Poor pensioner too, love boats & RUclips adventures, know nothing about algorithms but on oil rigs I could hand start lifeboat 3 cyl Lister air cooled engines😂 (I had been engineer in Merchant Navy)
Great video! This is then the only channel on RUclips where I don't have to increase the speed, thanks for that! I have shared with my Norwegian friends that you are coming, but they are few, so don't expect a royal welcome. Greetings from Sweden!
I must say that like you, I don’t speed up the video - and the only other channels viewed at regular speed are parkour channels. It would be criminal to not savor properly Alex’s witty comments!
Wick is a wonderful little town. I have fond memories of going there with my late father-in-law on his last holiday. None of his family were willing to go to Schottland with him one last time, so I took it up and we had a grand ole time. Who knew that being best friends with your father-in-law keeps your marriage alive, as right after he died, I gained an ex-wife. Yet Wick treated us nicely and we got VIP status in the Chinese Restaurant beyond the bridge from the harbour, where my companion spent lavishly on food and mostly drink, so I carried him over my shoulder up the hill to our B&B. The next day the whole kitchen staff cheered for us upon our cautious re-entry. Thanks for the great episode!
Good old Montrose. I used to get fish and chips there when visiting my Grandmother in Inverbervie. (She was originally from Skye and Gaelic was her first language - amazing lady.) I also had the hottest-spiced curry ever from Montrose - they said they made them hotter than anyone else and I thought it was just advertising silliness. I was wrong. I was actually dizzy, rather like spinning in the tide, but faster! So good to see this long episode.
Have you considered adding a extra pair of towing points to Allison and setting up a bridle? Do away with a single foint of failure and potentially improve towing performance?
According to the Wick Harbor Authority, as of June 16th, 2024, the Pleasure Craft Alan shows as being docked at the marina in Wick and AIS turned off on May 30th, 2024. Two week delay from shoot to post is pretty good. Thank you for your content Alex!!!
Bit worried about that bow line getting caught in your prop, should it fall off underway. Unless of course you remove it first. Great channel btw, gives a lot of pleasure.
I wish I could do more, but being partially disabled, Diabetic and other stuff I am therefore unemployed for 9 years, so I can't. You really deserve to be helped, but I can't do that... sorry. I do watch and do subscribe and do like every blog, that's my little help... Best of luck mate...
Orange seems an eminently sensible colour for your intentions ... 'Stuck up Yachties' are what kills the enjoyment for all. "Alan, and we, were heading offshore" Oh the excitement .. 😜
Have you checked the low pressure pump? I had a perkins of similar size and had done everything, still difficult to start. Changed low pressure pump and it fired up directly every time after that, even in winter like 0 degC without glowplug/heater.
Would love to give monthly when i get my income consistent, love your videos and been watching since last year if my memory serves me right. Also as for what RUclips has been doing as of late, from what i have heard its due to an update in its algorithm and notifications that has screwed with many channels, The RUclips tech team seam keen on ignoring this so i have no real answer or guess as to when it will be rectified. That aside though, i shall keep watching and enjoying watch you and Alan make progress, wish you the best and will be prayin for your safety upon the high seas as it were
Enjoy your videos and narration. If your engine starts on jump leads but not when using the installed system then it is likely a bad engine ground - check all your grounds.😀👍
Loving it......Keep going Alex ,would subscribe again if I could :( I also enjoy the longer videos- ten minutes or so long ones don't tend to stick in my mind- maybe because they don't feel like an 'event' like the longer ones do?
Enjoy all of your videos, you have far more patience than I would with the editing and voice overs. Alan is much more stable than I would have thought you did a great job making him sea worthy. Many happy miles to come I'm sure.
Although I subscribe to a few score channels, I do indeed find your travails to be a merry departure from normalcy. Your channel is truly entertaining, and I consider it “inside the wire”. One of a handful of my go to channels. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I have had some success with going over the permanent marker with a non permanent marker and then rubbing it off, or orange essence cuts through pretty well everything in a clean up. Thanks for the longer episode, I would be very sad if the channel goes belly up. We’re just getting to the really exciting stuff too. Best of Scottish luck what ever you decide about the channel.
I think that once you're out more on the water the viewership will increase. I do hope you keep up with the videos. I don't think the length needs to increase much. Erik Aanderaa and Harry Dwyer are kind of in your wheelhouse on RUclips and their channels seem to have benefitted from the storytelling that comes naturally from being on the water with a destination. I've really enjoyed seeing Alan on the move!
