I love the new console! Every detail, the functionality is excellent and the appearance is even better. The only problem I see is the controller. I've had this console since Christmas and it's already broken. But overall I rate it 8/10

the older model has actually gone up in price, atleast from what I've seen, but Sony is directly selling the slim for $499. that's the better route to go if you haven't bought one.
Hi! I just received my Slim and operate it horizontally. If you need/want to operate it vertically, please be aware that there are ventilation holes (inlets, I suppose) on the bottom side. So if you place it vertically on a flat surface without the stand, I could imagine that this will have an affect on ventilation, but I cannot say that for sure, as I don't have the stand. It looks like the stand elevates the console just a bit to allow for proper airflow... Speaking from a simple mechanical/balance standpoint (pun 100% intended 😉), I would say it doesn't need the stand for operating it vertically, if it's not in an exposed place, where one could knock it over easily. I got the new model anyways (not calling it slim) since I didn’t have my old model anymore. Personally i didn’t like how it looked but then it grew on me and having it in person just makes it even better for me now.

Only a little bit cheaper and same chip (no less nanometres) as before. So very minor upgrade.
