I just love how you start the videos with saying to the camera something along the lines of "you look so good today." Thank you for the confidence boost each and every video Brad!
Misconception: us people with dreadlocks do wash our hair. And get this...we scrub our scalps too. Hair is still hair guys only dirty people don’t have clean hair.
Literally every single person I've met with dreads you can smell their hair before you see it and they even say they don't wash it. So on personal experience, people with dreads are dirty, and it makes sense as it's literally matting hair, it's not washed and clean hair otherwise it wouldn't clump together like that. So I dunno about you but i don't think it's a myth, I think people think that from experience.
Brad I literally just shaved my head today because of your last video! I always wanted a buzzcut but I was too scared of other people's opinions. You inspired me to say fuck it and finally do it! 💖💕
Yaaaasss!!! I'm rocking the buzzcut for the second time after two years of growing out again and I love it but I also want it to grow out again (I had to go very short anyway cause of a bad hairdresser) so yeaaasss I just love it
I just wanna say that YES, people DO wash their scalp when they have dreads. If your hair is oily, then your dreads will fall out at the roots and possibly affect the rest of the dread. To keep dreads healthy, you SHOULD wash them. Clean, dry hair just knots up better. This is why you don't want to use wax to make your dreads, because it will build up and get gunky and gross. You also dont want to condition them-- kinda defeats the purpose of dreading your hair in the first place. I speak from experience and a ton of research. I'm currently growing my hair out again to get dreads in a few years.
Bella Holman I find that not a lot of hairstylists know much about dreads. The ones I've met that have the knowledge have either had to take a course specifically for dreads or they have had to do their own research. It's kinda sad. I wish I could just go to a salon and get maintenance done to my roots, but no one in my area that I've found know what they're doing.
Stoner Rants ugh, I had so many people tell me the same thing that I just do the whole fake dreads thing. I mean you can change the width, color, and length every month so it's good, but with such a great style you'd think that they'd teach basic maintenance.
Exactly.... but you can condition your hair with dreads and you should. Just make sure it’s not a heavy cream or oil based conditioner and rinse well.... I have Afro textured hair so that might make a difference
Actually, people with dreadlocks do wash their hair! This is a common misconception. I had dreadlocks for 3 years before combing them out. You just can't use conditioner because it will loosen them!
I feel like he probably meant more like the scalp itself getting a good scrub. I hope with how experienced of a hair dresser he is he would know that you can still wash your hair with them😂
Nye Core He obviously meant washing your hair again without the dreads. Like thr feeling when you have really long hair and then cut it. Your head feels different.
Nye Core I swear !! I used to have dreads and people always asked me if I washed them it was sooo annoying! They also would tell me I HAD to cut my hair if I didn’t want them anymore it’s like,” how are you gonna tell ME ( the person with dreads) that when you don’t have this hair!!😑
bb kyul it’s not obvious, a lot of people believe that people with Locs don’t wash their hair. Not every hairstylist is a trained loctician so I don’t assume that he knows anything about locs. I love his videos and I find him hilarious and informative. I don’t assume anything. I can only go by what he said. I have locs (dreads) and people assume all the time that I don’t wash and condition my hair in order to get it to loc which isn’t true.
Washing his scalp for the first time in 10 years?! No, no, no, people with dreadlocks actually take care of their hygiene, and they do wash their scalp, there are special dread shampoos, etc. I'm surprised that you don't know that...
Exactly. And soaking dreads in warm water with baking soda and apple cider cider is common deep cleaning practice for dreads. People constantly assume that most dreadheads don’t clean themselves without doing a simple google search to learn differently.
“For 10 years he probably hasn’t washed his scalp” people with dreads definitely wash their scalps lmao I’m hoping you mean it’s easier for him to do it now.
So true, you definitely need to wash you scalp even if you have dreads. I would even think you could get a nasty skin infection if you never washed your scalp :O People are quite uneducated and for some reason think dreads smell bad or that they're unclean. I had dreads in the past for 3 years and I definitely took very good care of them, and my head never smelled bad. My mom even let me have them on the condition that I'd take good care of them and that I'd look neat (I was 13) :P
Can you please stop with the myth that people with dreds don't wash their hair or scalp. It is infuriating. I had dreds for 7 years and my hair and scalp were washed and cleansed regularly. Most people, I know who had/have them wash their scalps and use other treatments for deep cleaning from time to time as well. Dreds, like lose hair, are clean or dirty as the person caring for them. As a professional hairstylist, I feel like you should know better and not make judgements about a person's hygiene from youtube video and not continue to spread untruths that lead to stigma against dreds.
