Liz - I'm 59 and very close to retiring. I considered buying an RV to go on a celebration tour out west. After watching so many of your videos and those done by others, there is NO way I'm entering the RV world. I was strongly considering Tiffin and Jayco and both Thor management teams are a bunch of scumbags. Can't believe how much of what is produced is just plain c-r-a-p. Everything from purchase to product to so-called 'support' comes across as slimy. Nope ... will go another direction. THANK YOU for all you do. You're amazing.

The RV manufacturers need to understand that if they would simply take care of their customers issues, they’d never see another buyback get submitted! We just want what we paid for and what the manufacturer and dealer promised us to get us to sign the purchase agreement, nothing more, nothing less! The last thing we as consumers want is to worry about buybacks also but when our issues fall on deaf ears, what choice do we have?
Thank you for being our voice Liz!! We all appreciate you and all you do!!

Until people stop buying these things, the manufacturers will never change their stripes. Stop. Buying. RVs. 🛑 Cut the manufacturers off and let them start over. The industry is in the situation it is in because of greed. Cheap Chinese tires cost less than good American tires. Slapped together shoddy construction cost them less than quality construction. But even with all the warning signs, Mr. and Mrs. RV buyer walk into a dealership and slap down $50,000, $100,000, $300,000, $500,000, $700,000 on these things, and they are rolling junk-wagons. Even the Tifffins, Newmars, and Airstreams. But what do consumers do? Hey, that won’t happen to me! I’m special! I’ve done my “homework”, and besides, my RV salesperson is a really nice guy. 😂

If this industry would just sell quality products, they wouldn't have to go thru all this trouble to keep it secret when they help their customers out with these lemons!! Good for you, Liz, for not backing down! Companies seem to rely on threats and intimidation anymore when they are exposed, when they usually don't have a legal leg to stand on, but unfortunately that is usually all it takes. Keep up the good fight!

Better quality will cost more, Requesting an extended warranty ? Hmm lots of the new Generation don't have the skills or want
to do manual labor, so long delays for getting it repaired. Europe does create some great RVs but no generators.Telling Congress! They can't even fix fema! Best thing is do your research and pay for an inspection on new or used, do educate youself on lemon law before you purchase.

We owned a Class A motorhome in the late 80's to the late 90's when our children were growing up. We loved every minute of the experience. It was a great way to vacation as a family. I could not imagine having to endure some of the problems encountered by you viewers. It saddens me to see how far the RV industry has fallen.
In this video you talk about the limited duration of the warranties offered by the industry, especially expensive motorhomes. As I recall, back in the 90"s Newmar offered a three year "bumper to bumper" warranty on their coaches. It would be interesting to know why they quit offering this. My guess is that even though Newmar was a quality coach builder at that time the warranty probably ate up a good bit of their profits. Right or wrong this is the only longer term warranty I can recall.
Even though It's been a long time since our RV days I do enjoy watching your videos and I think you perform a great service for the owners AND the companies. The companies just don't yet know that.

Liz you said it so well , spot on , I wish more folks who are RV owners would do that , they need to stick together in this !
Now warranty for a $40,000.00 or $800,000.00 RV unit I feel for what the product is and used for should be at least 10 years !
It’s not unreasonable for a $750,000.00 unit to have coverage for a 20 year period !

  • @joeblow3939

A major contributor to this is, every year all is new.
New layout, new appliances, new windows, new roof materials.
Rather than focusing on perfecting what is already being manufactured they all think they need to start the new model year out by starting with new everything. Another thing I think adds to all of the problems, is volume rather then quality.
It's like all RV manufacturer's are in competition to see who can produce the most units in a single year. Then take into consideration how many different manufacturer's there are.
I think far more are being made each year then are being retired units. This giving new meaning to the old adage, you have outdone your self this time. To many units and not enough buyer's. Then to add to the problem of availability of campgrounds. Rest areas are cutting back on overnight parking, big box stores and shopping malls are pushing away stay over parking. Prices for good camp grounds are reaching the price of a five stare Hotel with all the amenities.
    Liz,
I think you are doing a great service for the RV consumer.
P.S. this is what has led to the fall of, if for any reason your not happy with our product bring it back for a full refund. No questions asked. Why I say this? The big home improvement stores used to take items back and refund the money to the customer. Then customers abused that privileged by using something for there purpose, only to return it when done.
I have seen people use lawn mowers for a full season only to return it for a full refund. This led to the 30 day with receipt refund.
Keep up the great work.👍👍2thumbs up

I know Toyota lately has had some major issues with new Trucks. Having said that, I remember watching and commenting on a video I watched a few years back. This Toyota employee was asked to attend a meeting with some ford engineers and discuss how they deal with defective vehicles. So the Ford team said they would repair the product and then send it back for sale. This Toyota employee told the Ford engineers at Toyota they would study the defect(s) a d then come up with solutions to resolve any issues. Then after all studies were complete, the defective vehicle is sent to the crusher. Imagine that. Even watching channels like TFL, any preproduction vehicles are crushed. Imagine that. I think this speaks to how hard Toyota tries to get it right.

