I LOVE the food on all Holland America cruises that I’ve been on, and their services are excellent everywhere on the ships. If you’re looking for going on elegant ships with less hectic environment (kids, crowds etc), amazing & high quality food and excellent services….HAL is your kind of cruise line. Loved the walk through of the Lido Buffet, We have cruised on Holland America the last 14 cruises and on a few other lines. We prefer Holland America as its a more relaxed atmosphere all around. Speaking of the Lido Buffet and the " SALAD BAR !!!!! it is wonderful and my first stop at least 2-3 times a day. The salads are to die for and all the ingredients to choose from are endless ! We don't even dine in the main dining room any longer as we prefer the Lido buffet or the fine specialty restaurants on board which are excellent. You will be well pleased with food selections onboard Holland America ships. Can't wait until we board again.
I really like how the staff serve the food! Stops people from piling their plates unnecessarily and the spread of nasty germs when people don't wash their hands or worse.
Great food on our last Holland America cruise and a great big KUDO to the main dining room staff to stop people from wearing inappropriate clothing at the evening meal! Thank you Holland America!
Pretty much a noob question from me. Can you get as much food as you want, outside of the buffets? (like can same person have multiple starters etc) or even have main core meal plus go the dive in or something like that or is it tracked you've eaten that meal?
WOW......I'm seriously going look at Holland based on that comment alone. Yeah I know I like some decorum - if I go to a nice dining room. At home - right now I'm in shorts and a shirt that would fit two of me. But if I go to a nice dinner - dressing appropriately is just the norm. I really hope Holland doesn't "modernize" and "refresh" before my first cruise!

Excellent videos. I was impressed with two things. First, the quality of the food in general looked better than you find on MOST cruise lines. Second, the presentation of the food was excellent. Unlike many of the other videos where the food is in great need of replenishment, it appears that the HAL staff is really on top of it. I think that the customers who eat in the last hour of the buffet should get the same quality and presentation as the first customers through.
So much food some many choices this is the way a Buffay tour is supposed to be done showing everything and having descriptions of what is being shown plus a great background music top-notch thank you
We are Three Star Holland America cruisers and we think the food is outstanding! Having said that there have been cutbacks that a lot of people wouldn’t notice. This HAS to be done to keep costs down!
My family and I just finished our 7-day Alaska cruise with Koningsdam (our 2nd tours). We noticed food cut back and we had the same foods in the past 7 days. This was our 4 tours with H.A., out of more than 10 with other cruise lines. We also noticed they did not enforce dress code when people enter the dinning room in FORMAL nights.

It's been a year since you published this video. I don't know how I missed it! Anyway, I'm so excited because just this afternoon, a group of friends and I got booked for an Alaska cruise on HAL's Koningsdam. It's just a 7-night sailing, and I've already sailed to Alaska twice, but I'm super excited to try out Holland America for the first time! I can't wait! We're booked for this April. I'm looking forward to seeing how HAL does food. I think all the lines do it differently from each other. It's just Alaska, so I'm hoping the food quality is the same as any of their other sailings. We'll see. Either way, I'm excited to get on an HAL ship, and even more excited I don't have to travel alone this time!!! 😅 ~Scott

