I feel like Jon came across with a rhetoric that was so rock solid that Republicans had to ignore it because there was no disputing it. The rest have more emotion employed, which Republicans love to pretend to be above (while they rage).
You could go back decades, maybe centuries, and say the same thing. The difference nowadays is, there's actually video footage of the atrocities as they're happening, that everyone can watch online (if not always on TV)...and I think that can & should greatly amplify the general public's response--and hopefully by extension, the government's response--to the atrocities.
GEORGE FLOYD KILLED HIMSELF. THERE WAS ZERO RACISM INVOLVED IN HIS DEATH. THE ONLY RACISM IS THAT RACISTS ARE MAKING IT AN ISSUE OF RACE AFTER HE DIED. GEORGE FLOYD LEAD A LIFE OF CRIME. HE SPENT FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR BREAKING INTO A PREGNANT WOMAN'S HOUSE, BEATING HER WITH HIS PISTOL, AND ROBBING HER AT GUNPOINT. HE HAD MANY OTHER THEFT AND DRUG OFFENSES ON HIS RAP SHEET AS WELL. AND BY CHOOSING CRIME HE LEFT A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG DAUGHTER TO GROW UP WITHOUT A FATHER, AS WELL AS FOUR OTHER CHILDREN GEORGE FLOYD WAS STONED ON METH AND OPIOIDS WHEN HE TRIED TO STEAL CIGARETTES AND RESISTED ARREST, AND THE POLICE FOLLOWED THE BOOK ON SUBDUING AN AGGRESSIVE RESISTING DRUG CRAZED CRIMINAL. THERE WAS NO WAY THEY COULD KNOW HE HAD THE CORONA VIRUS, NOR SHOULD THAT EVEN BE AN ISSUE. IT IS A HUGE MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE AND RACISM THAT THE POLICE ARE BEING CHARGED FOR DOING THEIR JOB TO KEEP SOCIETY FREE OF HARD CORE CRIMINALS CAUGHT IN THE ACT OF COMMITTING CRIME. GEORGE FLOYD BROUGHT HIS DEATH ON HIMSELF. THAT RACISTS ARE MAKING HIS DEATH AN ISSUE OF RACE IS THE ONLY RACISM HERE. THESE RACISTS ARE GOING TO BECOME EVEN MORE AGGRESSIVE AND VIOLENT IN THE FUTURE, A BLACK POLICE OFFICER WAS KILLED BY THEM IN SAINT LOUIS THREE DAYS AGO, AMONG OTHER POLICE OFFICERS SHOT AND INNOCENT PEOPLE KILLED. WE WILL END THIS BY USING THE MILITARY, TRAGICALLY. IT WILL COME TO THAT IN THE FUTURE, AND YOU KNOW IT. WE WILL NOT HAVE A NATION WITHOUT LAWS AND SECURITY GUARANTEEING THE RIGHTS OF OUR CITIZENS, BLACK AND WHITE. THE MILITARY WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO STOP THIS CHAOS AND MURDER IN OUR STREETS.
Yeah... you know, even if you consider that some of theses deaths had to do with asthma or other diseases (which I doubt), maybe the police should consider that they don’t know the health status of the people they are approaching and that they should use safer techniques What I mean is that I know it’s just a bullshit excuse, but it’s a very poor one, and if you think about it, the conclusion should be that the police should be even more careful

It has happened all this time. I'm glad people are now catching up on the issue but I'm wondering why it hasn't been a problem for most white people when the incident doesn't cause nationwide protests.
And some people wonder why these riots are so virulent 6 years later. The anger continues to build every day. It’s a wonder we haven’t had riots every week in the last 6 years. Or the last 40.
usually i get a lot of joy from these videos no matter how dire the subject, but just seeing the video of the poor guy being jumped on and chocked while he had his hands up. That makes me feel sad and depressed. There was no need for him to die, none at all, and whoever defends those officers who did that has zero sense of principal or shame
Eric Garner was well considered in the neighborhood. Even among local shopkeepers. He was big so he would stop fights and stuff. That's actually how he died. He tried to stop a fight. And when the officers targeted him instead of the fighters (after a history of targeting him) frustrated he snapped back at them and tried to walk away. And then they killed him. He did sell bootleg cigarettes. After being punished for a failed crime he did in a group when he was a teen he wasn't really all that employable. He was 43 at the time. And still punished for what he did as a teen.

