- There's another new railway station on the network! Time to head down to Exeter in Devon, as Marsh Barton open up and joins the railway network. There was a press event on the day before the first public train ran, for which I also got up early for ...

I think I've mentioned before but its great the train operators and even Ministers appreciate RUclips as a recognised platform for getting thier messages across and engage.
👍 to Geoff for his engaging interview technique. Conversational but still asking probing questions.
Thanks Geoff.
Pleasant surprise to bump into you! Glad you love Devon as much as I did! ❤
HI Jen :)
You both have impeccable taste 😅
Your gonna have to keep an eye on Geoff at the next openings Jen lmao just incase he acquires your coffee again 😂
@@geofftech2 sorry Jef 😂
I love that you get so many people in from Ben to the Managing Director to the Secretary of State! And you treat them all the same. That's what makes your videos so great.
And that, boys and girls, was how Geoff managed to run off with Jen's coffee.
I saw Jen's video yesterday (Tue 4 Jul) and she filmed their brief encounter on the platform, so I was waiting for it in Geoff's.
@@rosiefay7283 Yup, so did I...😄
In Jen's video you see him returning the coffee! 😎
@@geofftech2naughty geoff
But at least you gave it back
The rail connection to Tavistock was promised to get planning for 3000 homes through. Nearly ten years on, no railway and lots of congestion which isn't being relieved by any new public transport. I'm not holding my breath on getting it any time soon.
Tavistock to Plymouth would be great because for me in Okehampton a bus to Tavi then a train to Plym would be better than a train all the way to Exeter then all the way to Plymouth.
Hi 👋 Geoff just watched it with my family and a friend and taking my enabler to see Marsh Barton tomorrow. Thank you for everything and hope to see you again! Ben
You were great Ben! What a day it was!
Many of my friends love you Geoff and I do too. You have a fabulous style and verve which is such fun and fantastic for us in love with trains and the network. Little did Beeching know what a cult he wood create. He has immortality for doing absolutely the wrong thing. All the best Alex
Disappointed they didn't get you a custom badge that said "Marshall Barton"
we can still stick a post-it note on one of the station name signs. with ALL behind the Marsh part.
(only a post-it note as whe should not vandalise it.)
Don't give him ideas lmao he'll prolly make a shirt with it on 😅
lol
Or should it be Marshall Barton? Great video as always, can't wait to visit when I'm in the area in a few weeks.
Wow that’s took a while to build… I completed the original topo survey for the construction of marsh Barton in like 2015 😊
covid got in the way
I do like your videos. I am British living in France and your videos bring me some of the good things about Britain............😀 The "suits" are so awkward...and funny ha ha !! You are 'cool'!
Brilliant video Geoff and was a surprise to bump into you at Marsh Barton on the 1st train as well, nice to see you again Geoff.
Nice seeing you, Geoff and Jen in the same video
Great stuff, Geoff. I went to uni in Exeter and this will really help as the traffic is awful around Marsh Barton. The new station is also close to the Double Locks, a really good pub on the Exeter ship canal - if you take that little lane, you will get there! The train will be a game changer for uni students who don’t want to walk that far too the pub! 😜
Genius 😂👍
From memory, it was the walk back that was usually the problem!
@@Hershie - I’m surprised you have any memories of the walk back 😜
@@MrGreatplum you gotta be awake enough to not fall in the canal.
I don’t know why but I always get excited about the news of a new railway station opening up. Maybe because when I was young they kept closing down. Thank you for yet another fun and professional video. Keep safe.
I was riding this this line so much as a child, usually from St James's Park. I miss it a lot. There is (or was) quite a gap between St Thomas and Starcross. So this station was a good idea. Should have been built ages ago.
Amazing that you managed to talk with both the transport secretary and the boss of GWR in one video! Also, have you ever done a 'World Cup of Train Liveries' , a bit like the tube lines? Maybe I'm biased because Exeter/South Devon is my neck of the woods but I really think GWR is the best!
I'm from Birmingham But I do agree that GWRs Livery is the best and sadly Geoff I agree
@@geofftech2 Just as long as your scroll limit hasn’t maxed out 😂😂😂.
What would a world cup of tubes be. The best of each continent. Minus Antarctica. Kind of like the old decks of car and planes.
@@geofftech2 it should really just be a yt community thing since twitter broke
GWR even has the best logo
Happy days, more trains, railways and stations please!