BHAN MI, now I would die for a Pork BHAN MI ROLL with Pickled Daikon, Pickled Onion, Coriander, Hot Ho Hot Red Chillies, Vietnamese Mayo, Hoi Sin sauce, Cucumber YEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!
It's not scientific or super-accurate by any means, but we do look at all the buffet food just about everyday, and then we get the sense that certain items were pretty much available daily, while the others were only offered once or twice a cruise.
We went on the Noordam in May and the food was very different. Nothing was labeled, there was quite a bit of Asian food which contained MSG according to one of the cooks and there were not a lot of choices of foods. This video makes it look there are but it is a weeks worth of food. On the Noordam there were no cakes and rarely cupcakes, only pie was apple, lots of mousse which were very bland, lots of fruit tarts and strange dry desserts. Cookies were only put out at lunch so if you wanted them for a late night snack you had to try to grab them before they were gone at lunch and take them back to your room but we found they were often gone before lunch was over. The buffet is not open a lot of the time like on most cruise lines and it's the only place other than the Dive In to eat free. The Dive In food is very good, we enjoyed it more than some of the buffet food. We were not happy with the buffet at all. Breakfast is not the place to go if you are in a hurry. They use a small griddle to cook pancakes, French toast and eggs. That is a ridicules set up on a ship. The dining room is very slow for breakfast. But they do some weird things with their food. I ordered corn beef hash and it came with salsa on top of it, who does that?? The staff is great but we are never sailing with them again.
Yeah things aren't usually labeled at the HAL buffet, though there is a standing menu nearby. And we also wished that the dinner buffet hours were longer. Thanks for sharing your experience! Which cruise line did you enjoy the food better?
We were on the Eurodam a couple years back & had a great time. Food was even better, though with the recent cutbacks it should still be similar to what you saw in the video. After your cruise let us know if it's very different. Have a great cruise!
I love the look of the noodles your wife is eating. Now you are making me hungry. I love the idea of the fine chopped red chillies. I just love chillies full stop and will eat them raw to give myself a boots into outer space. The Spaghetti and Meat Balls also look YUMMO! BTW; that desert you showed and labeled "JELLO" is that made with Gelatin? Looks a lot like the Jelly we have on this side of the pond. I love Jelly. I could eat buckets of it.
It was quite good, and yeah you can customize it to super spicy as they stir fry the chilies for you. Yup that is gelatin/jelly as you would call it. Thanks for the comment & question! 🙂

This food looked a lot better than what we got at the buffet on the Norwegian Spirit (one of their smaller ships) July 2022 . The food in the dining room, of course, was a lot better.
Let see! What do I want to try here for my virtual lunch! I would like the Cobb salad and a custom salad to add to it with a lovely roll with cheese! Then, a custom stir fry as I don't like my veggies over cooked! No need for dessert!

Nice they have Asian-style foods, like sushi and noodles and fried rice and banh mi... Been meaning to take a cruise, mainly for the buffet (haha)... just need to find some free time to do so...
What surprises me, is that a day-stay on a cruise cabin can be low as $50... that's cheaper than a motel stay at $80+ a night... so it's cheaper to take a 5-day or 7-day cruise than stay at a motel for that say 5- or 7-days.. go figure.

What kind of fish used for the fried fish (fish and chips)? Because my dad can’t eat them because he’s allergic to them, I hope it’s just mahi-mahi, if it’s not, he will not eat it.
Granted it's been a few decades since I took a cruise, but the food looks incredibly downgraded from what I remember. We had more of a dining room experience rather than a buffet style of dinning. The only buffet I remember was a midnight buffet every night.
HAL offers the buffet in addition to the main dining room. The main dining room is open for breakfast and dinner every day, in addition to lunch on sea days.
I just finished Alaska trip with Zuiderdam HA .There are food not many kind and choices but still pretty good, I love it.The ship is too old (built 2002) less active for young generation,the crowd service was first day and last turn big deference so disappointed.
@@TravelTouristVideos In general it means that they do not add any natural sugars including honey. The questions that I usually ask is what artificial sweetener(s) are used, if any, to replace the sugar.
I had cruises with HAL in the past and experienced Asian food and notice of Filipino food which is just few choices and not so good although the Filipino crew speaks English and helpful. But Indonesian crew are more accommodating and entertaining. 🤣👏👏
RE: Vietnamese Bahn Mi sandwiches: If it doesn't have pickled daikon radish on it, it's not bahn mi. Not to mention the fact that the bun looked like it was broken and hard to hold.
Seriously need places to offer gluten free Keto options. It’s low carb, sugar free, and gluten free. Great for low carb dieters, gluten free allergy people, and people that require sugar free.
I took my first HAL cruise in February 2020 on the Niew Amsterdam. I have to say for a fairly new ship the food was nothing like on this ship. In fact it was very disappointing. As I watched your video with all the pastries and delicious looking food I was puzzled as to why our food on the Niew Amsterdam was so bad. The breakfast pastries, breads and rolls in your videos looked like they were freshly baked. On our ship they looked and tasted like they had been previously frozen and thawed. Even the other food on our ship was nothing like yours in the video. We gave HAL another chance with a Panama Canal cruise on the Eurodam last fall. The food was better except for the Italian specialty restaurant. The only amazing food we had on both the Niew Amsterdam and the Eurodam was in the Tamarind specialty restaurant. We ate there twice on both ships.