Yeah but its because soap residue and other things can get caught in them people dont realise theyre cleaner than they look plus theres people with dreadlocks that it isnt as much dreads as more matted hair that looks grubby and greasy
First off he meant it would feel good because with dreads you can't have a deep scalp cleanse not that he didnt wash at all. But its not a myth that people with dreads don't wash, literally every person I've met with dreads you can smell their hair before you see it and they even say they don't wash it. Part of a Rastafarian lifestyle is not washing their hair I guess, so if your just doing it for a hairstyle perhaps different but it's not some false assumption, it's a sterotype based on truth and I've experienced it plenty.
@@sally-annward375 My dad has had dreads for around 20 years now and his hair has never smelled anything but clean, he is a Rastafarian that doesn't mean he doesn't wash his hair. There are some people who don't take proper care of their hair or, don't know how to take care of dreads or possibly don't have a hair type that is very compatible with the style. The state of a persons hair reflects back on the person more than dreads as a whole just like with any other hairstyles.
I had dreaddies for 6 years and paid a lady to comb mine out. It’s like losing a child. Haha it’s rough and you miss them everyday for a long time. That deep scalp massage is the best feeling tho...
Sam Greenslyfox I feel like only people with really thick hair can pull off looking good in dreadlocks. Never really have known anyone with before so plz correct me if I’m wrong.
Ayenate' Lawson coming from someone who had dreads and has combed them out. The only reason your hair would be damaged after combing out dreads is if you didn't take care of your dreads.
Why do people think that people with dreadlocks don’t wash them? Y’all don’t think that they would start to smell? That your scalp wouldn’t itch from the buildup of dirt and sebum? I had my locks for 6 years, and I can tell you that we do wash them quite often!
Many people are super ignorant. Some people even think Black hair grows out straight and get shocked when they see afros or locs and think it's impossible to clean.
Sheena Allen You’re right washing has nothing to do with hair loss. But it does have something to do with your hair locking together, oils from not washing wouldn’t allow the hair to lock up and dread. Causing them to “fall out”
i have dreads and you can still wash your scalp like imagine if he didnt wash his scalp for ten years he his scalp would be caked with dandruff and dirt
Mark Aviles I imagine it would like when my cat got his matted fur removed like a bunch of dead skin particle everywhere on the fur on the skin and in the air
You wash your hair with dreads... To get dreads you actually have to have clean hair for them to lock up, the oils in your hair causes the knots to slip out, so it has to be washed (at least until they lock up). There are so many misconceptions about dreads, people should know what they're talking about before they call something gross or judge others.
It depends on what kind of dreads you want. if you want "natural" dreads; then don't wash your hair for a while and it will naturally form to dreads. But sure; clean hair can also be formed into dreads. But if your hair is stripped of the natural oils while you try to dread it; your hair will have MAJOR damage as if forming it to dreads wasn't enough damage already.
Potato Wellcox you wash your hair with all hair types.... I have dreads and I have afro textured hair and I kept and keep my hair clean. Having dirty hair is not healthy and having dry hair isn’t healthy.... there has to be a good balance for all hair types
skol no matter how you choose to maintain your locs they still have to be cleaned even if they are freeformed locs. Hair will naturally knot if you don’t comb the knots and tangles out so you don’t have to walk around with dirty hair. Locs don’t damage your hair unless your maintenance is damaging
This comment section: 99.999% "PEOPLE WITH DREADS WASH THEIR HAIR OMFG HOW YOU CAN BE SO INSENSITIVE" 0.0001% "Pink jacket!" P.S I could totally see you rockin platinum dreads, Brad!
Whoa whoa whoa, people with dreads DO in fact wash their hair, even in the starting phase, Water helps LOCK your hair without it you wouldn't have dreads they have special shampoos and conditioners just for dreads, I'm sorry I just had to add my input.
Dazzie Heh' If I do not brush my hair two times a day, I get dreds. I am a long haired metal head, and I have like hair down to below my belly button. 189 centimeters tall metal head here.
Dazzie Thank you!!! I mean dayummm!!! I love my locz and they are super clean and maintained. I love you Brad, but I was a little offended when you said the people looked cleaner and more put together without their dreads!! Shame on you!!!
I’m not trynna bash you or anything but you can have a normal wash routine with dreads. . . Locs aren’t a hairstyle that you can just wear and do nothing with them, you have to take care of them just as you would do with yours.
