You missed the most relevant point. Nederland has the most important company in the world. ASML. I'll leave you to find out why.....

Windmills were used for making and keeping the land dry. But they were also used to grind grain and most important for cutting wood. The last one did make the netherlands capable to build ships very fast which made them the biggest trade nation of their time(golden age)

Calvin was from Geneva Switzerland. He was very popular in the Netherlands and Flanders. In Flanders the Spaniards held power, so everybody had to be catholic again. But in the Netherlands, after the longest war of independence in human history, Calvinists became the dominant elite religion (most people were Catholics, by the way).

It was what the war was about. The union of the Northern Netherlands, the Union of Utrecht, was based on the freedom of conscience (for how to serve god). That became the de facto constitution of the Dutch Republic. So contrary to Calvin himself, the Dutch calvinists in charge of state always practiced religious tolerance.

As a Dutchman, I find it no problem you call my country Holland. I'm from the province of Utrecht. But most of us Dutchies say we are from Holland. Just listen to our chants in football matches! And our language is Dutch. Not Netherlandic! That's important if you speak to us in English. We ourselve call it 'Nederlands'. Perhaps more like you are used to say it in Italy. 👍 And yes, we are tall. I"m 6,3 ft. 1.92 meter, and I don't even stand out in the public. It keeps me from drowning when the dikes break.😂😂😂😂

Calvin was born in France but lived most notably in Geneva in Switserland. He was very influential on dutch protestantism but as far as Iknow never visited the Netherlands.
There are a few inaccuracies in that video.
1 the dutch are not all catholic. They are traditionally mixed protestant (calvinist) and catholic. The uprising in the 16th/17th century was partly about faith. The originally liberated areas became protestant. Cities who voluntarily went over to the side of the uprising usually remained mixed. Near the the end of the war quite large areas were conquered that were allowed to stay catholic.
In the past 55% of the population was protestant and about 30% catholic.
2 They did not really buy Manhattan. They more like exchanged gifts to show good will to found a trading post. The natives did not really know the concept of land ownership so they didn't really care about that. Expansion of he colony and adding agricultural land had to be negotiated with the natives. They did not care too much about that little piece of land, as long as their lucrative trade in pelts would not be undercut. From the dutch side the main care would be to keep peace with the natives and stay safe.
3 The dutch didn't just give away the colony because they didn't care. It was a thriving and profitable venure but they were still small and poorly defended and were intimidated out of their rights. Later the English gave them some posessions in South-AMerica in return.

People living in Noord- and Zuid-Holland can say they are from 'Holland'. Other people living in othe parts of this amazing country should say 'I'm from Netherlands'❤❤❤❤

The carrot thing is only sort of true. There where already oranje carrots, we didn't crossbreed purple with white or something like that. But as far as I know, we did cultivate the orange carrots to become much more "bright". So, we did create/cultivate the carrots as they are now. But didn't create a new kind.

    Hup! Hup! Holland . . . . .🌷♚🌷
    Viva Olanda . . . . .
Basically, i agree that Holland is a small country in west Europe but it's so amazing, special and powerful one. Especially in Economy, multinational enterprises and sport.
As far as i know that Holland is always included in Top Ten of Olympic games.
Our country Indonesia is one of the Dutch colony in this world. So the relationship of both states are like brotherhood, so good and closed.
As Italy, Germany, UK and France, our country Indonesia is also the member of G20.
Duizends maal Dank / Grazie molto

The video forgot to mention "Dutch Low Saxon", which also has been officially recognized as a spoken langue. The English take over of NYC had more to do with The Dutch being at war with France, which exposed pretty much all of the Dutch colonies, so it wasn't due to a lack of care. What I notice with a lot of these "The Netherlands" videos is that use British historical accounts and no the Dutch own accounts.
