Wow! This was such a good episode. It would be great if you could do more of these where you explain a little bit about your day and the types of visits and patients. It would be very helpful if you could also do short videos on some of the different interventions such as the slide board transfer etc. There are so many different things that come up in home health; this is very helpful. Thank you!
Excited to start my acute care rotation in a month, my entire PT exposure has really only been ortho and sports, and it is so awesome to see the other aspects of PT being highlighted like this! I'm also a big gym rat and former personal trainer but practicing PT in these critical complicated cases get me hyped and overall excited for the field.
Yes and no. You're more so mentioning aspects on the logistical side of the job. Being efficient and effective with paperwork comes with practice and in this day and age.... being good with technology haha. Coordinating with surgeons/medical doctors is a requirement for the job as they need to sign off on our plan of care. That also becomes easier with time but always a hassle as it's tough getting ahold of them/someone you can talk to on their team. Thanks for tuning in!

Hello, awesome video. Could you perhaps clarify how to compute your pay rate for different types of visits using HH's point system? Is there a math calculation involved with this? I hear folks discussing 1, 2, and 2.5 points. What does this mean, exactly? Do you have any resources that you could share?
As a PTA interested in home health I really appreciated this video giving me an insight on what I can expect in the daily life considering family, diagnosis, and how to prepare.

Hi Tony! I'm a physical therapist from the Philippines, and a registered physical therapist in the USA. I'm planning to work in US. which one can you suggest? starting as home health physical therapist or to a clinic?
Impossible for me to shadow HH right now so really enjoy these videos! Couple questions - did you go into HH as a new grad? Did you do one of your clinical rotations in HH?
@@joeylopez1697 to name a few… during my acute care rotation I was really interested in the journey /ongoing rehab those patients had to continue with upon discharge. The autonomy with HH was really intriguing to me. The vastness of patient population you’ll see on a day to day basis and truly no two days are the same. The large difference in pay as well that you get with HH vs any other setting.
@@TonyDo Word. Thank you for your response man! Ever worry about losing out patient diagnostic skills or manual skills? Thats the most prominent negative that comes to mind when I think about going straight into HH. Thanks brotha!
@@joeylopez1697 yes and no. I still use a little of that in home health, but obviously not to the extent as I would in outpatient. Also, more and more research continue to not support manual therapy in the majority of cases and special tests being not so special… so to answer your question again, yes and no haha.
I have been an assistant for 40 years yes I still practice. I ask that you please refrain from using the term "my assistant" we work with you NOT for you
Congrats on doing this that long! Though, it definitely comes down to the PT/PTA and their relationship. I treat the PTAs I work with respect and let them do their thing. The direct PTA I worked with during this video I had a great relationship with and she would use the term “his assistant” when talking to others so I think I’m okay here.

I feel like you have so much knowledge. Did you learn all of these things (including paperwork and working with surgeon and such) in PT school?

It’s a home health EMR on a phone or tablet called home care home base.

Depends on what setting you desire more and patient population you’d like to work with?

Yes, I went straight into HH as a new grad! No, I did not get to have a HH clinical rotation as a student.