I went to Dawlish on the train last summer when on holiday in Exmouth, good to see they've finished it. (Also went to Exeter on the train too, fantastic route)
It's beautiful. Used it all the time as a child. Unfortunately, my nan's house in St James's Park is now a student let which is a bit depressing.
Very excited for Cullompton station as that is my local, looking forward to it :)
wait what
Love that this is a new station on my hometown rail network in Exmouth
Look out for the opening of Headbolt Lane station “opening during Summer 2023” that will extend Merseyrail’s Kirkby line by an extra stop. The new class 777 trains will use battery power on this short extension to the Northern line. 🙋🏻♂️
Good report, of course. Appreciate the facts and the passion. A++
Excellent video as always Geoff. Need to visit this new station when I'm next down Exeter way, I can confirm and tell you that 'Thanet Parkway' has been given the go ahead to open on the 31st July so do keep that in mind, keep up the awesome content 😊
Thanks for an interesting video Geoff. This station will be great for walkers along the Exe estuary, giving more options for longer out and back walks. It'll be good for business at the lovely Double Locks Inn, now just a 10 minute walk from the station. The Double Locks is a pleasant half hour walk from Exeter Quay along the old Ship Canal. I can see some people using the short cut after a good lunch!
Aunt lives in Okehampton, old railway line to Tavistock runs behind her garden as a cycle route, that would be a very popular link if they built a station again mid way between the two (Bridestowe) 😊😊😊
Great video Geoff. Exiting to watch. Glad to see they have put a time table at the station.
I live only just down the road from Marsh Barton Station can't wait till go on it another great video Geoff and the walk along the new sea wall from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish is amazing
That Dawlish stretch along the coast is one of the most fantastic rail routes on the network
Lovely to meet you on Tuesday Geoff, and thanks as always for the amazing video!
Great they are building new stations. Its important they keep on improving
Just stopped off at this station and thought it looked familiar then I realised it’s because I watched your video on it. Very cool 😊
Accessible parking only park and ride infrastructure is something I never thought of, but makes sense.
Yeah - but why not step free platforms?
I would guess that would mostly be due to limited space and access concerns - although given that the station sits in a 'to' location, I wouldn't have thought there would be great demand for parking anyway.
Seems a good solution to locations that have no space for a carpark. But the danger of rolling that out extensively is the congestion of "drop off" traffic (witness schools!) Or people dumping their cars on residential streets. Needs selective use.
@@roginkI yearn for the day that stations do like Thameslink with their raised platforms and mean I don’t need a ramp. The day I used Thameslink for the first time and didn’t have to have help getting on/ off the train I cried. I was like any other passenger and it’s such a simple solution that could surely be added to every station platform? Doesn’t affect the use by able bodied people so it’s a win win.
What are you talking about It makes no sense at all.
If you don't allow people to drive to their local station and leave their cars there then they are way more likely to just drive to their destination.
Great to have such an enthusiast and a person that is so passionate about the topic of public transit and railways. It helps us, as non UK'ers, to get familiar with updated information as a tourist to the UK. Although it is stressful to produce videos (the algorithm machine), each one is worth it! Many thanks for your continued dedication to informing and entertaining us.
Thank you very much! Most kind!
I just went on a walk today by the canal and I saw lots of trains. Mostly GWR and I saw 3 cross-country trains as well. I was really excited to see the trains going past. They pretty much did follow the 30 minute services like you said, I was checking my watch when I knew another was going to come past. Thanks for inspiring me to follow my interest in trains Geoff. I've learnt to not care what others think and just enjoy what I love doing
Greetings Geoff. Thank you for the review of the new station. James.
so many stations opening this year
The two bridges on Marsh Barton industrial estate are where they practiced the Pegasus Bridge operation. I used to drive over them a lot so I would always yell "Ham" and "Jam" at the appropriate moments.
I love how far your videos have come. I remember when you first started making videos for Londonist, Specifically the 'secrets of the underground' videos is what drew me in the most. Then when you started doing your own channel doing videos about: new trains, new stations and EVERY SINGLE STATION it really shown your determination to the railway and keeping people up to date using a platform so heavily used. I appreciate your videos and cant wait to see what comes next!
