    So true! I always find myself balancing the room rather than being myself. This, I think, is why I enjoy being around ENTPs - they're a pretty balanced mix of EF and IT and I always feel more centered around them.

    Balancing the room was a perfect explanation and really captures how some friends describe me differently. I hadn’t thought about it that way.
    Regarding the future of the channel I wanted to give my input and encouragement.
    I found you through the INFJ videos and they’ve been a great resource for contemplation and comfort. A great strength of your videos has been the authenticity you bring. If you keep that, which comes naturally when focusing on your passions, I will continue watching your videos. Please don’t feel trapped to make videos exclusively related to MBTI if you’ve discovered another passion. A channel (and a creator) that continuously develops and grows I find most interesting, and it’s better for your creative spirit. The INFJ videos will always be here, and they will provide context for what you decide to do next, whether that be healing, storytelling, or something more technical.
    I look forward to seeing your future videos.

    As usual this is another ME TOO situation 😅 But let me dig a bit deeper and say its exactly true that we change depending on who we are around and those observing us will have a hard time putting us into one of these categories for sure unless they probably observe us for a long time. I need a lot of time to be with myself and understand my base level energy because around others it's always adjusting. I feel I'm more often on the warmer side and more cold when I'm burnt out haha!
    As for doing other topics, YES please do this! I believe it's a great idea because personally if I know someone like yourself that has a very similar thought processes and views to mine I would always want to hear what u have to say about anything. So I'd also imagine other people who love your INFJ specific content will also feel this way

    Hi Amy, I’m sort of a balanced mix between warm|cool. It very much depends on the environment & the people too. Around other NF’s, I’m warm & calm. With NT’s, I come off more detached & intellectual. In a counseling setting, I’m warm, curious & insightful. Anyway, I like your point that the INFJ label is nice in that it’s the 1 thing that explains our complex nature.

    Amy, for me, your stories are like biting into a rich creamy chocolate cupcake, offered unexpectedly, and yet exactly the thing I was craving. I can taste the flavor and texture of your words, experience the path your thoughts as they naturally flow from idea to idea…like a familiar river, yet one I’ve never journeyed on before. We have so little in common (I’m certainly not a scientist, not young like you, or have a family anything like yours, yet the way your mind works is soothingly familiar. I also experience excitement as you shed a curious light on things I never thought to articulate. Anyway, I’m not articulating it well like you do, but I think what I’m trying to say is- you don’t tell us who we are, how our minds work (like so many other INFJ vloggers) you show us, by allowing us to join you in your mental meanderings. I not sure what to say on warm vs cold, I guess for me it switches quite a bit, though I imagine to there my warmth might seem like a bit of a mask. And that would be accurate. My personality has never felt particularly static, often reflective of my environment or mood. My true warmth comes out when I feel safe, understood, valued and accepted, but that is rare. Anyway - Please keep making videos! and btw your last video (the one before this) on seeing colors (among other things), that was incredible. Love to hear more from you on the metaphysical world, through your eyes.

    I might’ve said before that I find a lot of relatability with INFJs and just assumed I was one after coming across content on the subject a few years back. According to meyers briggs tho… maybe not 🙃
    But I can relate a lot to what you’ve said here. Idk how to quantify it all. The octopus is like a spirit animal, for me. Enigmatic and … can and does blend in with damn well near anything, if and when need be. There are not many people I can really talk to about much of anything important but have plenty of friends… friendly acquaintances but very few truly close. Small talk isn’t quite the arduous endeavor it used to be 😅 but I prefer the alternative…
    I get the impression INFJs have a… kind of Fortean detective pov and approach almost by default, if not by default. That’s also very relatable.
    Looking at things from any number of angles, and some.

    We spend a lot of time balancing opposing forces within us and so it makes sense that we show up in the world as temperature regulators outside of us. For that same reason, empathy comes more naturally because we’ve been in the shoes of both the extrovert and the introvert before. It can be scary for an INFJ who doesn’t know how to meld the internal warm and cool forces, since it starts to get expressed in either a repression of one side over the other (self-neglect /self-bullying), or extreme swings in both directions (borderline).

    I like your temperature setter analogy. I sometimes feel like I am a person who is lukewarm and can definitely appear colder to people who are more extroverted. I dont really enjoy small talk, I am bit of a bad texter (reading, replying mentally, then forgetting to actually respond). Also it is hard to get across that the reason i am quiet isnt because im sad or upset. I just have nothing significant to say at the moment. Just at peace. Lukewarm.

    I feel that I'm warm when I can sense that the warmth will be appreciated/reflected back at me. And if I'm dealing with someone who's a bit cool, it'll take me quite a while to warm up to them, almost like making a broth from scratch.

