I’m a Sinner fan but I really enjoyed watching Shelton’matches in this tournament. I honestly don’t understand the hate around this player, he has a great attitude and a lot of energy on the pitch. He also gives one of the best analyses in the post-match interviews. Keep up the good work Ben, from now on you have a new italian supporter (when you don’t play against Sinner of course)
@Matteo97 I can respect your comment, and I appreciate it. Ben-Ton will always face the heat. We know why. Sin-Sin a beast, and they both are great for the game. 🙌🏿👏🏿🤣✌🏿
Yeah he definitely made some mistakes in the past but sometimes we forget how young these athletes are and it’s not easy to remain so humble as Sinner when you start having success. Now he is 22 and it seems he has become more mature. It’s a pity that a lot of people still judge him for that.
Maturity beyond his years. Love how he is quick to diffuse drama with his responses. He looks so sad in this interview though - hopefully over the coming days he will realise how well he played and recognise the areas that need improvement. Top 10 before year end
sad, i don't know I would say that. I mean, anyone who loses isn't happy, but he was very realistic about his game and how things unfolded today. There's no sadness there.
He played well first and 3rd set, had chances. But, Sinner is the best right now, hands down. He reached 2 semis already at his young career, kudos. Keep pushing, Vamos!
I like this guy’s personality. Hope he finds more consistency to complement his aggressive style. Fewer errors especially when he is already in position
Yeah you could see him hesitate on the forehand on some big points or just go berserk in the wrong moments. Still, he showed some interesting tactics that can make Sinner uncomfortable. The lefty slice, slowballing, variety.
Ben always shares his deep thoughts about his own prons and cons, also talks some valuable things about his opponent from a professional view, being honest to himself is very important along his career path. Hope he keep the momentum and push for more bigger results, his game has really improved a lot❤
Hoping to see this guy a lot in finals this year. Respectful but bare bones honest...joyful AND competitive...my new favorite? Hard to replace Rafa for me, but between Carlos and Ben I've found MY joy in being a tennis spectator again. Nice interview. These reporters should give a master class to those folks from Channel 9. Coverage should enhance, not demean, what the players give us.
Channel 9 has some brilliant commentators and some average ones, like all of the international tennis broadcasters. The on-court mini-interviews are meant to be playful and congratulatory, whilst the major interviews are behind closed doors without the crowds and give the players the chance to talk in-depth.
This match was way closer than the final result suggests. I think Sinner didn’t play his best tennis today and Ben was very close to put things in his favour in many parts of the game. Small details make a huge amount of difference in tennis. There is nobody better than Sinner at game management at the moment. His ability to be strategic and calm in the toughest moments is unbelievable. This allows him to get out of trouble even when he is not at his best.
Tennis is a mental and physical game only the stronger one will fight to the end but Ben you got that fight in you is just a matter of time for it to come to the surface ❤
This guy has got so much stamina, energy, and passion in his game. He played so well. Sinner is a psychological player. He can tweek out any players weak spots and just use that against them (reminds me how Serena played). Ben is more physical. Just keep watching Sinner and I'm sure one day you will reach the finals Ben. You played well🎉
Ben just couldn't close out the first set and when he didn't do that, I knew the match was over. Sinner would not give you any more chances. All the best next time.
Wishing him all great things. Like how open and self evaluating he is. Definitely an open and self aware guy. Great guy who is going to be one of the greats of all time I hope
It seems to me that he is still not aware that he just played the best returner in the world. He keeps blaming himself for his serves when in reality they would've worked against others but not against Sinner.
One of the best players here in the 🌎 I hope he sees his enormous abilities as an athlete and a great young man. Thanks for your talent for many to watch.
I think Rune is still a more complete player and more consistent across surfaces, but I like Ben's work ethic and attitude a lot more. He also has much better mental strength than Rune.
Ben's interviews are very insightful. That's another side of him I like apart from his presence on the court and his game, which is improving. Go Ben..!
He reminds me so much of Fernando Verdasco, Great Big serve when its on its on, high risk play with alot of unforced errors, when he find tunes his game and does more flattened Forehands boy oh boy do we have an even more exciting lefty on tour (hes already an exciting lefty)
I hope Ben reads this message, he not only can become top 5 in the world as he can make history. From a racket player to another this was an obvious mental choke at 6-5 which he needs to know how to overcome. This is a very typical mental process when the under-dog plays a top seed at this time in the match. The top seed does not panic over the possibility of loosing his set because he knows how strong his game is, on the other hand Ben is asking himself a million questions and "doubt" overload takes over focus ! He just needs to overcome this issue so he's game comes out fluid no matter how much nerves are taking over. Be positive, don't overthink it, just play it out dude. You have the technical ability of a champion !!