Just found your channel and subscribed, looking forward to watching your previous episodes. To help remove the permanent marker write over it with whiteboard marker, you should then be able to rub it off.
Always amazes me just how difficult it is to have rain show up on camera unless it's backlit. That heavy rain could have been mist or drizzle from the pictures.
Great video really enjoyed it. I’d love to spend some time onboard I’ve always wanted my own Allan. Be a great adventure in that part of the world. 👍🇦🇺
I love watching these videos, but 40m is a big investment. This trip would have really hit the spot on a 10m/day 1:1 with the trip. Then I get a little hit of Alan every day. Perfect. Thank you for sharing and good luck!
This wee guy has just subscribed and im told every little helps! I first saw your travels when you went passed my East Lothian coast in cluding the Farne islands. I wished you stopped off in Dunbar where you would've been very welcome, orange wouldn't be a problem, but green seams to upset some, i should know. Also the main line train is on your doorstep. I'm looking forward to your next trip already but unhappy you think ALAN is not coming back to Scotland or home . My dream is to motor my little boat up where you were but turn left onto canals for the west coast. However, I've been struggling to refit my boat on time for a variety of reasons. Thanks for taking the time n trouble allowing us to share your adventures.
@@AlexHibbertOriginals I'm sure you could get into the harbour no probs, line up the two posts on hill and come in between the large rocks , once Harbour entrance visible on left/port side . It was scary when I first did this as I knew nothing. Alex, There's a book EAST OF SCOTLAND sailing directions by Andy Carnduff and Forth yacht clubs association printed by Imray. This is a godsend showing every nook n cranny from Berwick up to Duncansby head with very clear instructions that an idiot like myself can understand. It's unbelievably fully informed. P.S. Dunbar actually has another two harbours inside the main Victoria harbour that dry out but great for shelter. Hopefully your engine wasn't deliberately damaged and all is going great for you. Regards Robert
Alan was towed to Lerwick today (Wednesday 19th) by the RNLI after (reportedly) suffering engine problems in the rather dangerous waters near Fair Isle. Hopefully that can be sorted out before Alex heads into even more perilous waters.
That's correct - Alan ejected coolant into the bilge after we passed Sumburgh Head. It's such a shame, as we'd made a mammoth Wick to Fair Isle trip two days before, and had timed the final part to coincide with a brief lull in the bad weather. The RNLI lifeboat team were great, and they came by afterwards to see the boat and have a chat. The episode of this leg will be to promote their volunteer work.
I would install a aluminum A frame mast and stabilizer poles with running stabilizers. Would really make er more comfortable in bigger sea state . Additionally at anchour it provides a great place for flopper stoppers . Comfort at sea
Interesting, today, a simple voyage or trip is called "Expediton" or "Adventure" When I was a kid, tese words were about a life threatening situation. Here in Brazil, we have the same trend😮. I think, I am getting old.😢
How about the boat is simply being moved to where expeditions begin? Also, my apologies if the video of 113 days on an ice sheet is not extreme enough.
You are in my top three channels i ALWAYS check, and you've entertained me so much already that you quality for a like at the BEGINNING of each video. Please never stop. P.s. If anyone is curious the other two automatic "likes" for me are @ghostown living And @frogleap studios
As long as you continue as you are making entertaining videos, We'll continue to watch. Once you've made it to the land of ice, What's going to happen next ?
I'm a regular viewer. BTW, I'm like a few folks and would send you a "quid or two" (or euros or dollars) through the post and would do it if you had a P.O. Box. Hate to see you have to quit making videos. I'm just a boring "Yank" who enjoys your adventures.
This is only a question and I appreciate the manual anchor pulling, but when you head further north will that pin and general process not be much more difficult if not impossible in freezing weather?
In my opinion longer videos are better than the shorter ones. Between 30-50 minutes are good because your videos are comparable to documentaries and that is the type of people that your videos attract, if you know what I mean... Perhaps try to avoid a lot of editing to cut down on workload. Thanks for all of your efforts, I do enjoy the videos.
I’m already missing the grinder cameo each episode, I will have to mourn before the north sea crossing where the grinder may be unlikely to make a cameo. I do have hope in the upcoming projects to finish Alan it will appear.
A 40min episode? What a treat 😊
my thought exactly, i actually didnt even finish and came back to it today and im happy to have more alan content :D :D :D
I'm just a poor pensioner, but I am subscribed and I understand that comments help with the algorithm. Good luck with your mission.
Likewise too (in mid 70s) and I also subscribed a while back after dropping by chance on an early "Alan" video and got hooked!

