“People Will Be PARANOID About Speed” | Reaction To Wales’ New 20mph Speed Limit

  • Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
  • Wales has become the first UK nation to reduce speed limits in built-up areas from 30mph to 20mph in an effort to reduce fatalities and noise pollution as well as to encourage people to walk or cycle.
The Welsh Government said the new speed limits will cost £32.5 million, with the United Nations, environmental and road safety groups all backing the move and opposing politicians declaring it a "war on motorists".
TalkTV’s Jake Berry discusses Wales’ decision with lawyer and road safety campaigner Nick Freeman.

The answer is complete chaos. SOME roads are now 20mph, whilst other exact same roads, with no discernible difference, remain at 30mph. Lots of suburban streets remain at 30mph. It's all just randomly changed with no logic whatsoever.
Also, 99% of motorists are taking zero notice of any changes anyway.

It is not pollution-neutral. 20mph is more polluting because a traditional car engine races faster in the lower gears. Cars are not designed to travel distances in the lower gears. Since the traffic will pass slower over road lengths there will be more congestion. This will also result in more pollution because more cars will be waiting at junctions for a space to get out and more cars will be at a standstill coming off main roads and waiting for the traffic to move on. This will be the best raw material for comedy sketches in a long while.

Loads of cars parked along two sides of the road outside school meaning you take a chance walking through the gap between vehicles to cross over. Numerous buses and mini buses dropping kids off. The uphill approach road to the school featured cars not doing 20, not even 30, more like 40. Instead our leader's idea is to impose this 20 mph on roads that rarely see a child anywhere near them. Then again they are in areas which can give him the most revenue from fines . The Senedd is full of know it alls who actually know very little. To my friends in England, vote Labour at your peril.

However, if a multidrop delivery driver was able to 100 packages yesterday, it must stand to reason they will have a 33% reduction in productivity in those 20mph zones. Which would mean, today they might only be able to deliver 67 packages. Who's going to deliver/make up the shortfall?

Some of the antics and stunts I've witnessed over the past 10 to 20 years performed by both those groups beggers believe. Anyone who believes road traffic law will keep them safe and well by dictating to motorists needs to seek psychiatric help. The bottom line is, what will they put on your stone, 'the law said it was my right of way'!
