A friend told me those places are often dull iirl, They force meds on them and BAM ! They're all either "normal" or too douped up to do anything.

that's basically how it works. There's no "help" or "getting better" just getting doped up on whatever the doctor decides to put you on until you say believably enough that you wont hurt yourself or anyone else.

How can a school make decisions without permisson of the parents?This guy could contact his parents after he was locked up in the clinic. On top of this, he even needed the permission of the judge to be free. I mean, if you are 18, you must be able to make decisions for yourself right..The school took him away just because he slammed his head against the wall? And then, you are suddenly a danger for yourself? Seriously WTF? This can not happening, not in America, no where around the world..Or could be?

The main reason why I don't speak to anyone about what goes on in my head.. I'll be locked away from everything! Some people better themselves from it, and some get worse.. I know for definite that I'll get worse and I can't deal with that..
As someone who's been in a mental health ward for a short time, I remember some of the nurses chatting to me and they did indeed say they weren't allowed to defend themselves if they were cornered. I always thought this was stupid but oh well :/

9:12--The third story was what pisses me off! So the university was always annoyed at the guy's positive attitude, he was bullied and touched inappropriately while being called slurs and no one did anything, thinking he was being a total goof. And the guy said he would rather hit his head against the wall, which got him into a hospital with staff that didn't care. Man, I feel bad for the guy but really? If someone is doing this, you don't brush it off--You have to help the person that's being bullied. I feel like that story made me lost faith in humanity.

That story doesn't make sense, makes him out to be the total innocent, victim, I can't believe it. Either he's not telling the whole truth or he's flat out making stuff up. Last I checked, you can't just be comitted to a psychiatric ward for a figure of speech. BS, definitely.
It was proven to just be a story. after coming out to his family and friends he started writing a fictional book about his life in his head, it is sad. but he admitted it wasn't true. its just a made up story.

I think the story made it pretty clear, but just as a reminder, most people in asylums and psych wards aren't monsters from horror movies, they're just normal people whose brains aren't functioning the way they should be, and just like normal people, all most of them want is to be treated like a human being. Some patients can be dangerous, yes, but that is exceedingly rare, and even then, it's not because they're evil, just sick. People get put in psych wards because they need help, not because they're irredeemably crazy and need to be kept out of society.
Idk if you’ll be able to see my comment, but I really just said the same thing in my own words… When I would come back from school and tell people that I had been in a psych ward they looked at me funny and some were even scared of me or sad for me but different places I went want that bad , nothing like portrayed in the movies😔

When I got there I knew 2 people and 1 was my X-GF 😳😳😳, lol 😂 🤣!!!!! . Anyway after a week of 24/7 observation (scared to death of being sent to a more permanent facility), they finally let me see the Dr. He said (stop wasting our time, there are people that need to be here. Your a drug addict not a psych patient. You need to go to meetings, get clean and get a job, not use resources that other people really need.. 😳😳😳😳 🤷🤦) .
That was BS but he was letting me leave soooo. But some people there may not even need psychological help on that level. But the upside of it was - - - - I KNEW THAT BITCH WAS CRAZY!! 🤕🙄🤤🤓!!!
I'd say it's half and half no need to sugar coat it for the world so it can be " acceptable " most are monsters according to the world . There's violence in there everyday and you have to be willing to be violent at any given time cause anything can pop off cause someone is fed up with the meds or how things are . The biggest monsters are those who call others monsters in separation of themselves because they believe there are monsters we're all human beings and there is no act that can make us any less or born human for we're already born to what we are . And to an extent it is how it's portrayed in the movies nut the movies exploit more of a certain aspect of it although a significant aspect still doesn't make it the overall aspect as the movies

I was raised in a family with a practicing psychiatrist, but that only served to make me more afraid of the system. The stories my grandfather could tell. Once, he talked about a man being convinced that there was an eagle lodged in his chest, and how he had to talk to the man for about an hour to get him to take his medicine
I'm doing both talk therapy and Zoloft right now. The good news is that it works, but the bad news is that side-effects are a bitch to handle

+Darth Zaida Listen, these stories are just stories. In reality, psychiatric hospitals are not that different from regular hospitals. I spent a few months in a mental hospital and it was really nice and I got the help I needed. Sure, the other patients have problems, but none of them are "dangerous" and the doctors and nurses will keep you safe.

I was at a mental hospital about 2 weeks ago, and the scariest thing there was the food.
But my discharge was about one week after I tried to drown myself. Not months.

Hey busta...I have been going through some depression....luckily, i am not suicidal, but i am getting help....i don't know how effective it will be. I am doing everything in my power to fight it. But hearing how HONORABLE it can be....i have to get better. A lot of people are supporting me, But i don't know. Wish me luck in recovering.
Sometimes I question my insanity many . But some of people sound way off worst. I am suicidal, I have Major depression. But I won't attempt it only because I have a fear I would survive the attempted brain damage or worst. Suicidal people in my view aren't selfish. They aren't happy with the way life is.

