Thank you lady for giving the recipe and explaining everything with excellent detail! 😀
What a beautiful color!
Very interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
This was extremely helpful in my quest to learn about how to mix my own glazes.... which can be a little daunting (especially for us newbies). Thanks Ann, you are a great teacher!!! 🤩
Glad it was helpful!
I have only made a couple of thing still really new to the hobby. I have been wanting to find a good diy glaze. I like how informative she is and the color of this glaze. One of the better videos I have found so far. Rather then mixing it dry. After putting all the ingredients in the bucket together. Couldn't she just add some water before mixing. That way it would keep down the dust though?
Wow. Thanks you so much for sharing ❤
Thank you so much for this video.
You are so welcome!
Wonderful
bravo , thanks for sharing
You must have so much patience and I have so much respect for you and all those crafters who make these glazes but I would not be able to do all this 😂
Superb
Thanks so much 🙏
I have been wanting to try my hand at glaze making - this is inspiring!
Hi Joan. I am glad it is inspiring for you Joan. There are a lot of really good books that go into a lot more detail about how glazes work. We have the John Britt one listed above and I like the John Hesselberth and Ron Roy book Mastering Cone 5 Glazes too. Thanks for watching!!!
I have the same pink respirator 💕😂Your videos just make me smile Ann💕Kudos to your videographer!
please make a video on clear glaze
Nice and easy introduction to glaze making , very helpful 😊
Thanks so much! I am glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!!!
Thanks
Oh btw I make up a lot of glazes for two different studios i work in .. one here in Canada and one in Arizona (during non covid times lol) and the rule of thumb is around 11 oz of water per lbs or. 454 gms.... Normally start with 8oz per pounds and slowly add till the consistency is right...again as Anne has said depending upon all the ingredients you may have to go up as much as 12 oz (liquid) of water...
Great tip Julia!! Thanks for the visual!!!
How would you make the glaze color a bit darker? I'm going for that deep emerald 1920s subway tile color. This style is from back when they would put chandeliers in the restroom! I really miss that kind of style and want to recreate a 1920s restroom.
This is great -- What cone do you fire this glaze at? Is this only a brush on glaze or can it be used as a dipping glaze. Thank you for sharing
Hi Spin, I fired my pieces to cone 5. I usually use this glaze as an accent glaze over another one of my glazes, but I believe. you could apply it by brushing, dipping or spraying. It is a really nice rich glaze but it can be a bit runny when thick.
What is next step after applying Glaze with brush? How final came out?
ho to keep color while qplying so you see the final color during using like cuerda seca
Tk u for this great video as I am thinking of starting to make my own glaze… Question: i tought that making your glaze could only be apply by dipping-pouring?🤔 so, I can also apply by brushing?🤩 your friend from Quebec 🇨🇦
Brush it, spray it, spill it - any way you want it! Enjoy!
Love the glaze. What temperature was it fired to?
Cone 5
Is there a resource where I can find what materials have what effect on a glaze. I'm very new to making new glazes and don't really know where to start. I don't know what materials do what or how they each affect the glaze. I wondered if there was a "basic" couple of materials i could get that are commonly used and what not. Anything helps!
check out glazy.org
Hello! I’m trying to make glaze out of oyster shells in order to replace silica (quartz and other stuff) since it causes silicosis. It’s part of my 10th grade thesis and I know nothing about pottery. Would it be alright if you give me instructions on how to make one?
Its an interesting hypothesis. Not sure how that might work. I think you are better off consulting someone in the medical profession to determine if shell material (calcium?) would not be as harmful. Good luck!
Is the bentonite to stop the glaze settling? And also what temp did you fire to .. Cone 5 or 6 or high temp at 10? I like the look of this glaze.. also is it food safe? Thanks for taking the time to answer... I have been following you for a while and love the simplicity of your teaching methods... so thanks again...
HI Julia. You are right. Bentonite is a material that helps keep the other materials suspended. A lot of recipes include a little bit of the bentonite. Sorry for not including how I fired this glaze. I fired it to a fast cone 5. As far as food safety of the glaze. I am one of those potters who only uses a white liner glaze without any heavy metals on my pots on areas where there will be food and drink just so I dont have to worry about leaching. There is copper in this recipe and I doubt there is enough for any concern, but as I have not sent it to a lab to be tested so I cant recommend it for food safety or not. sorry. Thanks for the kind words Julia. Jim and I try to keep the videos right to the chase without a lot of over explaining.
I found nearly all the materials except for SİLİCA. Is this Sio2, which is nearly 10-15 dollars per GRAM!!!
I really liked the effects and it was going to be my first glaze making venture. I am in a village in Turkey.
what is silica?
@@selmakaplan1053 silica is indeed silicon dioxide. It is a super cheap ingredient.
Hi Ann, I love your content, it's really helpful and sometimes funny. I really enjoy watching it! Thanks for that ❤. I have a question: is there something among the ingredients that serves as a gum solution to enhance applying and keeping the glaze firm? If not, is it ok to add Amaco gum solution? Have you tried it?
I just read: " I fired it to a fast cone 5". I asked because I have some glaze recipes and I am testing them - all of them after firing came white and opaque! I need to know what is wrong ... :( - Thanks!