People with dreads do wash them/ their scalp and if they are taken care of properly are very clean!! I love you and your channel but as a hair dresser don't spread false stigma !!! See a Lock titian if you want healthy crocheted dreads!
I have dreads and I wash me hair with shampoo and conditioner every 2-3 days like i would do with none dreaded hair. And my hair smells like flowers :)
well i mean if you’re white with dreads (aka: mats) then a lot of times your scalp gets covered by the tangles. if your hair is actually textured enough to naturally form real locks (usually in the C row of the chart), then washing your hair is easy
I went back and watched all your old videos and I honestly love how comfortable you’ve become Before you came off as timid and awkward but now you’re way more lively, and I love how you interact with us as an audience and viewers
Why are so many people talking about how you can wash your hair with dreads, YES WE KNOW YOU CAN. He meant without any disruptions, chill out. It's just hair lol On another note I adore how excited you get about everyone's hair! It's so refreshing
I think he meant getting it washed at a salon all the way through. If you have dreads 1/4-1 inch from the scalp (and they’re thick like the first guy) you really can’t get underneath them to scrub the scalp. But tots agree. I had a male roommate with dreads like that and he washed them often.
did you say "For 10 years he hasn't washed his scalp." As a hairstylist, I thought you would know that us people with locs wash our scalp just like everyone else.
Yeah that's what I'm saying, it doesn't even make logical sense like how would hair knot up properly with all that oil sitting in it from 10 years built up? Just cut my 4 year old locks a month ago and I washed them just as much as I wash my hair now, if not more.
People with locks aren’t dirty... that’s a stereotype that came about via colonization and a lack of people understanding how POC’s hair actually works. My hair is my heritage and both are pristine.
Wtf....I was so with you until you said “for ten years he hasn’t washed his scalp...” I have dreads and I know people who have them. Tons of people. We always wash our hair and scalp what are you talking about? This is such a weird thing that people say allllll the time! Why?
I honestly think he was thinking “hasn’t washed his scalp” like how it was washed after it got cut. I’ve never had dreads I don’t know the work or care that goes into but I would think too that you aren’t getting the same wash as those without dreads just because it’s a different process to wash.
Maybe he meant that it was the first time he could really like get in and wash his scalp without his dreads in the way which probably felt really good and different
This dude always makes me feel better about myself hahahaha how sad is that? hahahaha. I'm in quarantine at home, I live alone and don't wear makeup because I'm not going anywhere :/. I miss makeup and the outside world. Thank you Brad, for making me feel better.
You just need to know how to properly take care of them. After each wash you re-twist the lock and dry them under a hooded dryer or a dryer of some sort. Its just hair if you treat it right it will treat you right.
Oomuu I make and maintain dreads for a living, and no. They don't. Sometimes there might be some lint caught in them from hats or blankets, but unless it's a very nasty person, there will be nothing else inside them.
Oomuu Have YOU looked under a microscope ❓ This is a hairstyle that many very highly intelligent people also have. I can't imagine seeing a Yale University teacher walking around with dreads on his head and not knowing or caring that he has mold growing out from his dreads. I can't believe you.
Braaaaaaad.. noooooooo! Our scalps are very very clean! Especially because our locs are (supposed to be) washed with residue free shampoos! And trust me babe, a good scalp massage helps those roots loc up tight!!! ❤️
The more you wash your dreads, the healthier they are and the quicker they lock up. I had mine for 4 years and washed them just like I washed my non-locked hair. Come on Brad I love you but please stop perpetuating disgusting stereotypes, dreads are NOT dirty any more than hair is dirty. Sure some people don't wash their hair, so some people don't wash their locks. But the percentage is exactly the same.
Outpat Truth, water is key to healthy hair period. You need moisture. I believe there are a lot of dreadheads who think they can’t wash their hair often, but I feel the majority of us know better. Some people just restrain how often they wash their hair because it takes so long to dry! Also, using waxes and gels are really bad for your locs, but many don’t know. #educationfortheNation
Outpat I mean.... you can't properly give your hair a deep clean though right? I mean, every strand of straight hair gets clean in the shower, how is this possible if they're in dreads?
Brad: "you are looking extra fine today, yes you are" Me: *Been crying and depressed for the last two days, wearing the same hoodie since yesterday and only got out of bed to drink water* omg thanks bitchhhh
Oh honey! That sounds awful, I hope this video cheered you up and made your feel better. I know it was 4 months ago but still i hope you're doing well and are happy ❤️✳️🤗
Firephox the water will run through the hair... Plus, your hair grows from your scalp and that's why people get maintenance work after they grow out so much.
