B.O.S.S are the only kits that are well thought out. There fishing kit had a yoyo fisherman and that shows that they get that you have a lot to do in a survival situation other than sitting there fishing. They get tinder + kindling in this kit with the fat wood. They give a shit about their kits without charging an arm and a leg..
The fire kit is awesome. The hunting and fishing kit which is really fishing kit looks pretty awesome because it has a lot of little things that would be cool to have. After going to their website my opinion is their shelter navigation water and signaling boss kits are overpriced and suck. Of course that's my opinion.
The #1 thing missing from that kit are"trick birthday candles". They can be easily lit with any spark,or flame. They take up very little space,are inexpensive,and they will also stay lit under even the worst weather conditions.
i got one of these kits based on this video. went up to the mountains a few times with it and i gotta say: i was pretty impressed with it. and that fire steel is probably one of the best ones i've ever used.
@@falkharvard8722 IAWoodsman made a bucksaw with one, pointing out that they break very easily if you try to use the rings as pull handles with your hands. Definitely the best way to use a wire saw.
On another note once the lighter runs out of fuel and if the metal guard is removed can still set spark to many of the materials in the kit to start a fire, just an FYI.

For the wire saw, id just like to add, when using this it is in your best interests to find a couple of sticks to put through the loops to protect your fingers and give yourself a better grip, otherwise those steel loops will blister the hell out of your fingers and wear out the muscles in your hands. Also another quick suggestion, after you baton down that fat wood, id run it through the pencil sharpener.
The 33 piece kit I made at home myself. It all fits in an October Country leather belt bag that goes on my outer belt with my shorty K-Bar knife and my Silky axe. I also carry an extra kit in my pocket; an oval old-fashioned tobacco tin with a burning lens in the top. A third kit is in my outer pocket of my pack. That one has flint and steel in it with jute and Chaga chunks and Paper Birch bark. If I cannot start a fire with all of this, I must be underwater or on the Moon.
Really like the inclusion of the bering swivel for the bow drill. Never thought of that one and have now added one to my kit. Imagine I will have to embed it into a curved out spot or a knot hole to hold it well

Another good addition to the rule of 3's: 3 seconds without hope. If you don't have hope, drive and determination to stay alive, all the food, water and gear won't save you if you lay down and give up.

With the fat wood sticks I baton them down so far and then run them thrue the pencil sharpener it is easier to do and if you want you can do it at home and place the shavings in a small zip lock bag for storage and use as needed it saves time when needed in case of cold wet weather when fire and heat are needed most

Patrelium jelly comes in squeeze tubes and can serve as fire paste, just sharing. Just keep other flammable stuff away when you light it up folks, accidents suck.
Not a bad kit at all to start with. Though only through practice can you figure out what works for you. Then build your own or customise an existing kit. A word of caution too, there is a tenancy to pack everything and the kitchen sink. Practice with this stuff till you can put your kit together with what works in your environment using the essentials and a couple of extra "just in case" helpers. Experience and planning will win over fancy gear in most situations. Empty zip lock bags for gathering/storing extra tinder not a bad item to bring along too. You'll be glad you did if you have to use it. For example for me 100 m jute twine £2, fire steel £3 and clipper lighter £1.38. Would all work great as a fire kit. 100m of jute will last a long time and has never failed me. the above also has 3 methods of lighting the jute that I have used personally. Lighter flame, sparker from clipper and fire steel.
Great video, my survival / bug out bag is finished, but it would be a great gift to give to family for birthday or Christmas gift, and who knows maybe it could save their life one day 👍🏻

I use a magnifying glass to light a cigarette, then knock the cherry off that to start fire with. Much faster than trying to make an ember in other ways. And then once the fire is lit, i can finish my smoke... lol. Works really well
2 things I noticed right off the bat. When using that saw to cut you want to use as much as the surface as you can to avoid wearing it out in one place also it distributes the Heat and it doesn't get as hot which damages them overtime so you need to use long pulls. The second thing is that fatwood would work better with your pencil sharpener than that little knife. You can baton it down to pencil size. I'm not saying it doesn't work the way you did it it would just be quicker and easier and I think that's a hell of a cool idea that little pencil sharpener. I'm going to have to get one for my kit
The foil paper is to start a fire with. Take the 9v battery and touch it to a small strip of the paper. The battery will heat up the aluminum which catches the paper on fire.

Depending on the shipping, this might work out well as a cheap way to pick up some fire starting stuff. I might get one to split up into different bags
I would suggest a pencil tool sharpener meant for a thicker carpenters pencil. That would allow for a greater variety of branches. I dont suggest using it for it's intended purpose though. Sharpen carpenters pemcils with a knife.

Those wire saws, If you put sticks in the rings when you're sawing it helps a millions times to not kill your fingers and be able to use more force.

You could also use a longer branch, cut a notch on each end and place the rings on the notches of the branch to make a bow saw.
this. have seen it done and it works almost as good as a cheap folding saw

Josh Enyart (GB2) has these on his site too. I buy from him almost exclusively now. He's the man for sure.
Once fuel runs out in lighter, remove child proof guard and grind the wheel to powder some ferro rod. Use bit ferro rod to throw a spark.

You could add another zip bag to the fire starter,, with Dryer Lint, Petroleum Jelly and cotton balls. Maybe pine cone petals.