Everybody can see Ben has the potential yet they forget he’s about 5-7 years behind everyone on tour being on a tennis court. He didn’t pick up tennis until his mid teens. He pushed sinner to the limit in many points but ended up with the error in the end. He mentally needs to be stronger knowing that top opponents will not be an easy pass
Ben please dont beat yourself up, you did a wonderful job in this year Australian Open. You're going in the right direction. ❤ you. You're a great Ambassador for ypur sport. You're family must be proud of you.
Ben Shelton is an up and coming player with a good serve and I hope will keep doing better going forward. Now having said that Shelton should realize that he had a comparatively easy route to the Semis in that he didn’t have to face any of the stronger players.
Sheltons analysis is fantastic , i cam see him coaching or doing tennis commentary when his career ends as he has great analytical skills , i think the key moment was not serving out the set , i mean who wants to be a set down against Sinner ? especially when you are well known for your service game
To address comments below, I definitely understand the "hate" surrounding him, but he is definitely on his way to shedding it. He is maturing nicely. Let's just say that I am soooo glad he didn't beat Djokovic in the U.S. open. He needed some humility.
Sinner returned so many of Shelton’s really wide serves and won the point after the rally. I think Sinner played really well so Shelton has a real chance now to win a major.
Shelton has a vibrant style, a great serve and strong forehand. He is cheerful, communicative, and good for tennis. He will be a North American hope in the big tournaments, but he is a level below Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner and Zverev.
There is an aspect of denial in ensuring that you remain competitive and keep aiming for the pinnacle in men’s tennis. De Minaur has been the only opponent who has been very honest about his defeat. But right now, sinner is handing out beatings. He is at a huge level and has raised the bar in terms of ball striking.
To be honest, Sinner may very well be the best tennis player of all time so nothing to feel bad about. He's basically Federer + Nadal + Djokavic all in one. By the way, loved to see Ben's serve and volley play, especially in the first set.
Excellent play from Ben. If he could have capitalized on some of the bigger moments, I think this match could have gone much differently. Congrats to both players for making it this far in a slam!
I feel like Shelton did a great job this tournament. Like other young players, I feel like he just needs to work on his mindset and focus. I kept seeing how reliant he was on his dad to tell him what to do almost after every single point. It seemed like more of a distraction than helpful. Anyway, he has all the tools to be GREAT and I expect him to do very well this season.
People that hate this guy because of the hangup the phone celebration. he was so young when it happened and all the hype and cheers from his home country crowd probably got to his a little and he expressed his emotion the same way any 20 year old college student would. what’s important is he learned and grew from it which we can clearly see here. he’s talking after a fresh loss so his analysis may not be perfect but you can clearly see the growth in his character

He'll have his chances. He's very good and very dangerous. We saw what he was capable of in most of the first set. Lots of variety of pace and spin which hurt Sinner before he dropped off this tactic and let the match slipped.
You’re a great player Ben, tough one today, take the lessons from this one, use them to improve your already amazing game and come back stronger. Will be rooting for you 💕

Guys, as italian I admit that Ben played a fantastic match, expecially the 1st and the 3rd set, the matter is that at one point Jannik moved his brain to Buddah/Dalai-Lama modality, that was incredible, you could barely watch him leavening from the court. The capability of Sinner to control the stress and start to shot points like a machine in critical situations is out from any logic.
Good job Ben ... maybe next time. I only saw the highlights but my impression was that both of them were not playing their best tennis in the first set. Then Jannik raised a bit his and Ben didn't. The gap is still there as of now. Great final Sunday
At this point the only weakness Jannik has is endurance. If you are somehow able to push him into the 4th/5th rounds, he begins to show signs of fatigue and makes mistakes. But of course, no body has taken him to the fifth set this AO.
Congratulations on your run at the AO. Not one wins always. You will soon. Keep the good fight and trust God it will come to you. You are very young Ben. Have a lot to be proud of. ❤❤❤❤
Are the press conference questions so poor or is it how it appears to me? Many are simply generic, almost off-topic stuff... Is nobody really interested why in the 3rd, he couldn't neutralize an opponent that was clearly suffering physically? Instead of trying to stay in the rallies and make Sinner work for the points, Shelton was making one unforced error after the other, throws airballs instead of hitting winners.
His TB was bad. He was going for too much and making so many errors. I thought his net game was terrific. But he made a lot of errors going big. You have to go big to beat Sinner but missed a lot of shots. I love this kid and his time is coming.
