The reflex to not breathe when submerged in water is also there, an instinct we can re-learn. We just forget about these things unusually quick because our brains are extraordinarily plastic after we're born due to it not being fully developed even for a mammalian infant. The human brain is quick to rewire itself the first two years almost completely.
If you have a cat and a fish tank then have a square grid clipped on top for that reason. It's the same with people who don't screw down their tvs and things as well really 🌟🌟😃😃

Over the next few months he started coming inside, hung out with my other cats, then winter came and he stayed inside all winter. Then spring came and he went outside and never came back. Miss you Binky!

What is strange is that even though cats hate water, their skeletons make them excellent swimmers
its not that they hate it. its just it makes them heavy and easier to smell so makes hunting harder and takes a long time for it dry off too.