Hello i have a question do you heat it after applying glaze or let it sit?
let it sit for 24 hours then fire it to cone 5 or 6 in my case. Thanks.
I have a question. Some of my pieces warp and blister after glaze fire. How can I prevent that?
You should join The Pottery Studio Group on Facebook. Lots of good feedback for questions like that. Too complex for this format. Thanks.
What a great results and colour to share!👏👏👏 I really like this green! In fact trying to find the recipe of Verde Green, this seems very close. Btw, it seemed smooth enough to brush on, but is it also used as dipping glaze? Thank you a lot for sharing the demo. :-)
Yep - you can dip too!
@@LittleStreetPotteryThanks alot! :-) Will try out soon.
no glass frit?
What you have to say is very interesting and helpful. I don’t think you need the irritating music.
so can you recommend a list with all the glaze recepies, or are those secret to pottery ppl?
Some potters are secretive about their recipes. I share all mine either in the context of the video and in the descriptions of our recent vids you can find the link to my home made liner glaze. Also, glazy.org is a great resource. Good luck!
Hi
Thank you so much
What is the whiting
My personal white liner recipe in the description...give it a try!
Hello, do you have any idea how I can make glaze for red clay found in West Africa.
Hi Mary - If you are looking for a good glaze for red clay I would suggest looking at Dante's videos at Earth Nation Ceramics on RUclips. He does great glaze reviews and also uses darker clay. I use porcelain most of the time.
@@LittleStreetPottery ok thanks so much
nice video love the glaze. the one thing I wonder about is the Zinc oxide and it's toxicity. 12 g seems high or am I being paranoid?
When its mixed in a glaze you dont have to worry - it does not leach out. Its a good sunscreen too! :)
@@LittleStreetPottery thank you!
What temperature is this fired?
Sorry, I didnt see your question sooner. I fired it to cone 5 in my electric kiln. Happy potting
Hello what kind of sieve are you using?

Thanks for watching!
@@LittleStreetPottery thank you
You're very fun to watch and learning a lot of new tricks thanks again.
Could you please explain what silica is? I found all materials except silica.
Silica is Silicon Dioxide (SiO2) a raw material available from clay suppliers and mfg's
Flint or quartz 🙂
if i wanted to make a clear or colorless glaze, would i just not add the last three ingredients?
I would visit glazy.org to check out recipes for clear glaze.
@@LittleStreetPottery thank you!
Hi Ann! I found this video and so grateful I did. Is there a reference you recommend to know what ingredients are food safe and which aren't? Thank you!
I’m not a super expert on glazing but our friends at Earth Nation Ceramics (RUclips Channel) recently put out a great vid on glazing safety...check it out. Also, the book :”Mastering Cone 6 Glazes” by Hesselberth is a great resource. Thanks!
Please I want to know more about Clear glaze 😢 please please
Well done, have you burned them after you glazed???
Yes, the pieces shown at the end of the video are fired (burned). Thanks!
@@LittleStreetPottery
Hi,
Appreciate your answer, …sorry forgot to ask you how long has been fired???
Also would you pls provide me all the raw materials - for 10 cups and how much as well???
Thanks
Also include the scale/measuring tool (maybe used to get density- not sure*1400the demand*)
Thank u for your cooperation
Thank you for the recipe! You use a brush. Is this glaze also possible dipping?
Hi Ma. I usually use this glaze as an accent glaze like you see on the cup with the polka dots so I havent made a big enough batch to dip, but I would think it would work as a dipping glaze if you thinned it down a little more. I would recommend experimenting with it. Good luck and thank you for watching.
what cone was it fired
Cone 5
Hey! Could I fire it at cone 06??
Yep...we fired a couple at 06 later and they came out nice!
@@LittleStreetPottery thank you so much! And is it food safe or I should only apply it outside of a mug? My struggle is that is hard to find recipes for low firing
God knows where you get all these thinhs
Is this glaze food safe?
Yep! This glaze is food safe as long as its fired to cone 5-6
please tell me how to make clear glaze
Hi there - I'm not a super glaze expert but if you go to glazy.org there are lots of recipes there for clear glaze. Good luck!
You don’t mention the firing technique required
Whats "whiting" is?
Ann's white liner glaze - the recipe link is in the description on our last couple of videos. Thanks.
Thanks!! Where do you usually buy your glaze ingredients?
At Clay Art in Sanford FL/ Thanks for watching!
Could substitute ingredients to change the color? That would be a nice video
Thanks for the suggesting Deanna - we will put it on the list!
@@LittleStreetPottery i just found your channel n really like the content. I'm green to Ceramics, I'm a painter, so I don't understand much of the glaze chem. What are the differences between Frits 3120 3124 etc, the borates- i see recipes for one but my supplier only has gerstley for example or the difference of ball clays in sig recipes... Some videos touching on basics like that would be so helpful for ppl like me that more experienced ppl like you may find as common knowledge- BTW thank you for your reply

You said bentonite, but your recipe doesn’t have it. Is that recipe right?🤗
At 1:35 of the video the betonite (and amount) is mentioned on screen with the other ingredients. Is that what you are referring to? Thanks!
Thank you 🤗
@@LittleStreetPottery also for claypot.. Can i use other glaze color.. What do i put to change color.. Or make different glaze color
