People should treat MTG as a game, the way that Richard Garfield has envisioned, not as an investment. Seriously, MTG is the worst investment you could make.
Now MTG is a bad investment for newer products. The people who got in early ‘cleaned up.’ Do I think the investment element is gone? NO. Do I think people should be cautious as to what they buy? YES.
There are SO many ways to make money investing in MTG, it's kind of tough to just label the whole thing a bad investment. Rudy displays a hard-on for sealed product. That's neat, but it is something that can stop being viable at any time, and we are seeing a decline in that viability already, whether he wants to admit it or claim the opposite. I assume he has admitted it to himself, which is why he "shares" his "secrets"; he isn't sharing, he's trading something of perceived value (obsolete knowledge) for a faster-growing sealed product-buying customer base. Another way to invest is quietly speculating on cards with potential while the market is flooded with sellers. Right after release, and right around rotation from T2... those are the times to FEAST on the undesireables while the prices are supressed and everyone else is eager to part with what you want. I have over a hundred "investments" where I bought up hundreds of copies of cards that were buyable for bulk or close to bulk prices right after the set came out and/or right after it left type2; cards that fairly obviously had potential to spike multiple times in the future. Go check these out, they were all EASY OPPORTUNITIES TO INVEST ALMOST FEARLESSLY: Gitaxian Probe - piled 700, sold down to 400 before the ban Visions of Beyond - piled up 600, sold down to 400 Dismember - piled up 600, sold down to 200 Valakut - piled up 300, sold out Raging Ravine - piled up 300, sold out Celestial Colonnade - piled up 300, sold out Lightning Bolt - piled up 1500, sold down to 1000 Ad Nauseam - piled up 300, sold down to 50 Inquisition of Kozilek - piled up 600, sold out Stony Silence - piled up 600, sold down to 200 Amulet of Vigor - piled up 500, sold out Death's Shadow - piled up 800, sold down to 25 Puresteel Paladin - piled up 500, sold down to 250 Leyline of the Void - piled up 400, sold out And soooooo many more, this is just off the noggin Go ahead, seriously, look 'em up, this is all stuff from well within the past decade, and isn't even close to an exhaustive list. This was all EASY to buy up EN MASSE at CHEAP prices... most for so long that I cut myself off rather than push into the 1000s because then it becomes a pain (or impossible) to get rid of stuff quickly when the time is right. Of course, it doesn't always work out, but if you're diversified you only need about 1 in 10 to spike and you're well in the black... and if you're good at assessing mtg card value and have several years to wait, more than half of your choices should spike.
I have never played Magic in my life, but here I am, listening to you talk about Magic Investing. Even though I am not interested in the topic, I am enjoying the commentary and the different Rudys. I think you are one of my favourite youtube channels.
Nice Video my friend, please do more. I started playing with alpha, so I have always bought 5 boxes with each set that comes out to put away for this very reason. Now I have some value with those old sets. Thanks
I just wish some of the older booster boxes were cheaper so that I could do a sealed draft with my friends of say the Kamigawa block or Lorwyn block, that would be tons of fun since I wasn't around when those came out
This was probably the most interesting video (yet least entertaining) I've seen from you Rudy. Great info on the "inside track" of how you establish value. Thanks!
this is the kind of video that i'd watch but probably have in the background while doing something else, like i'll listen but with you at the chair super casual i'd just look over and there's your smiling face while i do my things. i enjoyed this style of video though for sure
I usually put your videos on in the background for some light, moderately interesting entertainment. I couldn't look away from this one. Very interesting, very informative, very little filler.
I love what this channel has become. I watched your first video when you had 100 subscribers and thought - why the hell does this guy not have more subs. Glad I was right.
This format is awesome. It allows me to consume your content while still playing a game. Even when I watched some of it, it was awesome. Seeing you in a more calm light was cool too. Keep up the good stuff. (I was also curious if you had seen a bigger growth after getting your channel back, from the other RUclipsr publicity)
I really enjoy this style of video. I do a mineral and gem business and I reference your videos all the time... when it comes to eBay and market watching stuff that is.
