if it breaks it's sharp as fuxx. I wouldn't want it on my bike. Except somebody sponsers my all the time with new parts. I real racing parts become x rayed to control the structure.. Keep it in mind.
I feel like when I see crashes between a motorcycle and a bicycle, its always so scary for the bicycle more as shit can just snap, fly off possibly hitting a vital point more likely than a motorcycle would.

This is why I don't jump and stick to gravel and XC. Dude cased the jump so hard that it's possible an aluminum frame would've broken as well. Glad he made it out unscathed but I wouldn't blame this failure on carbon specifically

Sorry for your bike mate and hope you’re ok. But: wouldn’t touch carbon with a barge pole. Unless you X-ray it no way of detecting damage. Aluminium or butted chromoly.
ive seen both alum and steel bikes break in the same location and cause very bad accidents. Usually a heat treating/annealing issue. but all this carbon bashing and ive seen them all break.

I bent a Kona scrap frame dirt jumping and they used to carry lifetime warranty so the shop I bought it from sent it off for me A couple welds had cracks When I picked up the new frame the shop owner told me to stop casing jumps. 😂