Ummmm..... I have dreads and I manage to wash my scalp just fine. I wash it every week. Just bc you have dreads, doesn't mean you stop keeping up your hair's hygiene.
I think dreads can look amazing on people with afro hair that locks easily and well, but it looks terrible on slippy pin straight Caucasian /asian hair. It just doesn't have the same structure
Did you know that it's actually alot harder to get dreads if your hair is dirty because your scalp produce oil which causes your hair to slide pass each other and not knot up.
My bestie has been growing her own hair semi locks style and it is so much work, washing her hair takes an hour + drying her fair fully (she lives in Europe so its cold) can take up to 3 days, after she applies all that needs to be applied for her locks to look pretty and they look really pretty I must say. Knowing a lot of ppl with locks (since am from the Caribbean) I can vouch that they take extra more care for us who don't have it ^^
He never said y’all don’t shower or wash ur hair. Pretty sure he meant like someone else washing ur hair: hands and fingers running through your scalp without getting caught and stuff. Someone washing my hair straight vs washing my hair with let’s say, braids on, would be and feel completely different.
Sidney Hills wax will cause build up of oils & other residues. This can potentially lead to mold forming. Clean dreadlocks with simple residue free products & palm rolling is your best bet.
Sidney Hills that’s not true at all. I have locs and I use a regular clarifying shampoo and my African black soap as a moisturizing shampoo.... I never used wax in my hair and never will. It causes build up and is unnecessary. Some people use it because they don’t know any better or their hair is bone straight and even then you can back comb and not use wax
Brad Mondo you can actually as your hair grows out the scalp is just like regular hair before you get it re-locked ... it just doesn't feel as loose while washing as when you take it out it's a different feeling while washing but you get all of the scalp (black locs at least that's the only experience I've had ik white/straight hair has to do it differently)
Um, people can wash their hair with them >_>; Please do not spread misconception around. Yes, there are some people who don't wash their locks. But there are some people who don't wash their normal styled hair. Don't mean everyone with that style don't wash their hair.
I think when white people get dreads they either can't wash their hair as often or have to do it differently. Black people can wash their hair regularly, even daily.
Also I have been told by non-white persons that saying “dread” locks is offensive. I would say braids or locks but not dread locks and it is offensive to some people. I would want to be respectful of that! 🤗
One thing you've got to bear in mind is that it's easier for a Black person to comb out their dreadlocks because the hair 'locks' due to the curl pattern and texture of their hair, and it's not just backcombed/rolled/crocheted like a white persons dreads
Shannon EJ ooh that makes sense I guess. Having curly (but not afro-type hair), I thought it would be even more difficult for black people because it'd be so tightly wound together. I'm so glad the lady in the 2nd video didn't have to chop them completely off, her hair was gorgeous before and after.
Lol people with locs definitely have clean scalps! This just goes to show that cosmetology studies do not in any vastness cover styling or caring for the hair of people of African decent or people with textured hair. It also clearly doesn’t cover styles historically worn by such peoples. This is sad. Although, I must say I still enjoy his videos, and we can’t blame him for misinformation. I’d like to see him try faux locs! It’d be cute on him!
Kaylin Wilson dreads predate civilized society and ALL races actually had dreads before they do not belong to one it belonged to the original man of all races do to the fact that combs weren’t invented yet. Fact check yourself next time please it seems that YOU are misinformed (or haven’t done extensive research)
Dex ThaGodd I appreciate your feedback, but that doesn’t negate the point I was making on cosmetology studies. Also If you know anything at all you’d know the first peoples were in the region that is now the continent of Africa. So we are all technically all of African descent, but that’s a completely different argument.
As a dread guy with almost 6 years of dreads let me tell you that i wash my hair and my scalp as u said almost every day, and every dread guy i know does the same, even bob marley did it , so please stop with that nonsense that we never wash our heads
You usually cannot donate dreads. To make a wig you have to have healthy long hair, and they make the wig hairpiece by hairpiece, so i don't think a wig company would bother undreading the hair even if it was healthy.