This video is great! Absolutely love it! I am just walking around my house with my wireless headphones and this is great to listen to while doing chores. I would like to see more of these videos!
Rudy! I have 2 sealed Eternal Masters Boxes that I purchased from my local game store for $300 each on release day! What do I do with them to retain the most value and mitigate losses? Hold them for years? open them and hope for $600 in value of cards? That re-print killed me, I'm just a player who likes to hold sealed product 50% of the time, and open and play 50% of the time.
Great video. I don't mind the occasional box opening, but it's videos like this that keep me coming back. Also, I'm joining the patreon tonight. March starts with an M. Modern Masters 2017 confirmed for Patreons.
We're here for the numbers Rudy- the more the better! Actually stopped watching this video initially to watch it when I could give it my full attention.
I don't even play magic, but this is so intriguing. For Pokémon, the EX era from the early-mid 2000's and the gen 2 e-reader series are the most expensive and elusive boxes, due to expensive and sought after Gold Star cards and low print runs, respectively.
Like the format would love to see more off these videos, i look at it from a player perspective i want to drive prices down but really usefull info on markets and economy, and how it works
I feel so old. The booster box I ever bought was Exodus. I pulled 5 Oath of Druids...back when that meant something. I was ticked that I didn't get a coat of arms.
Rudy, just spoke to Rocky the owner of Baxters. he said you gave a shutout on his kickstarter page. he made you into a joker card on his deck of cards lol awesome!
I like these personal videos, it's refreshing to see you getting out of one format of video to do other things. Still gotta' call you out on that cut blunder at the end, RudeDude.
An update on this video based on all the crazy stuff that has happened in recent years would be awesome, personally I wonder whether the prices will stay as the highs they've climed to during 2021/2022.
love this kind of video Rudy. Been thinking of keeping track of the movement of older booster box prices on ebay. Think any older box pre RTR under $170 is a good deal
Rudy - honest assessment here: I love your videos and think you need to do more hands on videos like this! Thank you for bringing up about the, cough ***idiots*** cough, confusing foreign booster boxes with US English releases. I see that a lot in the comments section and it drives me nuts!
Rudy videos are the best, brilliant video! Really like this format so much good information, do more videos like this man. Rudy what set/block should I collect next? Currently have a full set of Aether Revolt, Kaladesh, Shadows over Innistrad, Eldritch Moon, Oath of the Gatewatch and Battle for Zendikar.
This is cool, man. It's interesting to hear you compare current values. My only advice, I guess, is to start with a clear agenda to keep you from breaking off in too many tangents. Overall, yeah. I'd check out another.👍
Love this Video! I would love for you to do a Video teaching how to get into Magic card investing for a small startup business from home. How to buy in order to make a profit, selling, inventory so on.
Great video. Although it can be hard to do this like every week, but it was very interesting to watch. Of course now is probably the time to give some spotlight to MM17, I guess

worst investment is the force of will card game
Tell that to Rudy.
the comments Rudy pins never fail to amuse me
I could easily watch 2 hours of this. Your move Rudy.
Same, probs 5 hours.
Antonio the best episode was his Aether juice episode lmfao!!

Antonio I could watch him 24 hour livestream this shit
Good vid, Rudeman. Wouldn't mind more like it #EvilRudy
Big fan of your pokemon channel :-)

Prices may be high but demand is weak. I had to ship four INN booster boxes to Australia to get the price I wanted, which was $275 a box.
I have never played Magic in my life, but here I am, listening to you talk about Magic Investing. Even though I am not interested in the topic, I am enjoying the commentary and the different Rudys. I think you are one of my favourite youtube channels.
I liked how this video gave a little insight into your thought process when evaluating boxes.