My wife and I bought a brand new 2023 East to West Alta 2400kth toy hauler from Camping World in North Carolina & drove from California to pick it up. Upon arriving to pick it up, we found it in pieces. We were forced to leave with it unfinished and promises of finishing it later. This was back in April of this year. We have had it out on three small trips only to have it go immediately back into the shop for warranty work. It has been in for warranty work for over 90% of the time. We have not even been able to try everything out in the trailer yet. The only good thing is that CW in CA, so far, has not given us any trouble about getting things fixed. It just takes forever and apparently shipping is a big concern/problem. Our main concern is that our warranty of one year is going to run out before we even have a chance to test everything. We have had the tankless water heater replaced three times, the oven has been replaced twice, multiple leaks fixed and we’ve had a bunch of other things continuously go wrong. We have thought about asking them to take it back multiple times but they make that seem impossible.

Minimum of a 3 year warranty Liz, many rigs are not used but a few times a year. Another option would be to have the manufacturer give the purchaser a free extended warranty for another 3 to 5 years. Those things would help but if your frame is flexed or cracked, the extended warranty usually will not help with that. Great video Liz, keep moving the needle forward!

Lots of good info in this video Liz. I'm not surprised that RV companies don't want the news publicized about a buyback when they are pushing garbage out the door. That's a big red flag and I want to know who they are so I can avoid them at all costs!! But that's the whole point of them not wanting people to know. I think companies like Jayco should be rewarded with their honesty about good customer relations by more people buying their product. They could make that even better with a decent warranty such as the the one you got with your vehicle. Jayco could grab a huge part of the market if they maintain genuine concern, honesty and stand by their product. Thank you Liz for your hard work!!

Liz, I commend you for freely giving of your time and expertise ….though, I think you should be compensated. I have followed your channel closely over the last couple of years. I have personally learned a lot, and while I can’t be on the road anytime soon I do say thank you. Another component of a buyback is the failure to compensate buyers for their “pain and suffering” through the ordeal. I can see in some cases where a DNA protects those given a buyback, in that it finalizes the issue and they can move on - doesn’t give them a chance to vent, doesn’t help others but the closure might be a blessing for that particular situation. Just trying to see both sides of the coin, something your exposes have been very fair at doing. Again, I truly appreciate the work you are doing and will continue to pray for your wisdom and safety - and that contributions for your efforts are forthcoming. 😊. You are a marvelous advocate. 👍🏻

An warranty recall was issued and I took it in to the dealer. It was taken care of, no questions asked. Honda and other car manufacturers know that if they don't step up to the plate, it will cost them big business. That's why these videos are so important.

Back when Lexus was new (1989) they had a fatal flaw in their flagship car. Toyota knew that the negative news would hurt if not out right kill their new car line and they had to make things right before the mainstream media found out. Toyota wanted the BMW and Mercedes owners into their Lexus model line. The plan they executed was to contact each owner and offer them a customer appreciation day. Lexus flatbed'd their next years model to the customer for a day (with a full tank of gas ) and picked up the defected current model. They serviced the catastrophic flaw, washed the vehicle and returned it to the customer at the end of the day with another full tank. The customers got to drive the next year's model for the day while Toyota (Lexus) was able to avoid the negative news by people who would otherwise buy Mercedes or BMW .

Yes, this video is very important. However, if congress does not pass an RV lemon law, nothing will change. RV built quality will only improve if there is an RV lemon law. It will force RV manufacturers to improve built quality.

We should all start contacting every rv dealer via text & email so there is a record asking them if they do buy backs.
Contact the dealer and every salesman with this question.

Right on as always. We have so many issues we can't let people think they can get a refund or we will be out of business. How sad. Should be like a car warranty. 3/36 bumper to bumper and 10 year delamination. Won't happen because they are terrible manufactures. Thanks for keeping the pressure on.

Thanks for the consumer advocate work you are doing. I know you are focused on people who have already purchased and had issues, but you are helping others like my wife and I (55 & 58) make educated decisions about future purchases. We have been talking about RVing part time in retirement which is less then 5 years away. Your videos have been eye opening and at this point, we are deciding to stay away from the RV industry until there is marked change in production quality. Thanks again.

