I love the depictions of both Willie and Tad Lincoln, and the awe that modern children (especially) Jack has for President Abraham Lincoln. Yet, knowing the tragic context of the Lincoln family -- Willie's death in the White House from illness, Lincoln's assassination, the fact that Tad died at the age of 18, Mary Todd Lincoln's disintegrating sanity. This is one that you have let the innocence be what it is in the moment.
Abe Lincoln at Last is one of our family's favourtie books from the Magic Tree House series, and you have read this story with such wonderful compassion and endearment. We laughed when Tad attacked his Pa and Jack panicked; we cried when Annie found out that Willy died shortly after they met... And, as a father, I could feel Abraham Lincoln's emotions along the whole story... Dad Can, you have such a gift of the use of your voice - we cannot listen to this story enough. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind comment. It is difficult to remember all of the Magic Treehouse I have read, but this is one I do remember. That is because when Jack and Annie return to the White House and meet Lincoln as president, what I was reading really struck me on an emotional level, more than any other scene in all of these books.
I am trying to get my hands on some more MTH but I cannot find any in the libraries here in Japan. If I do find them, I will read them. That is funny that your child speaks with a British accent. I tried to do an American accent for Abe Lincoln but I guess I am not very good at that. :-) Please tell your child I say hello.
hi dad can☘️🤩 I love your videos and hope that you can find more magic treehouse books 🕊🌈🦩🌳l am a new subscriber and I love the magic tree house series ☘️🍄🌿 thank you very much 🥰🤩
I love Abe Lincoln in general he has to be one of the best presidents ever to live I’ve been excited to listen to this story It didn’t hit me till the end that I was reminded that one of Lincoln’s children died I actually teared up
I have ordered some more MT books and they will be arriving around the end of the month. I will start working on them then, so maybe around the middle of March I will upload a video.

Hey, Dad Can, sorry I made you more busy- i need to ask you somthing: How did you fell after you finished reading this book? I am a reader too, and after i finshed Magic tree house Dinosours before dark, i felt i was totally free^^ Thanks for making this video. It helps me listen to all of the Magic tree house series. You might be tired. Have a rest. Besids, I suscribed you. Happy reading! 🧸
The ending when they met Lincoln was one of the most emotional parts in the whole Magic Treehouse series. Having read so many of the Magic Treehouse books, I forget some of the details in them, but this is one that I remember clearly to this day because of how it made me feel. I am glad you are reading too and thank you for subscribing. Happy reading to you and sweet dreams!
All my nieces and nephews have a version of it so I just saw so many comparisons to tad and my oldest nephew who has the strongest spectrum of it in family. He's extremely smart and gifted (tested so) but can not stay still and is constantly changing his train of thought unless it about computers ( he could study the different code formats for hours and have to be reminded to take breaks😵) I love his passion but it usually ends up sounding like an unknown language to me. I actually listened to tad introduction with him and he related hard and liked that he was similar to one the best president's kid (his words). I love all 6 of my niblings but the eldest and I have a strong bond I think cause I get the same way about animation though I can focus on anything if I had to so I don't think I'm ADHD myself but I probably am nerodivergent as well as almost everyone in my family (none of the older gen is tested but we all have abnormal quirks.) I'm thinking about getting tested for autism but even if I do have it I live a mostly mentally functional life (physically im doomed but that just other health problems like asthma and autoimmune) so I don't think it would matter much.
@@tiffanyverbeck7041 Hasn't been tested but I am pretty sure my son is neurodivergent. Gets it from his mother. I see a lot of similarities between them. I am glad your nephew related with Tad. That is just another thing that makes this a good book - definitely one of the top 5 in the series.
@@DadCanJapan agreed though my favorite will always be the titanic one though im sure that because of the nostalgia of taking turns reading it with my mom when I was around 4 (one off the reasons I found your channel actually I wanted to reread the series but decided listening to your books with my 3 year old niece on the weekends we have her was more entertaining she adores annie hasn't quite picked up on reading yet but that okay the others started in first grade she probably will too I understand that eldest nephew and I are outliers). I was an early reader like eldest nephew lol. I was reading chapter books at 4, he was reading chapter books at 3 he's 10 now and tested really high IQ in first grade sixth now and in gifted program which we felt was better for him developmentally so he could remain with kids his age instead of way older. He's even told me recently that his earliest and happiest memories are reading Harry Potter with me at bedtime when he mainly lived with me as a 3 year old. Good times, he almost as tall as me now but I still see that little 2 year old reading all the colors on this sight reading book out loud on my old black and white screen nook completely blowing me away and making me forget to finish my homework 😆. But bet your son is thriving though considering he has you for a dad and Japan has one of the best education systems in world.
I just realized I started bragging about him again im so sorry I get so proud of him that I start rambling. I been trying to work on that since I don't want my other niblings thinking I'm favoring him since I adore them also and they are just as brilliant in other ways.

I agree. The knowledge of what actually happened makes this story more poignant.