Nice Video my friend, please do more. I started playing with alpha, so I have always bought 5 boxes with each set that comes out to put away for this very reason. Now I have some value with those old sets. Thanks
What's it like being a gazillionaire?
Rudy describing all those great sets of when I still played MTG ...
I love this format of video, hope there will be more in the future.
Homeless Rudy says to open more boxes
Ha ha, I love it! ♥
Nice profile pic
Thank you sir lol
That's how Homeless Rudy came to live in a MTG cardboard house
heavy breathin, oh man i need boxes
I just wish some of the older booster boxes were cheaper so that I could do a sealed draft with my friends of say the Kamigawa block or Lorwyn block, that would be tons of fun since I wasn't around when those came out
Love this kind of video. Do more of this long-form commentary on your personal buys, holds, and sells looking at a variety of sets.
Love this format Rudy. It's nice to watch some of your processes for picking good investments and evaluating all the details.
I love this type of video for someone who wants to start my own card shop hear many opinions and seeing ways people do things is great for me
This is a really great! I don't check the numbers, so I really enjoyed it!
Great video! Thanks for putting the link to the Visualizer you were using in the description. That'll be a great resource for me!
I miss these videos. Rudy, Bring them back!!!
Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, best block/setting/plane/artwork/basic lands/tribal/Rebecca Guay
Lorwyn/Shadowmoor was easily my favorite back in day
This was probably the most interesting video (yet least entertaining) I've seen from you Rudy. Great info on the "inside track" of how you establish value. Thanks!
this is the kind of video that i'd watch but probably have in the background while doing something else, like i'll listen but with you at the chair super casual i'd just look over and there's your smiling face while i do my things. i enjoyed this style of video though for sure
a video like this good because is shows how and where you are coming from. It does help show us your thought process. so keep them coming
PLEASE do this same sort of thing for old school pre-Mirrodin block boxes. Love the format.
this was probably my favorite video of yours. great format! keep doing these!
I usually put your videos on in the background for some light, moderately interesting entertainment. I couldn't look away from this one. Very interesting, very informative, very little filler.
This video format is awesome because I like to learn tips and tools the "pros" use. Just learned about VISUALIZER!
You are not truly into MTG until you are at Rudy's level. #RudyAsNewPowerMythicCardInMM17
WinnersBid MTG false
WinnersBid MTG no for real
Tho Crude Rude is down the hole with mtg. He don't fuck around.
boy, no-one on RUclips has a sense of humor
I love what this channel has become. I watched your first video when you had 100 subscribers and thought - why the hell does this guy not have more subs. Glad I was right.
"Ladies and gentelemen, Rudy from Alpha Investments coming at you live from the Hose Town".
This was a great format, I wish you still did this
No this is a perfect video on multiple booster boxes ive been curious about! great job rudy as always!
Rudy needs to do an update flashback to this. As not only was he right but it all happened sooner/faster than expected.
Even though I'm not an investor, I enjoyed seeing some of your mental process behind what you say in other videos. Thanks, as always, Rudy!
I do like this format, probably more than your usual videos.
I really enjoy this style of video. I do a mineral and gem business and I reference your videos all the time... when it comes to eBay and market watching stuff that is.
Love this format, bring it back!
This video is great! Absolutely love it! I am just walking around my house with my wireless headphones and this is great to listen to while doing chores. I would like to see more of these videos!

Hey rudy just wanna say i love this format of this video! Walking us through stuff is great i love to see how you look at the market
the pre- modern block with invasion and stuff was awesome
I think this is good type of video every once in a while. This video was pretty dense in content which is nice to see.
I enjoy this as a mix up once in a while. Not an every day video.
KEEEP EM COMING RUDY, THESE VIDEOS ARE LIKE DRUGS
This is a cool format. Do more like this.
I know absolutely nothing about magic but it's fun listening to you.
Whats My Gear I dunno based off what you said open one,and sit on the other, check value every 2years. have fun drafting n good luck selling other
Rudy makes video. Prices spike. World burns.