You can keep them and reattach them if you want them again or you can sell them for a looooot of money because just like I said, you can just add them to your dreads
Robbie Rice I think he meant it’s difficult to like massage the shampoo and stuff into his scalp with dreads, but I’ve never had dress so I wouldn’t know
Supernatural Is Life sure and that hairstyle is need much more attention then an average you need to get out all of the water from the dreadlocks because if you not you know what smell will come from ur hair 😂 You need to wash it about 2 weeks once
I wash my scalp everyday and I have a few dreads, going full head pretty soon. The important part is to dry them the whole way so you don't get dreadrot. If you don't wash they will fall out as well. Not washing dreadlocks is a horrible rumor. We don't use any horrible products on our hair either unlike undreaded hair. We can't use anything with residue, no sulfates, parabens, wax, and no palm . You are to only was scalp and let the soap wash though the dreadlocks.
He literally said "In ten years he probably hasn't washed his scalp..." so, yeah, he very much implied you couldn't wash them. Which with him as a hairdresser REALLY shocked me.
@@actinggirl333 On average you're supposed to wash your hair only two to three times a week. Anymore than that and you are over washing and drying out your hair. It also depends on the person's hair though. I wash my hair every two days or every other day because of how dry my hair and scalp is.
Suzanne H what? Tbh, you aren’t even supposed to wash your hair that much (as I’m informed). It depends on the type of hair tho, I go weeks without washing but I do oil it every day to every other day. You wouldn’t notice
Maybe he only does “traditional” white hair or thin straight hair. But I mean I know nothing about hair and I still know they wash their hair lmao. How is greasy dirty hair supposed to hold up to locs?
"for 10 years he hasn't washes his scalp".... Definitely incorrect, clean hair is essential to having locs. (My God this man's fan Base is terrible, forever bitching)
OhMyDaysDays that's funny cuz he's a hair dresser himself. I know nothing about dreads or hair styling in general and i even knew people with dreads could still wash their hair
Jess Mann this is the first video I've come across on this channel and it made me not wanna watch any others. Why people think you have to have dirty hair to have locs is beyond me
I’m sat here brushing out my last dreadlock after a week and a half of brushing them all out all day and night! I’ve had my dreads for 6 years and I needed a big change, I wish I had watched this sooner because it would have been so cool to let you shave them off!
I had mine in since I was 12 and took em out when I was 18, I used a rat tail comb and it took me like a week lol but I’m glad I did it. Oh and btw Brad I love you so much so I’m telling u with all the love in the world...my locs were cleaned honey boo boo
Apparently they don't really teach about dreads much or if at all at beauty school. Probably just something you have to learn on your own if you work in a more varied or particular ethnic community. He's an NYC hairdresser, so it's probably lots of rich waspy ladies with money to burn xD
Washing your hair is just as essential to your loc journey as when you have loose hair. Not bashing, just educating. Very ignorant statements going on here.
Precisely ! I was disgusted by the ignorance of this supposed hairdresser ... what nonsense! Btw it is better to say locs (not dreads) just a heads- up as the latter can be offensive !!
Do you think I could pull off blonde dreadlocks?!

Brad Mondo you could get a wig to see
I’ll contribute to the payment of the wig

That's usually why people end up cutting their dreads off, it's too heavy.

Sarah Naomi thank you! Thought nobody corrected this cliché.
Aye! Its cold! I'll get around to it soon you beautiful human!! 😭😭😭
We know you do! I think he meant a deep wash. Cause with dreads, of course you wash your hair and scalp, but of course it could be harder
@@IveGotABulletproofHeart that's why we do deep cleans every so often. It's not difficult to have clean dreads you just can't be lazy about it.

I'm currently growing my hair out again to get dreads in a few years.
fruit 'nacks Thank you. I was over here like, I do wash my dreads.

Maddie W yep i got dreads and i’m biracial i wash my hair every other day
There actually called locs, but ok
@@fairydust1486 they can be called both
Well as a licensed stylist he should know that we wash our head and hair🙄
People with dreads wash their hair! It’s a misconception. It would be different washing your hair without dreads but dreadheads wash their hair.
Nye Core He obviously meant washing your hair again without the dreads. Like thr feeling when you have really long hair and then cut it. Your head feels different.
Nye Core I swear !! I used to have dreads and people always asked me if I washed them it was sooo annoying! They also would tell me I HAD to cut my hair if I didn’t want them anymore it’s like,” how are you gonna tell ME ( the person with dreads) that when you don’t have this hair!!😑
bb kyul that's not what he said. He said first time his scalp was cleaned in 10 years. He's have infection if that were true
bb kyul it’s not obvious, a lot of people believe that people with Locs don’t wash their hair. Not every hairstylist is a trained loctician so I don’t assume that he knows anything about locs. Washing his scalp for the first time in 10 years?! No, no, no, people with dreadlocks actually take care of their hygiene, and they do wash their scalp, there are special dread shampoos, etc. I'm surprised that you don't know that...
