Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.
My grandpa was so excited when he learned I had gotten a guitar for Christmas one year and he taught me dazed and confused but he was so proud, weeks later he passed away and I promised from now on I will be playing with all my heart and play as strong as I can for my grandpa...
I know he would be damn proud
Awesome! Bless him for passing a wonderful skill that will serve you well, and benefit you in any way you choose! Great for therapy, concentration, stress relief, or even making a few bucks! 😄❤️
Great story. The best things in life are free. And someday you will teach your child and/or grandchild. Something to pass on down the generations.

That bass line gives me chills every time.
Right! I can't listen without making my ugly bass face... If ya know ya know 😤 lol
I’m glad when ppl check jpj, he underpins Bonham & page brilliantly on the fast section
The first time I heard it I got chills walking through my old elementary school playground at night. Listening on a ghetto blaster with fellows high as a kite, hell yeah CHILLS.
You are right though, that bass line is so sick. It's just fucking crazy how awesome of a bassist John Paul Jones is and what a compliment to the pounding beat of John Bonham as this piece moves ominously along to its powerful climax. Zep at its worst is light years better than most bands at their best.
Has to be one of if not the most iconic bass lines ever. It's also one of the most simplest. Just shows complexity is not always needed.

I was in my room one night, probably 15 years ago, trying to sleep. I was suddenly awoken to the bass opening of this song. I went downstairs and there’s my dad, sitting at the dimly lit kitchen table, his amp and bass guitar plugged in playing along to Dazed and Confused. He felt like a jam session in the middle of the night. I couldn’t get mad at that. Sometimes, even when your kids are trying to sleep, you just gotta get the Led out!

That’s exactly right John, people vastly underestimate the production skills of Page. They go right to his guitar, he may have been a top 3 producer of all time with worse equipment

So true! The tempo change at 3:30 is phenomenal. That's when the Zeppelin leaves planet Earth on a mind-blowing journey through the universe. I've been listening to this tune for 50 years now, and it still sends my pulse racing. It's better than sex!
Pretty sure this was a relatively planned take but Bonzo actually has purposely added drums on live sessions to get them out of abstract parts that have dragged for awhile. There's video of it and you can tell that's what happened.
This was the heaviest song recorded during it's time, opening a path for some seriously loud and fast hard rock and metal that was to eventually come...
Helter Skelter was definitely heavier an much more messy
@@alexandrocinta I disagree. Skelter was certainly heavy for it's time, but listen to Dazed and Confused from 3:28 - 5.26 minute mark - you hear an extremely intense fast bass lick like never before, powerful loud drumming, and Page's blaring guitar riffs, all combining to create a sublime sound for heavy metal that had never been heard before. Find me a song with a segment heavier than that before 1969!
First Dazed and Confused was written by Jake Holmes and recorded in 1967. Zeppelin reworked the song and recorded it in 1969. Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was recorded in 1968. There were several groups exploring heavier sounds.
Definitely!
@@Julius_Paul Check out Blue Cheer's version of Summertime Blues - ruclips.net/video/as1NcX31szs/видео.html. Not necessarily heavier overall than D&C, but damn heavy for the time. It's widely considered to be the first heavy metal song, certainly the first to get any airplay. The album Vincebus Eruptum was released almost exactly a year before the first Led Zep album.

The best band in the whole wide world. Led Zeppelin forever and ever. So inspiring: Bonham's drums, Jimmy's riffs and solos, JPJ's bass lines, Robert's voice, It's only magic. Long live Led Zeppelin 🥺💖💖💖
Don't forget the amazing production on this and the use of echo, reverb etc !!
Damn this tune is top shelf...
Intense solo...
Listening to this makes me fall in love with Zep even more. They incorporated indian "sa re ga ma pa da ni sa" into the guitar riffs almost exactly the way it is taught to young indian kids. Makes me nostalgic.
Shut up

Interesting never knew that.
Did John Bonham realize how good he was?

One of the best songs ever. There is no talent around today that even comes close to this.
saying shit like there is no talent around today just shows you have a very close-minded view of good bands and artists around today. you clearly don't listen to much music from today otherwise you wouldn't be saying bs like that
Ignorant shit like this makes my heart pump.
You got that right.

My favorite song on the first album.
When the music can convey more emotions than a blockbuster level movie
50 years old, still dazed, still confused but definitely still listening!
The drumming and guitar solo is insane
Perfect!
Ahead of its time for sure
