It was reported that the last known British survivor who was held captive by the Japanese and worked on the Burma Railway died on the 19th Jan 2024, he was 104 years of age, name Jack Jennings, google his name Jim and you can read about him and what it was like for the time he was there. Small snippet that may bring a smile to your face was that his daily meal whilst held as a prisoner was a daily diet of rice, when he finally made it home his Mum after finishing his dinner said "I've made your favourite for dessert Jack 'Rice Pudding'.
Thanks Brian very much appreciated and will look later. I have pinned your comment to top of my comments so others can also research, hopefully ok? All the best, Jim
Such a very moving vlog Jim, the museum looked interesting and the cemetery was so well looked after a tribute to those young men who went through so much pain and brutality all so very young. Just heartbreaking, very sensitively done Jim .
Hi Jim, i have visited the cemetery a few times and yes its always pristinely looked after, the ages of those poor lost souls struck me, all so very young. Have you ever seen the Kwai Bridge re-enactment of the bridge bombing, its usually early December for a week, its fantastic, lots of pyrotechnics, i nearly fell of my seat when an underwater one close to me went off. I would highly recomend a viewing of this event if you get a chance one year, i wish i had a photograph of those elephants in the water, i would have that framed and on my wall. Cheers, thanks.
As always thanks for the kind words Billy very much appreciated.Hopefully one day we can make the yearly serve at the cemetery to pay our respects. Yes great seeing the elephants first thing in the morning wonderful sight. All the best buddy
I know exactly what you mean about feeling emotional Jim, i visited the same cemetry a few years back and felt the same, unfortunately history always seems to repeat...so sad
Such a moving vlog Jim. The museum and cemetery offers great respect to those POWs that gave their lives building the railway. It's strange that despite many more non military fatalities there are relatively few cemeteries to honour the civilians that died. How long did it take you to train the mosquitos to attack Chris?
Hi Raymond, mosquitoes were everywhere at Koh Lipe and this was there first visit to Thailand. Both Nuch and I were Ok but I live in long trousers. Im sure they will be back in the future, lovely couple! All the best
Don't worry would never the elephants being abused for the sake of tourism! I have never seen the elephants getting washed in the river and thought it looked amazing with the sunrise, Cheers

Yes totally agree, war is so pointless and horrific. I do worry that today things are escalating with the Russia V Ukraine situation.
