I have got around 140 of H2o's over the past several yrs...from Adventures In Stamping convention,and Kat the owner and creator of the H2o's demoing at the convention. I bought her Dvd that show's tons of techniques and how to use the h2o's and also her book of techniques of h2o's. I love mine... you can paint a whole entire piece of cs with them, and then punch out the cs that has the background all painted with the h2o's on it, and can also use your die cuts and die cut the cs...and the same with your stamps..use the h20's thicker and paint it on the stamp and then die cut or punch the stamp image out... possibilities are endless with these little pots of shimmer paints. The dvd was done by a company called Page Sage.. maker of a lot of dvds including Tim Holtz. Loved this company so much...but went out of business too, just like this company is and no more h2o's. I have bought their Silka paints though, and they are just as dreamy as their h2o's pots of paint. :) "What's Old Is New Again". :-)
Rubons are still available. Lots of brands: Studio Calico, K&Company, Tim Holtz, Pink Paislee, Christy Tomlinson, Mambi, Jenni Bowlin, Heidi Swapp, etc. to name a few. Chain craft stores may not have all those brands but Tim Holtz, Mambi, K&Company, and Heidi Swapp are at Michaels. Like you said they don't have a forever shelf life so use them as you get them. If I am using old ones I apply them as more of a background look vs focal point or important sentiment. Kinda how you would apply texture stamps etc. That way the missing letters, pieces of flowers, and such aren't obvious. Great idea to use as resist!

I've seen a limited amount of Twinkling H2O's at Michael's. I have learned that you can never have too many Birthday cards. I am with you on what is & isn't a deal. Lindsay this is gorgeous - the card, the Twinkling H2O's, and the envelope ta-boot! I found the T-H2O's on Amazon.com and .de and on eBay.de. I think I'm gonna try mica powder with a little bit of watercolor. The resist - well, white or gold crayon on parchment paper and write over it is coming to mind. Who knows what may come. . . I'm off to church - Ya'll have nice Sunday crafting. I know - family, but my family is in Texas. Oh bother.

Beautiful card. I never thought of using rub-ons as a resist - brilliant idea! I too am starting to question everything before I buy it - the stash is getting out of hand! The "Do really need that and will I use it?" question has been a no a lot more often. I keep reminding myself that you keep saying to use what you have and that's what I'm trying to do - reduce a bit of the stash!

I really like both the card idea and the envelope decoration. SO pretty. I have a lot of rub ons, a lot of which are coloured, but I think this technique would work maybe picking out one of the colours from the image, for the background. I'll have to play to find out. I am also spritzing with su-shimmer mists mixed with alcohol--pretty on punched butterflies--as your comment on will I use it--was at hobby lobby fri and found a all alone hidden under stuff tin of derwent art bars!!! price was 49.95--marked down to 17!! held them for long time deciding whether to or not--as am happy with my cheap Crayola paints!!!! But-new won out and they came home!! saved 17 on checkout from other purchase--so good deal lol--
This card and envelope are "to die for" gorgeous! I reeeeally love that leaf stamp you used and would love to find something similar. I love leaves on vines like that, for cards, embroidery, jewelry, doodling, everything... even thinking about a leaf-vine tattoo on my ankle - so for me, a stamp is definitely in order. :D Beautiful colors and love love love the shimmer always! If you don't have a rub on use soap. We would write with a bar of soap and later melt it and paint with it and it was great resist. The dollars store and a lot of store sale cheap watercolor paint sets.
Love the card. I have some shimmering H2Os and haven't used them yet because I wasn't sure how - and now I do! You're right about needing to have cards on hand - it seems I'm always waiting until the last minute. Okay, last question, I promise! I got some of the cards at AC Moore today. They were half off. I'm at a loss on the watercolor paper as it seems pretty pricey to order some just to try this out. Will this technique work at all on regular card stock or any other paper? Also, can you use regular cardstock as well for watercolor pencils until I get some watercolor paper? Hot press/cold press, so many choices and I don't know what I'm doing! :)
That's how I shop, especially on line, I load my cart up with stuff, then when it is time to checkout, I end up talking myself out of many of the items in the basket because for me, it will be a waste of money because I am not going to use it enough to justify the price. Like with Copics, yeah they'd be great to have, but not at 5.25 a marker, when I can get just about the same look with my kids old old Crayola pencils, the prisma's I have invested in because I like to color. Even though I color daily, 5.25 is enough to get almost 2 digi images that I will use over and over, as well as can manipulate the sizes, which is why I very rarely buy stamps. Saving money rolls down hill, you start on one thing then it just goes and goes and goes. Ok enough of my rambling. Beautiful card yet again, I love the colors..