You have nailed it Liz, they are afraid because they know how bad their product is. As I stated before the blame should not be placed on any individual person, but the process and ultimately the leadership. BTW typically the length of a warranty is calculated to end before major troubles start, so a one year warranty says it all.

Thanks for being the RV people voice!
RV industry went through a time, make it lighter &
Simpler. At one point they ran out of product that was good & light. And started use no t only even lighter, but cheaper. So light & cheap materials = bigger profits…..
Repairing comes out of profit, sad but try.
The industry became so big, they’re not worried about repeating customers.
Sad part, many would come back and recommend others.

Just as I suspected. The buybacks are being re-sold. Some of these 'new' RV's seem to have issues that would only be found on used. I remember one of your interviews involved a brand new RV that appeared to have water damage to the roof(soft/rotten) that would have taken some time to accumulate.

Here we have a two year warranty on anything electric, motor vehicles, cars, bikes, well you name it. This is standard set by the EU to protect us Customers. If you wreck it and damage it purposely, you also forfeit the warranty of course.
I really just wanted to say I'm a big fan Liz and thank you for letting me follow.

Liz my main question is this: Are these poor folks who are being ripped off by these dealerships filing complaints with their Congressmen, Consumer Affairs.., are they reporting these issues to the Better Business Bureaus?
I did, and yes it was a timely process, but it worked!
I was finally able to get a full refund back on my RV, ripped up the Cease and Desist threatening letters, got the company reported to and accepted by the BBB, and never looked back.
There are MANY ways folks can go after these RV dealers, companies.., and win!

Great video Liz, you are 100% right about the one year warranty. It’s definitely not enough with the money you are spending on these RVs. I own a Tiffin motorhome and would love to upgrade, but with the money I will be spending the chances of getting a lemon is very high. I also don’t want to spend months sitting inRed Bay. You are doing a great job and helping people out with this huge problem in the RV industry. Thank you again

Hi Liz, Have watched your videos for years; I'm a bit late to this one, but as I think the rv companies read your comments too, I will add my 2 cents in.
As the common usage of an rv is seasonal and much less than someone's vehicle:
on trailers: 5 years for all components and systems; 10 years on structural issues.
On motor homes, mileage should be a factor, too, but I have no ideas on a number for how it should limit.
Full timer usage shouldn't void the warranty.
Maybe they would stop using shoddy components like ac units that can not be serviced with coolant.
And a question: if someone purchases an rv and finds it has extensive water damage from sitting on a lot, why isn't the dealer responsible?

Coach House provides a three year warranty on their new motorhomes. Part of the problem with treating a camping unit with a vehicle type warranty is that vehicles have a narrow scope system; the vehicle is used to get someone from point A to point B. Camping equipment and motorhomes have multiple systems such as electrical, propane, plumbing and sometimes hydraulics. People often unknowingly abuse these systems either by overload, stressing or forgetting maintenance, such as inadequate winterization. It is difficult to make these systems “foolproof”. However I agree, the entire RV industry subscribes to the customer quality control method. Make the unit with little QC, and let the customer tell us what is wrong with it. Not good. Quality Control and Quality Assurance departments are expensive, hence why the RV industry has nothing like the QC and QA departments of the aerospace, aircraft, medical and satellite industries.

My thoughts on a warranty….. if RV companies gave you a 36 month Bumper to Bumper Warranty it probably wouldn’t help many of the dealers are so busy it will sit on their lot. I found taking your RV to a reputable RV Repair shop to do the warranty work was easier. They call Thor (mine was a Thor motorhome) ask for the approval to fix the problem. Then it got fixed and Thor sent the check to the repair shop. I was able to make an appointment to have it fixed. I scheduled the appointment was there at 7am and waited for the repair. It was a win win for us and the repair shop. Most people with a brand new Unit think they have to take it back to the dealer. Not true! RV repair shops ( most) will honor your warranty.

I agree 100% with you Liz and I have never owned an RV I mean my step dad had a pull along while I was in high school 25 years ago or longer. I know a bit about them but not as much as I do now since I’ve been watching these RUclips channels. Yes they should stand by their products more than a year it’s ridiculous and they need to slow down on pushing Rv’s out to get some many of them to stay in competition with other RV dealers maybe they should require RV’s only by special order and just make all the different kinds but DON’T sell them only for show and yours has to be special orders so it’s done slower and put together better and more efficiently because the way they pump them out now all junk

Another thing about warranties... I think they should be extended for the amount of time an RV is in the shop. They keep these things so long that people don't even have time to make use of their warranty because these shops hold onto them so long that by the time people get their RV's back, the warranty is up. Shame on the RV industry for doing this to people. Of course they don't want everyone wanting all their money back.
