Testing my new Microtome

Microtomes are used to make thin cuts for microscopy specimens. I now have a new microtome and want to do some cuts through some plant leaves. How good does it work?

I would try mounting the specimen in a wax plug but I guess that would also be messy,but it might hold more steady. Also it might ruin the specimen structure.

Thingiverse has a 3d file for a microtome slicer.
Im putting mine together right now.
Its horizontal instead of vertical

It would be interesting to always have the magnification of the samples so we can do the same easily.

I love sharp blades and I love looking at the edges of straight razors under magnification.. question.. my 2 highest magnification objective lenses will not really show anything. One is oil and the other is not. Why won't they work do you think?

The stronger the lens the higher the light source needs to be. It might be because the light isn't strong enough.

this microtomes are toys, as well you can cut by hand. The art of microtomy is not cutting but sharpening your knife. A diamond knife is the best. Sharpenig this knife will cost you about 1000 euros. So forget what is told here

@@lotharmayring6063 dafür ist der Kanal zu gut. Aber dein Zeug zu lesen unter jedem Video nur gemecker ist es mir mal wert gewesen das auch zu äußern. Meckern geht ja immer leicht, selber besser machen ist da schon schwieriger. Verstehe ich schon

@@sannee3715 na dann schau dir mal den Kanal Microkosmos an oder verschiedene Mikroskopieforen, das sind gute Mikroskopie-Kanaele. Meiner Meinung nach ist microbehunter der schlechteste Mikroskopiekanal. Der will auch nur seine Mikroskope verkaufen und macht Werbung fuer seine Marken. Mir macht es einfach Spass auf die Fehler die der sogenannte Mikroskopieprofessor mit seinem deutsch-englisch macht hinzuweisen, der glaubt ja so schlau zu sein. Und nur aus negativen Kommentaren wird er was lernen, so hoffe ich. Aber er antwortet leider kaum