@MaybeNextTime I have a strong feeling that you like others have been posting the statistics that implying more white people are killed even though those don't take into account proportions and actually black people are 3x more likely to die
Nah, what's disgusting is how much people have ignored this. Police brutality has been a thing for decades, but I reckon that the only reason people are so pissed now is because of everything else that has been hammering our social conscience -- Coronavirus, the daily Democrat/Republican shit, all of Trump's "wisdom", mass shootings, the growing wealth disparity, etc. If things were going good in our country, people would likely also forget about George Floyd pretty quickly.
I actually think the system is working much better now. None of these cops were charged in 2014 and now the cop who killed George Floyd has a second degree murder charge and the cops that were with him are charged as well. Much, much more needs to be done but it's good to see some progress!
Keith Olsen that happened because the protests kept going and spread nationwide. if people weren’t sick of the system, things would go on working just the same.
@@exoscalmfan191 Well Eric Garner's brutal murder was also video taped, went viral, picked up by media outlets, his murderers went free. Now all of the cops who attacked George Floyd were fired within hours of the incident, after it went viral but before the riots. Again, we've got a long way to go but if we're not happy about this progress we'll never be happy about anything.
@Blue Calla Oh I definitely agree, that's actually my point. First, the justice system was incredibly quick like you said. The officer was charged before most protests even started. Second, out outrage has actually changed things and upgraded it from 3rd degree to second degree. Neither of these have happened in the past, so that shows progress. I'm not saying the system works well, just better than it has in the past, especially when compared to Eric Garners case.
It's not insane unfortunately, but quite predictable. Did America make any progress in terms of racism and police violence since 2015 and since electing Trump?
Will Pack dismantle the system and rebuild it for the people. The system in place is to help the capitalists and not the masses. It’s time for them to give back now
The only thing that changed is a pandemic that forced people to stay inside and finally, finally, reflect and realize that things like this shouldn't be tolerated.
@Will Pack Not just then. Watch Hasan Minaj's take on this, it's really interesting. Voting is important on a local level, too. You get to elect much more than your president - police officials, too.
@Will Pack I want people to vote too, but for who? Trump? Hell no! Biden, with his racist crime bill, racist wars, etc? Hell no, again! It's time for people to stop saying "third parties can't win" and make it happen. According to the Gallup Poll, a MAJORITY of Americans want a new party, but DON'T KNOW we HAVE ONE! (Thanks, corporate media!) So spread the word, tell friends to check out www.gp.org and build a party that's based on progressive movements, instead of corporations. ANYONE who doesn't understand this yet are now (almost) equally as much to blame as all these corrupt politicians and media people. By this point, they just can't claim to have been blindsighted. They too know what they're doing. It's way too flagrant and obivious at this point, and they too have no excuse what so ever. They WANT the discrimination, fear mongering and hate to continue. They don't want the world to become a better and just place for everyone. They want POC to have no voice, no women to have their rightful autonamy rights and choice over their own body, they just want (and need) to push everyone who does not agree with them to have no (equal) rights. They want discrimination, white supremacy and hate to keep thriving. They want everyone who's not them to have it bad af.
There's simply no way to excuse any of them anymore. They *all* know what they're doing, and they don't even try to hide it anymore. It's disgusting, point blank.
It's too disgusting for me to even come up with anything more to say. It's just disgusting. Smdh. I just hope karma kicks in before it's too late.
As much as I love John Oliver, Trevor Noah, Seth Meyers, etc.... there is just no replacing Jon Stewart. He was the master, the king, the OG, and I miss him sooooo much😞
I feel like Jon came across with a rhetoric that was so rock solid that Republicans had to ignore it because there was no disputing it. The rest have more emotion employed, which Republicans love to pretend to be above (while they rage).

It's genuinely horrifying we're still talking about these exact same issues in 2020 and nothing has changed.
5 years later... just goes to show how long overdue this uprising has been.
It's you white women that are the problem
400 years...
AND BY CHOOSING CRIME HE LEFT A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG DAUGHTER TO GROW UP WITHOUT A FATHER, AS WELL AS FOUR OTHER CHILDREN
GEORGE FLOYD WAS STONED ON METH AND OPIOIDS WHEN HE TRIED TO STEAL CIGARETTES AND RESISTED ARREST, AND THE POLICE FOLLOWED THE BOOK ON SUBDUING AN AGGRESSIVE RESISTING DRUG CRAZED CRIMINAL.

Yeah... you know, even if you consider that some of theses deaths had to do with asthma or other diseases (which I doubt), maybe the police should consider that they don’t know the health status of the people they are approaching and that they should use safer techniques
What I mean is that I know it’s just a bullshit excuse, but it’s a very poor one, and if you think about it, the conclusion should be that the police should be even more careful

Its disgusting how nothing has changed, and that this is getting recommended again due to the current situation.
