He was THE romantic voice of my youth. Those were great days. HES still performing to sold out audiences at the age of 83. Aah, life is so brief. I can’t bear the thought of loosing him. Lord Have Mercy. What a voice. What a beautiful man.

I have been a fan since I was 10 years old, in 1958. A voice smooth as silk, and unlike many of the so-called vocalists of today, you can understand EVERY word!
And no acoustics to enhance a voice that cant sing. When you were 10 I was 11 and my mother and i were great fans too……. weren’t we lucky?
@@issy3662 Indeed - we were extremely fortunate to have had reall vocalists who could sing acapella , not autotune or voice synthesizers needed to cover up the fact that they can't really carry a tune like so many today.
My hubby has an extensive record collection dating back to cylinders, and the devices that play all of them. He says he quit collecting the music that came out after the 80;s - says it is mostly junk, with only a few gems still to be found.

@@issy3662 - have you watched the concert he did earlier this year? 82 and his voice is still fantastic. He may not be able to reach the highest notes that he could in his prime, but still head and shoulders over most of his generation. His gait is slower and has a bit of a limp, but then so does my 80 year old husband.

First song I listened from the great and only was GINA, being a kid in a humble town of my beloved Honduras I got mesmerized listening his voice without even knowing the lyrics I felt in love , and when I moved to the States the first thing I did was going to a concert at the Greek Amphitheater in LA , that was 40 years ago. I'm a fan of Mr. Mathis's and have been since a kid but I've always felt that he was not given the amount of attention and acknowledgment he's deserved through the years? He definitely has a following and a huge fan base but I think the people from the last 25 or 30 years have missed out on pure talent and a voice that after 50 years still sounds like his... Thanks for everything Mr. Mathis, you've made many people happy and brought a lot of joy and memories to their lives.

You know, I have introduced Nat King Cole to some very young people and they loved it. Tony Bennett has some very young people as fans. Younger people would love more good singing if they give it a chance.
John Mathis has definitely not received the proper amount of acknowledgment she deserves. You hear Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, etc. all the time but very rarely do you hear John Mathis. Some of us tried to get him Kennedy Center award but they just don’t do it. I’m afraid Johnny Mathis will have to pass away before he’s appreciated the way he should be. I know there are lots and lots of people in all over the world who love you John. This is why they sell at your concerts and have all kinds of comments to your talents. I love you very much and always will.
Johnny came out couple of years ago and told the world that he was a homosexual. However I don't feel that his music should suffer because of his lifestyle.

Johnny looks fairly young here. He will be 88 on Sept 30, 2023. He still sounds wonderful at 87. Amazing man. Many years ago i was blessed to spend 3 days with him at my employers estate. Hes a lovely person. He was an extremely great athlete in his youth. He could have gone to the Olympics, but chose to sing. Good choice. Arent we all glad he did?

I just saw John and his Christmas Concert in Chicago at The Rosemont (2023) for the second time (2019). I've loved his music since I was 10 or 11. Finally got to meet him afterwards. I gotta tell you, if you've never seen him in person, add it to your bucket list.
His songbook not only includes the Christmas songbook, but the Great American Songbook and Brazillian favorites as well.
His twenty-five piece orchestra is fantastic and when John does "Brazil", the percussion and the Brass sections create an excitment as the music builds and you'll just want to get up and move things you forgot you had.😉

Misty was my Mom & Dad's song & when my Dad died of Lung Cancer & mama found out she entered Dad's hospital room and cried loudly at first and she prayed & when she was done praying and she was crying in my Dad's lap & she lift her head up and started to sing Misty. There wasn't a dry eye in the house! God bless you Mr. Mathis! I will always be beholding to you for making my parents so happy with your song. You've always felt like part of the family. I remember watching this program. Johnny Mathis has been my very favorite singer since 1958. His voice is incredible. I saw him Pittsburgh, I believe at Heinz Hall, and he was fantastic.

One day I was walking the upper track at Trinity University in San Antonio. I went inside Laurie Auditorium for water. There was a performance going on. I could hear an orchestra behind the thick wooden doors. I wondered what it might be. I opened one of the doors and to my amazement, there was Johnny Mathis singing in the spotlight, with an orchestra on the stage behind him. I could not believe it. I sat down and listened for an entire hour.

An absolute Gem of a voice and still going at near 90
This voice has been my favorite since 1958. I also loved Nat King Cole and was in the audience in Dec 1964 in San Carlos for what turned out to be his last concert which he could not finish due to throat cancer. He returned to LA and died FEB 15 1965. Johnny was so sad as he admired Cole always. Johnny will be 88 on Sept 30 as he was born same year as I was 1935. I saw him in concert in a vineyard in Los Gatos, Calif. He asked where we had been hiding this wonderful location. I too saw this program. Thank you for bringing it to us again.
There's no one like Johnny, my mother and I used to dance with his songs in the living room, just her and I, what a wonderful memory he gave me and mom.

I just lucked upon this concert, and it's been so wonderful. I fell in love with Johnny and my first boyfriend when we were 13 years old while we slow danced to his songs. There will never be another voice so special, nor so many beautiful songs. Such an amazing treasure. ❤❤
I too grew up listening to Johnny Mathis, these were the days when music was at it’s best! And pretty much all music. Rock and Roll, Soul music, folk rock and western music!! There will, I doubt, never be music like this again!! Johnny M. Was one of a kind!!

How many people today have their worn out albums of Johnny Mathis that they played over and over again? Once you hear him you have to hear more. So smooth with perfection.
I remember one reviewer's description (about 50 years ago) of Johnny's singing as sounding like taught silk. His singing has always been something very special.
I agree. But I do have to wonder if beneath the smile, he's sick to death of singing the same songs over and over and over and over.......?

A singer's perspective may be different but, in my experience, playing any tune that produces a good reaction from the audience is energizing and stimulating. A positive reaction from an audience gives you energy. Sometimes we see real sweat dripping from a performer's face. It's real but they keep performing.

What wonderful parents you had, Johnny. I have all your albums, since my oldest brother's gave me as a child, I still have them all. My brother passed away on Oct. 14, 2021 married for 64 years. Gratefully, he passed away in my arms in his own home.

I dearly love this man. Beautiful voice. I was 14 when I first heard him. Now its 60yrs later and still listening and loving him. No other like him.
One of my favorites!!!! I got to meet him at the grocery store in California where I was a cashier at the register when he came through !!! 😂somewhere in Beverly Hills back in the early 90’ s. He was so pleasant and just wonderful! I told him how I love all his music so much 🎶

It’s amazing no teleprompters for the words! My husband and my favorite singer from way back in the sixties for us. We been married 53 yrs. And we have such fond memories of just sitting and holding each other and listening to Johnny.

Discovered JM in 1970 - A Certain Smile - been hooked on his incredible voice ever since! Never been another voice like his❤️. Saw him live in South Africa, in USA and flew to London to see him - so excited to find this utube! Moved to Aussie WITH my huge collection of vinyl, cassette tapes and cds!