All the best,
Jack
Good to hear Wellington and Cullompton mentioned. I'm on the design team for those two stations. Can't wait to see you visiting a project I've worked on, tho they are a way off starting construction yet
That was the recycling bin that Geoff used, I hope it was a recyclable item!
Mike Parker Bray! Yay, you interviewed Mike, hes great. Very good at getting people to use trains.
Great video and good see you in Exeter
Great video Geoff. I will travelling through Marsh Barton this Friday, so seeing this video in advance is a real bonus.
Oh Geoff, wish I knew you were coming! I'd have got you on BBC Radio Devon to talk about the excitement of having a new station! 💔 Darn
@@geofftech2 That would have been my colleague Michael I expect! I have to stay in the studio to do my show to reduce the possibility of me interacting with real human beings.. 😂
These videos are a dream for me and I’m sure many others. I have autism and this is honestly such fantastic content. Geoff Marshall, you legend.
Great to meet you at Dawlish last week Geoff. Apologies, I had to rush off to catch a train! Yes, we have several new stations opening in Bristol area in coming years . Keep up the good content👍🏻

10:38 Ridiculous o'clock 😂. Well said, Geoff. And thanks for the video!
i love that your're in devon now SO COOL
Love the mini interviews!
I love these videos, and this one starts off my working week with a smile 😊
that does look like a beautiful run down to the coast.
I THOUGHT I HAD SEEN YOU IN THE PICTURES!! i’m so jealous that i couldn’t come on the first day as i clearly missed you! you should come and pay a visit to the pacers on the plym valley line!!
Thank you for sharing the video Geoff that was very interesting. ❤
Wonderful video, as always, Geoff! Love your enthusiasm! 💚
And happy to see Rob again! Was just wondering the other day if he'd ever show up in one of your videos again 😄
Great to see another new railway station on the map!
What an outstanding video on the newest station. Such a beautiful area! I always appreciate your videos.
Love your videos Geoff always brings a smile to my face
Always fun times on the gwurbos. Great video as always
As always Geoff, another great video!
It's unfortunate that we didn't get to hear from Rob and what he thought of the new station, but as always it was wonderful to see him.
Like many others who have left comments, I loved the fact that you got so many people on camera talking about the new station.
Just as an aside, something new that we have here in Mississauga, Ontario that's been pretty common over there is that now, we have the number of coaches on our commuter trains noted on the indicator boards. About time!
Great to see the proposed new Cullompton station having a mention.
Very nice. I still haven't been down that way by train, or even done Reading Green Park (or Reading West for that matter).
Now to update my spreadsheet for the total number of stations, before I forget.
Ok it is quite cool that Geoff Marshall interviewed the transport secretary on RUclips.
Great to see the network expanding, shame the platform is not level with the trains ... not even a level section as seen on the London Underground.
Blame the discrepancy between standard platform height and standard train height
I hope you traveled down to Exeter on the SWR 159 class so you could have a comfortable ride from London!
Hi Geoff,
Well done with this video, it always amazes me how you manage to get to interview the head honchos...so well done again on that score...I watched Jen's video last night, that was pretty cool seeing all the now well known Railway You Tubers...it certainly makes for a fun life-style...
All the best,
Jon B.
Very interesting and informative. A great video to watch.
Great video Geoff kinda wish I came down to see you that morning as I live close down the road from marsh Barton
Geoff Marsh-Barton-hall , great video - thank you!
Good stuff as always Geoff!
As always your videos make me smile😊
Thanet Parkway opens 31st July, and tickets went on sale on 1st July. Most of the time, it's only being served by SE High Speed services though, with only "with peak" calls (i.e. towards London in the morning and from London in the evening) on Charing Cross/Cannon Street services.
I worked 10 years in Marsh Barton. This would have been sooo useful!
Great Video. We need more new Stations in Yorkshire.
I shall be heading down that railway line in a few weeks time. Look forward to seeing the new station though no doubt the train will be zooming through at 70MPH+
I was surprised to see that Ashley Down is nearing completion. I only ever thought that it was at the idea stage and would take a Portishead branch length of time to get built so look forward to your opening video from there.
