A House Collapses From Lake Michigan Beach Erosion and I shot this 4K Drone Video with my DJI Mavic Air. It was the same house I happened upon last week, hanging off the edge of the eroding beach edge and it has fallen over. The house collapse was caused from Lake Michigan Beach Erosion. Work has started to keep the beach from eroding more but it appears the damage is done at least for this dwelling. A weekend storm brought lots of rain and wind to the area and finally eroded the last of hill that was holding the home up.

@@sifridbassoon the longer ago it was, the less tragic it is now. Some of them built 100+ years ago, these people have had their monies worth. It was always a gamble when they were built as to how long they would last. They knew this was coming, they just did not know when, although there would have been evidence to advise on the expected time it would take. Anyone who has bought or built deliberately close to the edge can only blame themselves.

@first man well these were not built at the edge. Years of erosion and higher lake levels have consumed the shoreline by hundreds If not thousands of feet bring them closer and closer to the waters edge. Odd how hindsight is always 20/20....

Ten to twenty years ago it was probably 75 to 150 ft of beach along most of lake Michigan but it was also record low water levels. Now some decades later, we are at all time high water levels and the beaches are all gone. When this house was built it was a good distance away from the lake and now its in the lake.