I remember when I went to a mental ward. It sucked so much. I was absolutely terrified. I was in for exactly 72 hours for suicide attempts and self harm. Most of the employees there didn't care for very much. I spent a majority of my time hanging out near the nurse's station (which you aren't allowed to do...I got away with it somehow)
Luckily, the nurses really liked me. So, they gave me orange Gatorade.
Once I got out, I was a changed person. If I see, smell, or hear anything that reminds me of that hospital, I break down. The only good thing was the Gatorade. Nothing particularly creepy happened, it was just...a very unpleasant situation to be in.
Also, since I was only 13, they treated me like a baby. They would sit there and watch me eat. You'd think that they'd be nicer to the kids there...they weren't.
Are u still suicidal? Hopefully not because 1. That story and memory should show u what would happen if you did commit or try self harm again. And 2. Firstly, I'm sorry if I came off partially offensive in my first point but just remember that suicide is never the way out even if ur at ur lowest lows you can always find a way to rebound and become successful from ur past experiences (such as counseling, and motivational speaking), and there is Always one person in your life which cafes and will look out for u. They support you. Even if u don't believe it or don't want to believe it there is always at least one. :)
+Formuliss ah, well, I'm on the right medication and the right dosage now. I also have people that I can talk to if the thought comes up again. So, things are looking a lot brighter! I still have my slip ups, but, they're a lot less frequent than they were before.

when I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, I was that girl that everyone loved. the girl who really had no problems except for really bad anxiety. the techs, nurses, and other patients said I was always nice and kind and that I was the most "normal" girl. that was not the truth tho. most people who have been thru a lot are nice and kind. I'm not normal. I may have had lesser problems that the others, but I still had my issues

As scary as these are, psych ward stories break my heart because of the malpractice and I humane conditions that seem to still exist. Someone answer this for me, if possible: I'm baffled by the idea that they would put schizophrenics, bipolar, and borderline personality all in the same ward. Those aren't even remotely related to one another. Why would that ward be set up that way?
+Leah Gerras I agree but maybe it was just for psychosis. like only for extreme cases of bipolar and BPD that can mimic schizophrenia. still I agree it seamed a bit off! why was all that stuff on the walls, clean it up! pentagrams? really? Sounds a bit corny and cliche to me! It's either a fake story or that's an awful place to not take concerns of safety seriously!! seems a bit off, it's obviously not healthy for a patient to become that obsessed with any professional, I don't see how a respectable hospital would allow it to get that far!!
A part of me really wants to believe it's fake, but at the same time a girl I went to trade school with admitted herself to one for severe depression and told me about her experience. Sans the wall-pentagrams, it was pretty similar in terms of where people were housed and how the staff dealt with the more psychotic patients.
The extreme cases notion makes some sense. I say some because again, the patients mental health is hugely impacted by their staff and general surroundings. But I do see where you're coming from.

I'm really sorry to hear that. :( that really disappoints me. I'm not a doctor or psychologist, but I had to read medical records for people applying for Disability benefits at my last job. A lot of frauds applied, but I gave each claimant the benefit of the doubt until I had evidence. I reported a couple of doctors for polyfarming patients and talked with a lot of on-site psychologists at the job about some of things I was seeing. I worked the hardest on mental claims because there was so much grey area.
It really bites knowing a state-worker with a trade school certificate was trying to help people more than several people with 8-10 year degrees and medical licenses.
Agreed. I've been in and out of mental health units and the isolation played a bigger role than any of the worksheets they made us do. Isolation drives people insane and keeping people on "lockdown" doesn't do jack shit. Infact, I find the most therapeutic thing is when we get to talk with other patients about experiences. Instead, nurses prevent us from talking because of course they don't know how to take care of us.

The name of that college in Arizona that had that student sent to a psychiatric facility, should be published so that others are warned from going there. The way this State treats it's mentally ill is truly horrendous.

Definitely brought back memories of earlier this year for me. My last night in the ward back late january, a new girl came in night and ran into my room screaming for help and jumped onto my roommates bed shaking her awake, and nurses had to force her off and she ended up fighting them too. It was really terrifying, woke everyone up too. She even managed to run into a little boys room and did the same thing

I can relate to story 3. I'm not gay. But the guy who's been harassing me at work I think is. I got diagnosed with a seizure disorder last month. Since this happened my civil rights been violated in many forms. They gave me a leave of absence because they said some of the employees are afraid to be around me and my recently developed anger issues don't help either. I have an anger problem due to the fact my supervisors broke HIPAA law and undisclosed my information to everyone at work. Now I'm being harassed because of a mental disability. HR gave me a document to get signed by a licensed professional counselor stating if and when I can return to work. HR wrote up a list of the matters at hand. Pretty much these sick fucks I work for put some shit in the document that will ruin my life. I tried to get legal aid. But no lawyer will help me because of who I work for. I can't get another job because of my seizures, I need the health insurance, the state won't help because I make too much. So, what this all boils down to. If I say I'm crazy as fuck I get to keep my job. I hate civilian life.