This is very pretty! I'm curious, why would you use hot glue on a card when there are so many different types of glue that will work on every type of surface? Just wondering. Love watching your videos and love that you use so many different types of mediums!

Do you buy little pieces of watercolor paper like this or full sheets and cut it? Im also won dering if any paintbrush will do because you used a watercolor brush
I prefer a nylon brush, they are typically acrylic/watercolor brushes, not expensive but I like them because they are soft and springy and will not pill your paper. I buy watercolor paper in pads, blocks or by the sheet and already cut into card. It does not matter how you buy it:)
Can yountell me the cheapest place to find the blank white cards? Also, what is the difference between watercolor brushes and other paint brushes? I only have a pack of misc brushes.
The cardstock plain cards can be found cheaply in packs of 50 5"x7" with envelopes at Joanns or ACmoore and they are normally $10 a pack but go on sale for $5. The watercolor cards vary between Blick Art Materails and Jerry's Artarama so check both before buying.
Is it the twinkling H20s that give the paper its sheen? If all I have are kid's watercolors, is there something I could add to them to give my card a similar luster? Thanks!

You are so kind to answer all my beginner questions. I wanted to paint hummingbirds of several different species. All Hummers have some metallic colors and many have a lot. I bought a set of Niji Pearlescent by Yasutomo and they looked perfect in the pan, but didn't swatch out with anywhere near as strong a pearlescent look. If they had swatched out like they look in the pans, they would have been just right. They will be nice for other projects. I tried buying the Derwent Metallic 12 set of pencils and they swatched out horribly. Never been so disappointed in a product. This is why I thought metallic would be the way to go, but can't find any. Are there any good water soluble metallic watercolor pencils, paints, markers or other mediums that might work, please? I know you must be tired of me by now, but you have always answered my beginner questions, which is very kind of you, because I know how very busy you are. I wish my brain surgery had not left me with such a low energy level. I would love to be half as productive as you are. Having no talent doesn't help, but you make me believe even I can do something. Thank You!

Cuz even on my budget right now, I could try some dies :-0....I'm looking to try out some new ones. I just have the way old sizzix red dies and i didn't buy smartly back then lol. Fiskars, bar none the best! I have many brands but I make sure my most often designs of deco-scissors are Fiskars. I think they run about $7 a pair but they will last a lifetime;)
+Ann Etheridge I just wanted to jump in and recommend some small, thin shears that I LOVE: Joyce Chen shears! but they do not have a scalloped edge or anything. I had a shop for a few years making the glass tile pendants, and used the Chen shears to cut the paper from around the glass after gluing, etc. I just love them - usually found at a hardware store like Ace. AND they are the best thing in the world, bar none!, for splitting open crab legs! A must have in any kitchen, if not the craft room. ;)

You can buy a bottle of Dragonfly acrylic or iridescent medium and add to regular watercolors or acrylics.

Oh Lisa, this technique is fine on cardstock, use a sturdy white cardstock, it will be fine because you are not painting a picture:)

it was plugged in next to me already LOL! Plus it dries instantly and is cheap. You can use any clear glue though:)

Love this video! The colors are awesome. Guess it's time I find some h2o's....I've been on the fence for quite awhile. But the dies you found at big lots, was that recently? Cuz even on my budget right now, I could try some dies :-0....I'm looking to try out some new ones. I just have the way old sizzix red dies and i didn't buy smartly back then lol. Fiskars, bar none the best! I have many brands but I make sure my most often designs of deco-scissors are Fiskars. I think they run about $7 a pair but they will last a lifetime;)

+Ann Etheridge I just wanted to jump in and recommend some small, thin shears that I LOVE: Joyce Chen shears! but they do not have a scalloped edge or anything. I had a shop for a few years making the glass tile pendants, and used the Chen shears to cut the paper from around the glass after gluing, etc. I just love them - usually found at a hardware store like Ace. AND they are the best thing in the world, bar none!, for splitting open crab legs! A must have in any kitchen, if not the craft room. ;)