  • @virpisalmi2932

    I can definitely relate to being the one who tries to balance out the atmosphere. I also think our functions develop and have different kinds of emphasis as we grow older. When I first started to learn about MBTI, I thought for a long time that I was an ENFJ, since I’m quite warm and sociable. But after learning more about the functions (and also meeting a real ENFJ and observing fe-dominant IRL) made me realize I’m actually INFJ.
    And it also makes sense because I have been extremely shy and avoiding groups growing up.
    For me the contradiction between the cool (or even cold) and the warm side of me is that I value harmony so much and I may seem extremely patient and warm outside, but in my mind I’m coolly analytical. And I feel like I’m not as nice in my head as I seem to be outside. If that makes any sense. 😅

    A very interesting question, and one I've been pondering about for a while :') It almost feels that I am... layered when it comes down to warmth and coolness. I have a warm exterior out of my desire to provide comfort for others, covering a layer of the cold I feel encaging my heart from the experiences I went through and the loneliness I feel amidst having people around me due to not being seen or understood for who I am, and within my heart is immense warmth I am saving for someone who actually sees the entirety of me and accepts and loves me for who I am. All of that aside, I do find myself fitting the needs of whoever is around me. If someone wants warmth, I'll be their bonfire. If someone wants cold and detachment, I'll be their never-melting ice.

    On the one hand, I have a dreamy and philosophical side, but on the other hand I also have a rational and pragmatic side. I'm not sure if you can translate these characteristics 1 to 1 into a warm and cold side, which is what is meant in the video. However, I find such a mixture quite useful for my own salvation and finding my way in the world. There are always two different ways of thinking and feeling at work in one person, which keep each other in balance. Towards strangers, I hope I am most likely to radiate a kind of ... calm friendliness towards strangers. But as far as I know, I am an INFP and not an INFJ.😉

    The temperature setter analogy is spot on! I witnessed this yesterday: I was at a football game and was cheering and very alive when I was solo - Then when my Mom came (she is extraverted) I was a bit more cold - Amy do you think INFJ is a true personality type - Ive seen this online lately that the INFJ oersoanlity maybe a trauma response to toxic/unhealthy childhood. What your thoughts?

    • @amy-lyne
      @amy-lyne 2 дня назад +2

      @DearYoungerSelf111 yes, it's funny with my extroverted siblings because they give me permission to chill when they're around ❄️. I've heard that many people experience trauma, which can cause them to default to INFJ traits (intense behavioral observation, imaginative thinking, etc). I think it's true for many people. I think these traits are also a result of being sensitive neurologically. So, its difficult to pinpoint to a single cause

    I think the interesting thing is that we are aware of the temperature and can move it. Even more interesting is when you push the temperature even colder/warmer. When you do that, people will react by pushing the temperature up/down even more until you find the point where they will try cool or warm the interaction themselves.
    Kind of hitting their limits and then adjusting. Then an INFJ could help with the adjustment or press the limits. I think it's part of the intense nature of INFJs when we push the thermometer.

    I think that, as an INFJ, you may naturally feel more comfortable leaning into 'cold', IT types. Doing so will likely protect you from the sometimes messy and undesirable emotions that others may impose upon you. In my experience, 'colder' types are more introspective and/or balanced on an emotional level. You are not cold. You present as someone who is full of warmth. This is why people open up to you. I don't know if there is any way around the fact that your teaching energy inclination redefines you as more extroverted than a 'best fit INFJ' would allow. Therefore, in a professional context at least, I dub thee, ENFJ, Protagonist/Teacher. (for now)
    What about the, 'modestly socially anxious extrovert' concept? (I'm pondering this about myself as well.)

    • @amy-lyne
      @amy-lyne 2 дня назад +2

      My sister is an ENFJ, and we share many similarities of this nature. It would be a new label for me on this channel for sure. Most people think I am an INTJ since I am in tech environments. It's difficult to say, really. It took several months for me to compose an online persona. I think we outgrow these labels at some point, though. As much as I've loved the INFJ communities, I can also sense the strong need to feel special/rare by many of the labelers in the commenters, who take my identity at face value based on what I say lol. This is part of the reason I will be taking a break from the mbti stuff. I think socially anxious extrovert is valid for many with social anxiety.

People would come to me for advice, but it is rare to find someone trustworthy to seek advice for me. At least... that has been my experience.
    Also, how can the INFJ be a rare personality when there are a lot of INFJs online? Perhaps it is because INFJs are the only ones curious about personalities... more than most of the other personalities. Just a rambling thought...