NOOOO I just missed you. I was on the second train into the station and you got onto that train. Meaning as you got on the train, I was getting off. Also when you came back to Marsh Barton later on the class 158, I was getting on the train heading towards Paignton. I am annoyed that I completely missed you 😭
Ever heard of public service case, Harper...?Didn't think so...put on the trains and they will come 😊
Monday's weather was much better than Tuesday morning when I was able to visit the station and it got wetter by the hour. This is a neat station with facilities to match. The step-free walk between platforms must be one of the longest on any station but then who is likely to hop from one platform to another? Yes, the pong from the waste plant next door is unpleasant but at least the waste is being used productively. While having a look around, I did wonder if the additional exit ramp is a mandatory feature of new stations - Reading Green Park has one, for example. It does seem excessive when you consider the likelihood and consequence of something happening there and someone being on the platform. Not much more to say other than the usual 'thanks' for sharing your vid, Geoff.
Clicked like before watching. If it’s Geoff Marshall then it’s going to be good
Waves at the Marsh Barton Badge Lady ...
Hi again Geoff!! Was nice to meet you :)
Nice one Geoff can't wait for Brent Cross west
New idea Geoff. Every least used station for each TOC
I grew up near Dawlish and I remember that the line seemed to get washed away in wnnter storms quite regularly.
Lovely little aside re: the old LSWR line connecting Tavistock with Plymouth and Okehampton. Tavvy (as the locals know it) is a pretty big market town on the edge of Dartmoor. The line wouldn't connect at Gunnislake as suggested, but joins the Tamar Valley Line at Bere Alston, for Plymouth. The sticking point for the Northern Section to Okehampton would be the Meldon Viaduct, which is a wrought iron truss bridge, not entirely fit for modern DMUs. Anyway, one can dream.
it's crazy how much money is going into lines and stuff that shouldn't of been closed down decades ago!
great vid Geoff as per :)
Lucky to have a line which hardly suffered station closures at all and consequently already has a stopping service to lock in to. Corsham, just to take one different case, has a growing population but no stopping service available. It would not be popular to add another stop on the Paddington to Bath service!
Fantastic video...i wish RUclips had smellivision as it would help portray the whiff of fresh bin juice 😂
Awesome Video Geoff
You are 40min from me im in totnes. Nice to a new locsl station
Great Video Geoff .. loved that you included your two little trips down to Dawlish and back .. one of my favourite places in Devon .. nice shots of the recently opened part of the sea wall .. but missed off a view of the still to be completed lifts & accessible access bridge at the station there .. been watching “beach cams man’s” update videos on Dawlish Beach Cams RUclips channel .. was last down there myself at beginning of May this year.
"Build-it, and they will come", said Kevin Kosher. . . . .but he hadn't seen Marsh Barton (And similar others).
Just imagine a daily commute which started or ended with that. . . . . after a couple of months you'd happily self-suspend under one of the arches of Blackfriar's Bridge
Good you mentioned the smell, it’s a shame there wasn’t really another good option of where to put the station!
It doesn’t seem to have made it on to National Rail Enquiries, (on Friday three days later);although it is on an independent rail planner .
GEOFF CHO CHO POEM
Where shall we go with Geoff today
Underground or overground
Geoff will guide us on our way
Quickest routes with a friend
The master of tube map knowledge
As we play along with station bingo
So how many stations are step free
How many stations are there left to go
From Scotland all the way to New York
Calling at 'all the stations' along the way
We're loving all angles of your video work
Who knew there were so many maquettes
So thank you Geoff Marshall for all you do
Helping commuters with their train experience
Seeing the places we might never travel to
And now we say farewell as your train is due

Great video, Geoff.
You should change your name to Geoff Marsh Barton! 😂
It would be great to see a follow-up from when you last visited Thanet Parkway while under construction.
Yes finally is only taking them 30 years to do this.
Welcome back to Exeter.
Hello, have been following you for a number of years now, and love your videos..
I am curious though - you never seem to talk about the Beeching Cuts - and you don't seem to mention if lines are being re-opened/rebuilt/realigned from that era.
I know you are a busy person - but curious if you would / could / thought of doing a video where you 'visit' each lines that were closed from Beeching and have since been re-opened recently and the rational from the idiot who closed them to the rational for their re-opening today.
Like this idea 🙂
Great video as always geoff love the adhd in you wirh the disappointment that a you wasnt the first bin user and b that you didnt buy the first ticket 😅 keep up the great work as always and i think youll have to sign a disclaimer after running off witj Jen's costa for next openings lol 😅
Exeter Metro takes another baby step forwards. The big win (and spend) will be getting some resilience - and increased capacity - between Pinhoe and Honiton.