Let's sit back and enjoy the show, then.
That's his intention. That's the whole point of his youtube account.
Great video. I don't mind the occasional box opening, but it's videos like this that keep me coming back.
Also, I'm joining the patreon tonight.
March starts with an M.
Modern Masters 2017 confirmed for Patreons.
What was the page? for prices?
I really like this new kind of format of yours. Keep it real, thats all we want.
dig the format! Could watch this kind of thing all day
lets come back to this format
I like the format. Box buying 101 with alpha Rudy!!!
We're here for the numbers Rudy- the more the better! Actually stopped watching this video initially to watch it when I could give it my full attention.
What you have said about the booster boxes is also true with Pokemon. The ones from the 2000-2007 are also more rare than the base set booster box.
Enjoyed the video. Finance is interesting. Especially hearing your take on what is worth investing and why. Keep it up
The video format is fricken awesome! I like this better actually!
You were thinking about Inquisition of Kozilek as the pricey uncommon dear Rudy. And yes, it's from Rise of the Eldrazi.
Also Rudy, I like this video its a good mix up so people can see how you work
I feel so old. The booster box I ever bought was Exodus. I pulled 5 Oath of Druids...back when that meant something. I was ticked that I didn't get a coat of arms.
This was great, please do more of this
More videos like this Rudy. Very informative!
Enjoyable video as always Rudy, I'd be up to see more of this
you didn't put the link to the visualizer in the description
I like this format, shows a little into the way you look at investing.
Rudy, just spoke to Rocky the owner of Baxters. he said you gave a shutout on his kickstarter page. he made you into a joker card on his deck of cards lol awesome!
I like this format !
I like these personal videos, it's refreshing to see you getting out of one format of video to do other things.
Still gotta' call you out on that cut blunder at the end, RudeDude.
Really enjoyed this video, would have watched more if it were longer.
Love this type of video! Please do more like it!
An update on this video based on all the crazy stuff that has happened in recent years would be awesome, personally I wonder whether the prices will stay as the highs they've climed to during 2021/2022.
Dig the format .Very educational... Thanks!
love this kind of video Rudy. Been thinking of keeping track of the movement of older booster box prices on ebay. Think any older box pre RTR under $170 is a good deal
Enjoyed the vid Rudy! I'm an econ student and I really love the more analysis based videos you put out!
thank you for the visualizer link.
Rudy - honest assessment here: I love your videos and think you need to do more hands on videos like this! Thank you for bringing up about the, cough ***idiots*** cough, confusing foreign booster boxes with US English releases. I see that a lot in the comments section and it drives me nuts!
I enjoyed this. I would like more of it.

I really like this setup rudy, would like to see it alot more
Really liked this video thanks! Nice to see those secret evil Rudy strats
Rudy videos are the best, brilliant video! Really like this format so much good information, do more videos like this man.

What website was he using with the pictures of prices
twitter.com/420MTG
My favorite type of video, thanks Rudy!
11 years ago i bought "Sword of Fire and Ice" for 9 dollars. I just remembered this set - Darksteel hype!
I would love to see more of these kinds of videos keep it up rudy :D
Normie Rudy, "a video about me checking ebay should go down a treat".
You should totally revisit this video to compare prizes
I like this format a lot Rudy
This is cool, man. It's interesting to hear you compare current values.
My only advice, I guess, is to start with a clear agenda to keep you from breaking off in too many tangents.
Overall, yeah. I'd check out another.👍
Nice format. Every new set or master set at least should have a video like this.
Force of Will is a U1 card(Mythic Uncommon) You have to be super lucky to pull a playset from a single box.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE VIDEO SO FAR
This was actually really informative and cool. Maybe like once every 2 weeks just come on and show us trends you're keeping an eye on this way.
I don't mind this format, good info, keep it up
ANY format Mentor Rudy does, we will love.👌👍✊
Great video, please do more of it.
