This song came on the radio, when my father was driving home from work. He is a mans man, meat and potatoes kind of guy who has worked his whole life. It made him cry.
I first listened to this when my wife was pregnant and I cried thinking about the baby to come. Then I listened to it after my daughter was born and I cried with gratitude for being in the early days. Then I listened to it when the baby days were gone and the toddler days were upon us. Now my kids are 5 and 8. Parenthood just keeps getting better, like this song.
I Remember that 2am. feeding and changing, did not like it much at the time. I am in my 70s now, and i realize how lucky i was. I Have 3 beautiful healthy children today in their 3os. I Haven't won the lottery yet, but then, maybe i have,
heard this on CBC driving home from errands, baby finally asleep in the back and mommy and daddy a little sleep deprived. Well tears rolled down both our cheeks. Thanks for writing an honest, straight and simple and even funny song about parent life.
As a father to a 5 month old baby who lives in a different country this made me cry. Every day without my wife and baby breaks my heart. Thank you for this beautiful song
This song is honestly the most magical emotional song I could ever need. It says a million things and any parent understands what you aare singing about- This song gets me EVERY TIME and I am so grateful you created it! The video is just beautiful too THANK YOU!
Ah...just having that discussion with a younger mom and her two. As of last week, no more teenagers home... I have two very polite adult squatters now. I no longer think my problems would be solved with a time machine and couple of condoms, lol! They grow on you, spreading their strong young roots throughout your shit and your personhood. I got through it...now I miss it. Wished their Mom could've seen it.
Thank you for this song. I hear it for the first time on the radio during a rough day... and it made me laugh until I cried (the good kind of cathartic cry). Its both poignantly funny and beautiful.
Heard this on CBC today. Can totally relate having twin grandsons of our own. As we relish our time with them, realizing how precious these times are and never being able to turn the clock around. New parents...........when times seem endlessly hectic........tell yourself "this is only temporary".
I heard this today on CBC I will soon be a new father and I'm really looking forward to listening to this record as the soundtrack as the beginning of a new experience in my life with my wife and our new child thank you for writing such beautiful music

Saw you in Pittsburgh a few days ago, it was awesome. Thanks for your great music. Pete Seeger should be proud, despite the gasoline that you burn while driving around making folks happy.