Holland America is almost the reason I never cruised again! Buffets were crowded, crazy crowded. Small drink glasses, no one served you drinks unless you purchased a alcoholic beverage. Putting your dish down and going back for anything meant they cleaned up the plate and others were sitting down??? Dinners were honestly delicious, but if you were a little seasick the best dinners were unfortunately not on the glacier bay tranquil water but instead at the White top waves open seas, just a coincidence??? Terrible noises at 6am every morning from crews cleaning the pool deck! Stay away, no customer service, no apology just tough crap, next time pick a quieter cabin! I did on Royal Caribbean, been on six cruises, all excellent, not cheap but good times.
I don't know what HAL cruise ships you've all been on. The food on our last three ships was very poor. MDR was extremely slow, very low on staff. They ran out of so much, even bottled water !! After Carnivals takeover we won't cruise anymore, the magic has gone, replaced by the mighty dollar.
Sorry to hear that! Which ship(s) were you on and what year? This was from the Nieuw Statendam, one of their newer ships. MDR dinner can be slow so it's a good idea to get there early which is what we recommend.
The food looked absolutely delicious. But I stopped watching when the woman was eating and she had chipped nail polish and that put me right off. Sort of nauseating.
I don't like it. I counted 3 or 4 vegan choices and they looked like boring hospital food. Why is it all about meat eaters??? If I ever go on a cruise, I will so bring my own food. :/
The food was not good. There was not enough. The lines were too l9ng. And there was not enough to drink. We were charged for any drinks otber than ted, coffee and lemonade. And they ran out of lemonade. It was the same menu every damned day. It was not as was described . And not what we paid for. We had better meals on shore. I will not pay extra for a Coca Cola or Ginger Ale. We wasted our money. Do not cruise with Holland America.

Some years back, Holland America's buffet served sugar free almond cake that was to die for. Wondering if they still have it?

Carnival Valor didn’t have much in bread selections and didn’t have as much variety as I thought it would.
Nice they have Asian-style foods, like sushi and noodles and fried rice and banh mi... Been meaning to take a cruise, mainly for the buffet (haha)... just need to find some free time to do so...
Yeah that stir-fry section of the buffet is a favorite of ours 😋
What surprises me, is that a day-stay on a cruise cabin can be low as $50... that's cheaper than a motel stay at $80+ a night... so it's cheaper to take a 5-day or 7-day cruise than stay at a motel for that say 5- or 7-days.. go figure.

What kind of fish used for the fried fish (fish and chips)? Because my dad can’t eat them because he’s allergic to them, I hope it’s just mahi-mahi, if it’s not, he will not eat it.
It's probably cod, but you can ask a crew member there to be sure.

Granted it's been a few decades since I took a cruise, but the food looks incredibly downgraded from what I remember. We had more of a dining room experience rather than a buffet style of dinning. The only buffet I remember was a midnight buffet every night.
HAL offers the buffet in addition to the main dining room. The main dining room is open for breakfast and dinner every day, in addition to lunch on sea days.

I just finished Alaska trip with Zuiderdam HA .There are food not many kind and choices but still pretty good, I love it.The ship is too old (built 2002) less active for young generation,the crowd service was first day and last turn big deference so disappointed.
It all looks bomb. Those noodles look good. I get a little bored with the desserts though.

What does "no sugar added" in these beautiful desserts mean?
Good question! I imagine it means the ingredients have natural sweetness. Maybe they put honey or something I'm not sure.

