  • The new expansion Dawntrail just came out for Final fantasy XIV, FFXIV. I want to have a look at all the changes that happened to the classes with the update, Looking at Casters now. We'll have a look at Blackmage, Summoner and Redmage. And make our way through other classes in future videos. Hope you enjoy the insight and speculation as to how the changes will affect the classes.
    Black Mage: 00:00
    Summoner: 05:49
    Redmage: 07:56
    End: 09:58
Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida and released worldwide for PlayStation 3 and Windows in August 2013, it replaced the failed 2010 version, with subsequent support for PlayStation 4, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Final Fantasy XIV is set in the fantasy region of Eorzea, five years after the devastating Seventh Umbral Calamity which ended the original version. In the Calamity, the elder primal Bahamut escaped from his prison, an ancient space station called Dalamud, unleashing an apocalypse across Eorzea. Through temporal magic, the player character of the original version escaped, reappearing at the start of A Realm Reborn. As Eorzea cements its recovery, the player must fend off a reignited invasion from the Garlean Empire.

The aoe nerf actually annoys me. Im a big fan of using a quad flare rotation and they just gut it for no reason.

@FirestormHF yeah, all the aoe potenties for black mage were reduced for some reason. I guess it must of been too op? but these drops seem harsh

BLM is ruined, no more non standard rotation, the DPS is trashtier, and you can't even optimize a single thing because they force you to play with umbral phase. I've never considered to reroll but since DT i might do it.

    I genuinely hate this.
They removed so many of the features we recieved in Endwalker. They removed Sharpcast, so no Enchanced Sharpcast feature. They removed Enhanced Flare from our upgraded High Fire II, they removed the other half of Paradox.
As a replacement to these features we got? Nothing. Nothing at all. High Thunder is damage neutral, even a DPS loss when used early for movement compared to old Sharpcast Thunder III because the Thundercloud proc used to deal the entire DOT in a burst then reapply.
Flare Star severely punishes the dropping of Enochian more than ever, it also discourages early finishes to your Fire Phase dumping on Despair as even that is now a damage loss.
The Enchanced Polyglot trait is frankly useless because you shoukd ALWAYS dump the two you revieve in 2 minute burst. It puts no pressure on the BLM player to even use them in burst outside of intuition.
This rework is a nightmare. Progging with BLM is genuinely trolling. Evem if you use it solely for mechs you know in and out it's DPS output, even at IT'S BEST, it'w absolute pinnacle is only SLIGHTLY better than a RDM preforming at the same level.
They need to revert this change. It is abyssmal.

As an adage; I didn't even play non-standard. This has completely killed this job even in it's standard format.

Have they ever reverted the changes to a class from negative responses to it? I've only played since the end of shadowbringers, but for all the changes I saw people complaining about, I don't recall anything ever being reverted.
It's a shame, I was super excited to play blm for this tier and now I'm questioning it, the small optimisations from sharpcast thunder and despair being cut. And Ley lines/polyglot becoming easier as well.
I'll still give it a good try at a later date, but after all I've heard I'm not too hopeful. I always thought blm was a class that was safe from big changes 🙁

@@dovakingbling I can still see ways it can be saved and redeemed. Given back what what taken while keeping the change they want to see.
They could just make the server tick on BLM UI 1-3 just give 2500, 5000 and 10,000MP per "tick" or 3 seconds. Bringing back Paradox in Ice can allow anyone, provided they didn't skip out on casting Blizzard IV their full amount of MP.
Having Despair make Flare Star instant cast and making Despair giving a buff equal in potency to the amount of Fire IV's casted, that way they can "nerf" specific off-standard rotations that end fire phase early for a technical DPS up by simply reducing the extra potency given by each individual Fire IV.
Removing Sharpcast was entirely unnecessary but if they REFUSE to back down on the change entirely they need to make potency adjustments or a special trait for Thunderhead that just makes it... not shit compared to old Thunder III and Sharpcast. Truthfully the old system was not complicated and anyone who neglected buffs simply failed to understand RNG manipulation and also specific timing of that manipulation was Sharpcasts entire gimmick. Truthfully I have maybe one better solution that being Thunder III being restored and when cast, it GIVES High Thunder which just does the same "burst" of damage Thunder III did while re-applying the DOT.
Truthfully, we need major and concise criticism on the job by the very limited people who love it. It isn't limited because it's hard but because the job is designed willingly about restrictions and finding ways to elevate them. Mobility is not an issue for a vast majority of classes, BLM is one of the few that sacrifices mobility for it's class identity. You can SEE a good Black Mage in the wild because of HOW they create movement opportunities when they need it, exactly as they need it. Unfortunately major voices in the XIV community, bar Eku Splosion, don't see how detrimental the changes are to the job are and even then his (Eku Splosions) criticisms are agreed upon broadly (by people who understands and love the job) or celebrated by bad faith community members celebrating the "death" of the "special treatment" that BLM had, that "special treatment" being great job and class fantasy design - is sad. If we have people celebrating over the loss of a job, I don't want to play with these people.
If they don't change it, we just have to let them know we are willing to leave until they make compromise. The fact DRG and AST were supposed to get reworks sickens me this expansion by how little they've truly changed while BLM was so casually deconstructed without fanfare. It feels malicious, atleast to me.
Most of the changes this expansion feel either Reductive (removes features) or retroactive (not actually a feature you gain going from LVL90-100)

@@puppachino You have a very well laid out argument. The changes you would make to the class not only seem simple to do but a lot more fun than what they did.
Is there any way for square enix to actually know that the blackmage enjoyers do not like the changes though? I didn't know about the distain for it until I made the video, but I tried to avoid most things ffxiv related since dawntrail came out.
I also agree that a lot of the changes feel reductive, like, despite making the buff window 20s universally, dark knight and gunbreaker both lost the damage on their gap closer, because it was too "busy" or something. Dragoon losing dragon sight and spineshatter dive, blackmages losing sharpcast. These were like my most played classes in their respective roles as well
