I'm surprised you didn't mention the origin of Tails - Sega of Japan wanted to call him Miles Prower (like MPH) but Sega of USA wanted the name Tails! They compromised on Miles "Tails" Prower which means the pun was butchered and made no sense to me or the rest of my peers when I first played Sonic 2!
Sonic was never actually called "needle-mouse". It was a simple translation error as the individual Japanese characters for "needle" and "mouse", when put together make "hedgehog".
11:06: No kiddin'. In the Sega Master System version of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, if you don't collect all the Chaos Emeralds by the end of the game, it looks like Tails has died, with Sonic mourning him during and after the ending credits. Unintentionally, mind you, and it wasn't actually the case, but that's still a punch to the soul.
I feel like most Brits grew up with the Kintobor story. Unfortunately, I also think a lot of people who hate on the franchise don't know all the really good handheld, mobile, and Wii games that came out while the higher end consoles had some questionable games.
I did know about the master system verson of sonic as its the one I had! I dont remember it looking so bad though lol. There is also Sonic 2 on the MS aswell!
His real name is Nicholas and got the Sonic nickname from his grandmother. She would always ask, "so, Nick, when are you going to get a job, find a nice girl and settle down?"
"10 things you didn't know--" Gotta stop you right there, buddy. I have no life and have been hyperfixated on Sonic since youth. I know all of these things. Also the fleetway comic isn't canon to the games. So the origin story you outlined isn't actually a reliable origin point for Sonic in relation to the game canon. ;P
I'm the same, but it was cool to see them taking on a topic I personally invested a large part of my life on. I do love the Fleetway comics. Their version of Super Sonic is great. Also I'm sure a fellow no lifer also knows this but to anyone else: the backstory given actually is based on the "Sonic Bible". A short document, including almost this exact storyline, that was made to give Sonic more context internally at Sega. It has since been removed from the Canon though. I'm glad that's not the actual origin though.
Motion sickness is the very reason, I quit playing Sonic after 5 minutes, swore to never touch a Genesis again and went back to playing Space Invaders on the Atari 2600 which I was doing when I had the stupid ider to try the Genesis in the first place.
Needle Mouse is the literal translation of the word Hedgehog Japanese. Thats why it was going to be called Needle Mouse. I believe Sonic aged 7 years in the 2 years between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2
I prefer the 8-bit Sonic the Hedgehog games to the 16-bit ones, I'm afraid to say! Sonic "sings" at the end of the Master System version too, so there's a little connection with the rock band there too. :)
I hope some of my fellow Brits or British born also enjoyed reading the children's books as kids! I've still got 3 of the four, and reread them recently.
Love how people ignore and dont give backlash against the human x rabbit relationship in roger the rabbit when bringing up madonna, jessica rabbit and madonna look similar to each other to make a comparison, but instead everybody brings up Elise.
I had a hedgehog when I was very young. I don't remember its name, but I remember we couldn't really pet it. Whenever my siblings and I touched it, it would flinch and start hyperventilating... Not sure why it did that.
That Viking character in the top left of alternative Sonic designs was sick. I'd play the shit out of a little platformer with him as the lead. Like somewhere between Mario and Golden Axe.
11. There's a gene known as "SHH." The full name is "Sonic hedgehog." (Don't Google it though... it causes mutations in humans and leads to cyclopses and stuff...)
Got an even more interesting piece of Sonic trivia? Let us know!

Big props to you guys citing the Sonic The Comic origin story! I loved that comic so much, it influenced me so much as a kid
Ristar is the greatest game Sonic Team ever made and no-one can convince me otherwise. I’m amazed there has never been a sequel
Gotta go fast to bring Mikey his bird seeds 😎

Interestingly, the Sonic 2 is also a totally different game. It's actually a prequel to the Mega Drive version
I didn't know the Master System version of Sonic 1 wasn't the original until today. I always thought the Mega Drive one was a remake.

I never knew how much I owed the Sega intro

I just couldn't imagine a Sonic game without all those loops, twists and turns!
At least the movie Sonic got fixed months after the trailer released.
The archie backstory hasnt really been canon to the mainline since SA2. Other than that, loving the video.
Needle Mouse is the literal translation of the word Hedgehog Japanese. Thats why it was going to be called Needle Mouse.

I played that Master System version as a kid. I loved it

Why apologise for mentioning Master System Sonic 1? It is a good game.
That needle mouse story was b.s. when ask about it the creator of sonic had no clue what they where talking about
Eh...that whole CGI thing seems like a PR stunt to me.
If it is, it's a terrible PR stunt
Knew them all, but still a decent video. 👍

Sorry lads, I'll come clean:
It took me until now to realise Ben & Peter had their own channel. Now Sonic the Manhog exists.

If sonic was a lab accident then how does he have a brother and sister in sonic underground🤔🤔🤔
So it was Dr. Kintobor who first blue Sonic.
Sonic has dozens of origins, just think about sonic and his siblings haha!

Brilliant that the Classic UK Sonic the Comic is getting some love here. Gets over looked so much because people focus on the US Archie comic

These are all good facts about me.Wait who in chaos emeralds told you About this?!
I first played Sonic on the Master System II, the first game system i ever owned.
I had no idea what a hedgehog was as an eight year old with a Sega Genesis. Didn't matter at all cuz the games were great.