@@TravelTouristVideos In general it means that they do not add any natural sugars including honey. The questions that I usually ask is what artificial sweetener(s) are used, if any, to replace the sugar.

I had cruises with HAL in the past and experienced Asian food and notice of Filipino food which is just few choices and not so good although the Filipino crew speaks English and helpful. But Indonesian crew are more accommodating and entertaining. 🤣👏👏

RE: Vietnamese Bahn Mi sandwiches: If it doesn't have pickled daikon radish on it, it's not bahn mi. Not to mention the fact that the bun looked like it was broken and hard to hold.

I went on this ship in Dec 2019 and the found the food very disappointing. We did like the speciality steak restaurant.

All the food. It may have been due to the fact that the crew was new but overall not impressed. I much prefer Celebrity.

Seriously need places to offer gluten free Keto options. It’s low carb, sugar free, and gluten free. Great for low carb dieters, gluten free allergy people, and people that require sugar free.
They do have some of those options- a crew member can help if you don't see something that fits your dietary needs.
No Chinese or Asian style foods with 2 cruises lines seems like so far???
Almost the same food that Carnival ships have and pay less to be on Carnival ships goes to the same places 🍷🍪🥧🧁🍚🍿🍾🥗🍔🍕🌭🌯🍤🍝🫕🍽️

I took my first HAL cruise in February 2020 on the Niew Amsterdam. I have to say for a fairly new ship the food was nothing like on this ship. In fact it was very disappointing. As I watched your video with all the pastries and delicious looking food I was puzzled as to why our food on the Niew Amsterdam was so bad. The breakfast pastries, breads and rolls in your videos looked like they were freshly baked. On our ship they looked and tasted like they had been previously frozen and thawed. Even the other food on our ship was nothing like yours in the video. We gave HAL another chance with a Panama Canal cruise on the Eurodam last fall. The food was better except for the Italian specialty restaurant. The only amazing food we had on both the Niew Amsterdam and the Eurodam was in the Tamarind specialty restaurant. We ate there twice on both ships.

Holland America is almost the reason I never cruised again! Buffets were crowded, crazy crowded. Small drink glasses, no one served you drinks unless you purchased a alcoholic beverage. Putting your dish down and going back for anything meant they cleaned up the plate and others were sitting down??? Dinners were honestly delicious, but if you were a little seasick the best dinners were unfortunately not on the glacier bay tranquil water but instead at the White top waves open seas, just a coincidence??? Terrible noises at 6am every morning from crews cleaning the pool deck! Stay away, no customer service, no apology just tough crap, next time pick a quieter cabin! I did on Royal Caribbean, been on six cruises, all excellent, not cheap but good times.

This is the buffet. You can go into the main dining room.
I don't know what HAL cruise ships you've all been on. The food on our last three ships was very poor. MDR was extremely slow, very low on staff. They ran out of so much, even bottled water !! After Carnivals takeover we won't cruise anymore, the magic has gone, replaced by the mighty dollar.
Sorry to hear that! Which ship(s) were you on and what year? This was from the Nieuw Statendam, one of their newer ships. MDR dinner can be slow so it's a good idea to get there early which is what we recommend.
The food looked absolutely delicious. But I stopped watching when the woman was eating and she had chipped nail polish and that put me right off. Sort of nauseating.

I saw a lot of meats and veggies---but it's true that Hal makes great pastries and desserts.
I don't like it. I counted 3 or 4 vegan choices and they looked like boring hospital food. Why is it all about meat eaters??? If I ever go on a cruise, I will so bring my own food. :/
The food was not good. There was not enough. The lines were too l9ng. And there was not enough to drink. We were charged for any drinks otber than ted, coffee and lemonade. And they ran out of lemonade. It was the same menu every damned day. It was not as was described
. And not what we paid for. We had better meals on shore. I will not pay extra for a Coca Cola or Ginger Ale. We wasted our money. Do not cruise with Holland America.