Great to see Alan tootle past the mouth of the Moray Firth. I waved as you chugged by 🏴⚓️

Good evening….from a rather wet and windy IOM 🇮🇲 👍😉👌🇮🇲
Have you considered adding a extra pair of towing points to Allison and setting up a bridle? Do away with a single foint of failure and potentially improve towing performance?
I suppose, in order to give you the algorithm bump, we should all be commenting along with our subscriptions.

Good to see you on the water. I'll donate when I can.
Outstanding episode! Hello from Texas!
Orange seems an eminently sensible colour for your intentions ... 'Stuck up Yachties' are what kills the enjoyment for all. "Alan, and we, were heading offshore" Oh the excitement .. 😜
Great to watch my cousin Murray in this video! I have no knowledge of sailing but found this really interesting. Will keep watching your journey!
He was great 👍
i think the format of the videos is about right, and i particularly like the "Alan Gopher" inserts
Prairie dog!
Talked to my nephew about you this weekend and I'll forward this to him now. Gonna do what I can.
Cheers
Great.
I am not in a position to join at the moment, but here is a comment to feed the algo!

I thought similar--classic case of a lack of fuel prime.
Keep the faith brother.
Love the channel! Comment in order to bump algorithm
Thanks for sharing Alex, great video
the lagoon in montrose is quite nice to sit by and relax when the tides up, shame Alan was out of puff when he got there
Thanks again friend.

Great episode! Cheering you on from Savannah, GA. I will sign up for something to support the channel. As you Brits say, keep calm and carry on!
Keep her going.
Enjoy your videos and narration. If your engine starts on jump leads but not when using the installed system then it is likely a bad engine ground - check all your grounds.😀👍
Subbed a while ago, but will continue to watch and recommend
Loving it......Keep going Alex ,would subscribe again if I could :(
I also enjoy the longer videos- ten minutes or so long ones don't tend to stick in my mind- maybe because they don't feel like an 'event' like the longer ones do?
Alan's cousin should be called 'Max' because it says 'Max - 8 People'
Not sure I'd want to set foot on max if he 8 people
Gutted you were where I stay in Peterhead and didn’t see the boat
Have you checked the 'health' of your batteries recently? Sounds like they have lost some of their cranking power, the starter was very lazy
Possibly loose alternator belt, crap batteries dodgy connection or not tight connections.
Hi Alex, stumbled across you by accident but watched this one all the way through nice one mate! Just Subbed!👍👏👏👏❤️
Welcome! And cheers.
excellent well done lads
Enjoy that hard work🎉
alan living his best life now, what a champion.
Enjoy the narration, thanks for the time taken. What you need is more regular vids to keep us happy , they don’t have to be feature films
I really do my best, but I have to make a living too! And occasionally sleep!
Dead pan narration great stuff.
Starboard bow (front starboard quarter)
Enjoy all of your videos, you have far more patience than I would with the editing and voice overs. Alan is much more stable than I would have thought you did a great job making him sea worthy. Many happy miles to come I'm sure.
RUclips gods! Everyone needs to see this!

great and funny video thanks for sharing

I did try that and no joy. Even acetone had a tough go of it. And thank you!
Nice to see him chugging his way up to the top of the world. 2x👍
Looks like Alan is bobbing around off the coast of Sanday going towards Shetland.
He certainly was. Cheers
great work :)
GOOD JOB .
Great to see Alan on its way finally!
Enjoyed watching you motor past my home coastline. Would love to see you add an anchor line chafe solution to the project list.
Chafe solution for what part?
I'm getting chafe sleeves for Alan's mooring lines.
Great episode, as an ex mariner who lives in the middle of England it was a real treat to watch, thanks Alex and Alan.😀
Cheers
The permanent marker can be removed easily by going over it with a non permanent marker, it should just wipe off, I was shown this recently.
Came here to say the same (to add to the algorithm also!)
I think that once you're out more on the water the viewership will increase. I do hope you keep up with the videos. I don't think the length needs to increase much. Agreed - I like their channels, although I don't want to homogenise with them.
Alans back on the move already!
Great video
och aye the noo alan
great boat, great video,
We'll take that. Thanks.
Just found your channel and subscribed, looking forward to watching your previous episodes. To help remove the permanent marker write over it with whiteboard marker, you should then be able to rub it off.
Tried that - and acetone (mostly) failed too.

Glad to support the channel. Love the videos ❤
Commenting for the algorithm
Great episode. Loved the length 😂😂 If only my Mrs said the same...
Comment for the algorithm!
😀
Great achievement,onwards and upwards 🎉
I enjoyed the longer episode
Cheers - will do them when I can.
Great video really enjoyed it. I’d love to spend some time onboard I’ve always wanted my own Allan. Be a great adventure in that part of the world. 👍🇦🇺
Faux nonchalance is one of Alan's strong suits.

Cool to see Magne Viking, the black and yellow ship featured in the movie TENET

BRILLIANT AND APPRECIATED

Hope to see more.

I considered those style stabs, but the structural work on the upper shell would be huge. The upper hull is much thinner than the lower half.
Very much enjoy your videos.... I have shared this one to my very limited number of FB friends.... but hey.... maybe you will get a few more :-)

Appreciated, thanks. Although, do think of the labour needed to film, edit and produce a weekly 30+min video! It's just me....

ask people to like and comment to boost interaction with the videos

Awesome thank, what about toilet business on the boat never mentioned on the video:)
I'll (gently) broach that topic soon. Yes, it's been an age since the original toilet install video.
I was born in wick 😂
