Guys google pls Yuri Kasparyan.
+Владимир Путин He has a great taste in guitars..
I googled 'Yuri Kasparyan guitar' and got here
Another excellent video my friend!
+moondiggitydawg Excellent comment! If only I got one of those every day. Thanks!!
I just bought one of these left handed in a pawnshop for £180. I've always loved the design and I wanted an SG2000. But the playability and the sound of the one I've got is fantastic. Thanks for this video. As you say there isn't much info on these.
That's a killer deal!
Do you still have it?
I own sbg 200 serial no, 307193. Awesome guitar!! I icontacted Yamaha a few years ago and the said it was made in 1985. Mine is black and well used, had a broken neck when I got it , also was missing tuners (replaced with Grover locking) bridge and tailpiece(replaced with stuff from a box in a local guitar store. Totally love this guitar!!
steve nicholas Amazing guitars! Yes Nato is probably rather fragile, so one can expect headstock breakage. But it plays and sounds like dream!
My 200 rarely goes out of tune. Sits in a case for years and stays in tune pretty much. Love this guitar, owned it since 1992.
It's one of the beast guitars I have ever laid my hands on.
Do you still have it?
The headstock angle is just historic luthery - from the lute - and gives a better tone than some headstocks that don't take into account the break angle of the string. Lute historically got broken headstocks too. Fender sort of eliminated the frequency of broken headstocks on their electric guitars, but the string break angle wasn't well thought out. More modern manufacturers and gone the same route as Fender on the headstock but have given the break angle a lot more thought. I have a black version of this guitar with split pickups for in/out of phase with push/pull controls, plus locking tuners 19:1 gear which cured the slipping out of tune. It's a nice guitar to play. Nice demo. Good to see.
Fusion Music - Steve Wright Thanks! Yes it's a wonderful instrument.
I have the same guitar, same finish although mine is dated at 77/78 Made in Japan... Amazing guitars from amazing craftsmen ..I love mine too!
It was magical!

@@jeremystone2658 , yeah it’s probably my most played guitar…

Great review guitar nerd
+Kingcobra McDonald Thanks man!! I don't know why youtube hasn't told me that I had unread comments here..
Awesome video as always.
That looks like an awesome guitar. Since you played the SG-400 ( and i have the silver one tho) How would it compared since you said the necks are different.
And this one doesnt seem to coil split like its more expensive sister guitars
+didactic polymath I have played the SG-3000. It has a really fat neck and it's super-heavy. And no it doesn't have the push-push coil-splits that the more expensive models have. That's a shame, since it seems to have the same kind of pickups. Thanks for the comment!!
I have one, pearl white.. great rock and blues guitar. .
ADMIRALc studio A wonderful instrument!
It is George Kasparyan's guitar
Yes indeed it seems like Yuri plays one of these with a Kahler trem.
I had a Yamaha SG 200 with a kahler tremolo, it's a good, but not the best guitar
Great review, thanks! I own the same guitar, same color, made in Taiwan. I wonder if there is a big quality/sound difference. I believe the ones that were sold in the USA came from Taiwan, Japan ones were sold in Europe. I could be mistaken here.. Also, I think my marked as SBG200
Cheers!
Thanks for the kind comment! I think they moved the production from Japan to Taiwan ar a certain year. I would certainly be interesting to try them back to back! The SBG thing was to avoid being attacked by Gibson in the US and they were called SG in the rest of the world.
I agree, these are lovely guitars, so nice to play and a fantastic bargain at the time they were issued. But here's a thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere: they have a weird kind of tone control wiring (I don't know if the more expensive Yamaha SGs have the same). On a standard tone control the "top" end of the pot's track is unconnected, with the bottom end and the slider connecting to the pickup and to the capacitor. But in these additionally the top end is connected to the coil tap, which means that in the fully up position one of the coils has the 18 nF capacitor directly across it. This gives a bit of a resonance boost at about 600 Hz and some treble cut and effectively a single coil pickup behaviour as you go to higher frequencies. It's pretty easy to change this to the standard circuit by just breaking the circuit at the top end of the tone pot, and you could put in a switch if you want to have access to both versions.
That sounds like something from the fancier SGs since mine didn't have the push/push-coil split that it's bigger sisters have.
@@SwedishGuitarNerd No, there's no push-pull switch -- it's just done with the tone pot rotation -- that's why it's unusual. Backing off the pot a quarter turn from maximum will approximately give you the "standard" circuit.
.. I see that something I said before was ambiguous When I wrote "It's pretty easy to change this to the standard circuit by just breaking the circuit at the top end of the tone pot, and you could put in a switch if you want to have access to both versions" I was meaning you might like to make this modification to the guitar, not that this is something you "could do" with the guitar as it is. Sorry for the confusion.
o own on just like that, except i wasnt crazy about the chrome hardware and black knobs,so i changed mine to gold plated hardware and gold speeders... what i've heard about the pick ups is that Carlos Santana helped design them which explains the richness and brightness of them.
geeterman98 Really? I know he was playing SGs back before PRS :)
he played an SG with P90's THEN in the 80's he went to yamaha then PRS..there's a video of him playing Europa using a Yamaha on here...look it up
geeterman98 I will! :)
These are better guitars than the gibsons they competed with on release, and yes im referring to the sbg200, they are that good. Im glad theyre still easy on the wallet when one goes up for sale.
Yes even though they are rising in prices it's peanuts compared to a Gibson. And I agree - SO much better!
Nice playing and a good sounding guitar.Think I'll try and look for one. Can you give an idea on how much you got if for and how long you have owned it?
+Mark Stanford I payed something like €80 back in 2004. The deals you can make if you're at the right place at the right time.. Thanks for the nice comment!
@@SwedishGuitarNerd would you consider selling it?
@@jeremystone2658 I already have! And I regret it.
I used to have one just like yours in the pearlescent white, lovely colour. For the life of me I have no idea why I sold it, To this day I regret selling it. Thanks for the review :)
Ian Ryan You're welcome!
I know why I sold my black SG200, and it turned out to be unnecessary and much to my regret. The best guitar I've played, which includes some Gibsons.
Go get one now!
See if you can get your hands on the squire 51, and do a review.
+Mike Jones Yes that has been a common request!
"ГРУППУ КРОВИ" ДАВАЙ !!!
And where can you get the same?) I'm a big fan of this yamaha!)
The place to look for one is in Japan. They are rare and hard to find.
@@SwedishGuitarNerd Thanks)
I'm wondering how many guitars you own?
+paul shumaker I've stopped counting :) No it's not that many. I "only" have 6 electric guitars, one acoustic and one bass at the moment. And 4 amps..
Once you have a Japanese guitar, you could not unscrew the pickups and tell me what numbers are written there?
It is still not possible to determine in what years produced the Japanese Yamaha, you have helped to make this :)
If I do I'll get back with that info!
SwedishGuitarNerd Wait you!)
I want to buy yamaha sg 200, who will help?
Are you still looking for one? I have one in BC.
Paid £90 for mine in a second hand shop. Good information.
That's a steal!!! Mine was even cheaper.. Deal of a life-time.
Assume you're talking about the SBG200 rather than SG200? They are excellent guitars.
That's the same guitar. They had different names depending on where they were sold.
SwedishGuitarNerd oh got it - didn't realize that. I got out the one I bought new in'84 yesterday and have to admit it plays and sounds great still! Mine is the sunburst - and it does have the slim neck and relatively flat fretboard. I remember I liked it then because its neck reminded me of my telecasters.
@@nazmoking3171 It's a wonderful instrument!!
I had one.. loved it. Its even it's on my channel.
Good neck, played fast. Stays in tune. A sound ya can't find.
Come listen to it on my chann. I played it a harder than you. But I was riffing it.
I loved mine too. Couldn't agree more! I will check your channel :)

