Exclusive Across the Internet: Who Exactly Is IceBlueRabbit?
First off, I went through all of (G)I-DLE’s previous comeback teasers, and information about the song composers and lyricists never appeared in any of them. Such details were only made public in the descriptions of the official music videos. However, this time around, the credits for the song creators were revealed in advance in the comeback teaser description-a first in all these years. This can’t be a coincidence; there must be a special reason behind it. Interestingly enough, there is absolutely no information available online about IceBlueRabbit, the lead composer and lyricist. Rather than assuming this is a new producer, it’s bold to guess that IceBlueRabbit might actually be one or more members of (G)I-DLE. This is probably why the creator information was released early: to keep the fans guessing, then reveal the answer when the song drops as a pleasant surprise, and to build up buzz and discussion around “who it could be” ahead of the comeback. Otherwise, what would be the point of having everyone rack their brains over a complete stranger?
The production team of Mono includes familiar names-Daily and Likey. Jeon So-yeon has collaborated with these two on multiple occasions before, working on title tracks and pre-release singles such as Queencard, Good Thing, Wife and more. If this were a song outsourced from another writer, why would So-yeon’s go-to team be involved? They’re even responsible for the arrangement. Normally, a purchased song would be fully produced by external producers. If the in-house team still needs to get involved, it would make far more sense for So-yeon to just write the song with Daily and Likey as she did in the past.
Some people say this is So-yeon’s pseudonym, but I don’t think so. First of all, the name doesn’t fit So-yeon’s style at all, not even a little. Personally, I feel that even if So-yeon were to use a stage name for production work, given her personality, she wouldn’t choose such a long name with no obvious meaning. Second, So-yeon has used her real name for all her previous songwriting credits-why suddenly switch to a pen name now? Some argue it’s to fit the concept of the new song, but there’s no visible connection between the name IceBlueRabbit and Mono. It’s not exactly a word with room for deep interpretation either. What’s more, So-yeon has worked on songs with strong concepts before, like Tomboy and Nxde, yet she never felt the need to use an alias for those projects.
In summary, here’s my conclusion. First of all, IceBlueRabbit is definitely a stage name-there’s no way someone’s real name is that, right? Ice, Blue, and Rabbit are clearly three words with little relevance to one another. I’m more inclined to believe that each word refers to a different person, most likely the group’s producer line: So-yeon, Minnie, and Yuqi. This could very well be the first time the three of them have collaborated on writing a song together, and they came up with this fun stage name for their little trio on a whim. This kind of playful idea is totally in line with (G)I-DLE’s vibe.
