Pretty amazing not only the plane, and all the engineering involved, but the passion behind what you guys do and all these videos, and ideas that definitely put you into the spotlight as unique and original company.
This is incredible. You guys are so generous. It is refreshing to see people that simply get it; A rising tide raises all boats. There is not limit to this sector. We can all share and make it better and make General Aviation so much larger than it is right now, which is a win-win for everyone.
You guys work so hard and share all you do with us for free: Rare and amazing. Saying, “Thank you” is totally inadequate but it’s all I have. Thank you guys, Gary
Outstanding ultimate contribution Riley. Thank you for the DarkAero Cad Library that you guys have rendered, compiled and sharing. The Onshape software introduction is exciting, dovetailed with quality 3D CAD modeling for aircraft components. This is a giant leap offering to shift aerospace enthusiast to platform what exist today into studied packaged configurations. I visualize this as a milestone resource springboard for quality production of aerospace parts. I'm looking forward to spending time with these offerings. Seems like a perfect time to roll this out... I hope the manufacturers get onboard with their shared renderings to this resource platform...
Excellent initiative 👏 I’m currently using Onshape on an iPhone 12 for small volunteer projects to assist friends in the Experimental & Light Sport Aircraft community. 🤔 I’d be happy to create and upload models of simple components in my spare time (sort of a hobby but with an almost 35 year professional aircraft design capability influencing outcomes). Sketches on napkins or the back of an envelope with key functional dimensions (including EOP) and interfaces defined, is all that I’d need. Other dimensions would be ‘guesses’ seeing that they aren’t critical. I’d also probably include “Mate Connectors” so that functional interface characteristics are represented in an obvious way. Great work guys 👏 Thanks for sharing and for taking a disruptive approach 👍👍
This is really awesome! Thank you for doing this! - Some tutorial links as part of the repository would be nice too. For example, I've always been curious about composite layup modeling in CAD and how you deal with variances in the layup thickness.

This would be really inteseting. Not sure if its covered in any of their videos.
Aaron, thank you for checking out the video! This would make for an interesting video topic. Janis is correct that we do not currently cover this in any previous videos. However, we do cover composite layups and thickness variation in our Aerospace Composites Course. If you are interested in learning more about the course, shoot us an email at info@darkaero.com. 🚀😀
Thank you for checking it out! Just to clarify, the library is not view only. You can download the models and use them in any CAD program you use, or they can be used natively in Onshape!
@@DarkAeroInc OH, OK that is good news, I saw the "View Only" and not the "you can download the STEP file version or copy them to your own Onshape account." in great big letters LOL
The Rolls Royce AE250 might be a good candidate too. Been around forever so reliability and cost/value have been refined. My experience with it was helos. Not sure if gear box is available for use as a turbo prop.
Chris, that would be great to check those out. If you created them in Onshape feel free to share them with us. If created in another CAD program, send the STEP file to info@darkaero.com and we will check them out.
Is there any chance to work with you and be the part of any of your project in this CAD (Solidworks)...? Apart from that.. thanks for that.. really appreciated
Prakash, thanks for checking out the video! Yes, if you have an aerospace CAD part you’ve already created in Solidworks or would like to create one in Onshape and share it with us, we’d be happy to review it and get it up on the database. Feel free to send us an email at info@darkaero.com if you already have something you’d like to share.
Aero propellers "... should always be an odd number of blades from 3~7[as i was told through the years], ... depending what is most beneficial for her potential aerodynamic performance out of all samples in air coefficient tunnel tests & completed..." in full scaled DarkAero flight tests. Is that correct? And, so far, what has proven as the best performer.? 3, 5 or 7 bladed propellers ? Next, have you considered an all electric motor that would only require 1 or 2 12V. battery(ies) for take-off [and to be recharged while in flight] ... Which could carry enough of an electrical charge while in flight... w/entire flight requirements are ALL available with 2 or more scoops holding a turbine(s) of brushless magnetic generation in [V. & W. & Amps] which could keep the DarkAero in flight with enough power recharging until landing & to a complete stop/static ?? If not why don't you side-experiment on that idea.? Yes? Congrats on & onto your new facility! I love all your works as per videos on RUclips platform. TY for your contributions to mankind's processions onwards so all might benefit from. Thank you so much... Sincerely ~paul b p ||| > > > > > > > ^j^ ~"Whheeeeeee!"
Where do I go to contribute CAD models? Are there drawing packages that I could work from? I have access to Autodesk Inventor Pro. Could you use .ipt or .iam formats? Otherwise, it can of course export to STEP or IGES.
Tom, thanks for watching the video and the comment! STEP and IGES formats work just fine. If the files aren’t too large you could email them to us at info@darkaero.com and we could upload them to the database from there.
First of all, thank you for the support! 🚀😌 We we’re hoping to get UL Power’s other engines up there next. Do you have the same ones off their website?
Shane, thank you for checking out the video! The Rotax engines would be great to get up on the database. We will need to reach out them and see if we can get them added.
@@DarkAeroInc I've got Rotax 912iS, 914, and 915iS CAD models directly from BRP Rotax. I could send you them if you are interested, however they are quite large (about 700MB in total)
How are you able to keep going without jobs? Has your business model created a pre kit delivery income source? I’m a supporter of everything I’ve seen you guys doing. Just wondering how you’ve kept going.
Tim, thanks for checking out the video and the support! The initial seed funding was from us three brothers. We had all previously worked in industry and saved money from our engineering careers. This allowed us to get started with shop space, R&D work, manufacturing equipment, overhead, etc. We keep our operating expenses lean and continue to support the project primarily from our engineering consulting, composites courses, sponsorships, and RUclips community.
Hi Amit! We are currently putting together the next progress update video on the prototype. The landing gear construction is going well! We have been working on assembling the gear lately.
Are you sponsored by Onshape? I'm not a pro but I'm not trying to publish models publicly either, I am happy to pay but $1500/year is laughable. Are there no good one-time-fee applications? What CAD software do you guys use yourselves?

DarkAero posted! These guys are a huge asset to the aviation community.
As someone working to scratch design an airplane by myself this is so amazing, I might just go cry with joy...

Thanks so much for putting this library together. I've been hunting all over for AN hardware to use in Onshape. You guys are great!

Quality stuff, propeler software you mentioned would be really great

can we do any colculating of wing or tail
You guys are amazing. Great idea. Ciao, Marco.
Thanks Marco!
What do you guys use in house for CADCAM software?
Can you show the control system design of the dark aero one? The cad files or any detailed video of that will help.
Cool! Thanks!