I think you'll find it's Korean or Taiwanese. It says Japan on the machine heads but on the inprint embossing you'll find what I said. I've got the identical guitar. This colour is the same as mine and the Polar White was very popular. I've swapped my pic-ups with Seymour Dunkans. One thing I need to know is what what the body is made of. Do you know? Con from Oz
+Con Petropoulos No mine is stamped with "Made in Japan" where the seriel number is. They moved production to Taiwan much later I think. I would want the original Yamaha pickups in all my guitars! :) The body is made of Nato.
yes quiet correct i think taiwan made the 500b series in 99,,the rest of yamah sg is made in japan
I'm sure I've seen other SG200s made in Taiwan. Not sure what year they were from though.
Yes that's correct. I bought mine in 1989 and it's marked made in Taiwan.
Have you ever hold the other Yamahas SG-200?
Is there a different one?
I am not the owner of yamaha:(
Куплю эту гитару
I have a black one
Consider yourself lucky! I went to Japan a few years ago and was very tempted to buy another Yamaha SG..
Phil X played this model for a few years, then his own signature Yamaha. He now plays and endorses his own signature guitars from Framus - a very similar instrument, but with his refinements. Thick neck, P-90 pickup, contoured body.

www.warwick.de/en/Framus---Products--Guitars-and-Amps--E-Guitars--Custom-Shop--Basic-Guitar-Models--Signature--Phil-XG-Signature.html
The Yamaha that Phil used has a much fatter neck. The Framus one is quite famous for having that too.
Oh yes, the fat d-shaped neck. Particularly with an SG-shaped instrument, the substantial neck profile helps prevent the "rubber neck" effect - where the guitar goes sharp or flat as you move around. Less chance of breaking, too.
Plus, I just love a great big handful of wood... when playing guitar. that is...
An interesting thing is that Phil still makes "dive-bombs" by bending the neck of his Framus guitars. I saw it in a video where he played "Flying high again" by Ozzy.
Very interesting, indeed.
He's Canadian: that's his excuse. Strong arms, weak mind...
Seriously, he is one of my favourite players. I hope to own one of his Framus signature guitars some day.
Interesting they were allowed to call it an "SG".
They had to market it as the SBG200 in America due to Gibson threatening legal action. I actually swapped a 2014 Les Paul 70s Tribute for my SG200. It's probably one of the best guitars I've owned. Definitely equal to - or better - than the Gibson. Lighter too, which is a big plus. Get one if you can!
Would you sell it to me?
I don't own it anymore. That was a bad decision..
@@SwedishGuitarNerd for sure! Not trying to make you feel bad but you should! ;)
Sbg not sg
No this is an SG. They had different model-names in different parts of the world.
Is that guitar for sale?
Check with Odin Guitars, the current owner.
Also I got rid of that stupid circuit board and put proper pots and capacitors in.
+Adrian Llewellyn I have never checked the electronics since mine works great