Simona M I feel like he meant washed completely and fully through. Like running your fingers through it.
Exactly. And soaking dreads in warm water with baking soda and apple cider cider is common deep cleaning practice for dreads. People constantly assume that most dreadheads don’t clean themselves without doing a simple google search to learn differently.
Okay, I am chill :D
nigga he’s a hair dresser he didn’t mean it literally
Once again, I think he meant like actually running your fingers through it lol
“For 10 years he probably hasn’t washed his scalp” people with dreads definitely wash their scalps lmao I’m hoping you mean it’s easier for him to do it now.

Omg that pissed me off tbh, people talk so much shit about dreads
Ace Hunter, because they look ugly as shit and make people seem unclean
So true, you definitely need to wash you scalp even if you have dreads. I would even think you could get a nasty skin infection if you never washed your scalp :O People are quite uneducated and for some reason think dreads smell bad or that they're unclean. I had dreads in the past for 3 years and I definitely took very good care of them, and my head never smelled bad. My mom even let me have them on the condition that I'd take good care of them and that I'd look neat (I was 13) :P
And he's a "hairdresser"
Can you please stop with the myth that people with dreds don't wash their hair or scalp. It is infuriating. I had dreds for 7 years and my hair and scalp were washed and cleansed regularly. Most people, I know who had/have them wash their scalps and use other treatments for deep cleaning from time to time as well. Dreds, like lose hair, are clean or dirty as the person caring for them. As a professional hairstylist, I feel like you should know better and not make judgements about a person's hygiene from youtube video and not continue to spread untruths that lead to stigma against dreds.
Thank you!!! I cant believe he said that BS!
Yeah but its because soap residue and other things can get caught in them people dont realise theyre cleaner than they look plus theres people with dreadlocks that it isnt as much dreads as more matted hair that looks grubby and greasy
truee
I tought you said daddy's and i was like oooh coooolllll *awkward* but then i read it again and it said dreaddies
Sam Greenslyfox I feel like only people with really thick hair can pull off looking good in dreadlocks. Never really have known anyone with before so plz correct me if I’m wrong.
Definitely not like losing a child
Can you react to people brushing out their dreads instead of cutting them off because it crazy seeing how long their hair is after it’s de-locked 😘
Yeah, but brushing it out it's all completely damaged anyway, and super thin. I like him reacting to both methods.
Yup! And I feel they lock up even better and faster after washing them! Mine did.
Well they’ve never had dreads before and have most likely never really looked into it, so of course they don’t know how dreads work
Lexi Marie but it doesn’t take having dreads to know that all hair has to be washed at some point for it not to smell...
I know quite a few people who think having dreads DOES smell, they’ve just never thought to look it up
If someone has dreads and doesn't wash there scalp in year their dreads would fall out. You can't have dirty dreadlocks.
finally a good comment! :)
Of course you can have dirty dreadlocks. Don't be ridiculous. Washing has nothing to do with hair loss.
Sheena Allen You’re right washing has nothing to do with hair loss. But it does have something to do with your hair locking together, oils from not washing wouldn’t allow the hair to lock up and dread. Causing them to “fall out”
Actually your hair would grow faster when it’s dirty
Exactly!!! Hair won't loc up when dirty!
i have dreads and you can still wash your scalp like imagine if he didnt wash his scalp for ten years he his scalp would be caked with dandruff and dirt
Mark Aviles I imagine it would like when my cat got his matted fur removed like a bunch of dead skin particle everywhere on the fur on the skin and in the air
Mark Aviles that's true
Exactly!
"Im sorry....DADDY?!" 😂😂😂 it's ok, i felt the saaame way 😂😂😂
You wash your hair with dreads... To get dreads you actually have to have clean hair for them to lock up, the oils in your hair causes the knots to slip out, so it has to be washed (at least until they lock up). There are so many misconceptions about dreads, people should know what they're talking about before they call something gross or judge others.
Shae Duran Well that's if you have your hair type. Since dreads weren't made for it.
Shae Duran Brad never called them gross what.

P.S I could totally see you rockin platinum dreads, Brad!
Zethany 😂
Whoa whoa whoa, people with dreads DO in fact wash their hair, even in the starting phase, Water helps LOCK your hair without it you wouldn't have dreads they have special shampoos and conditioners just for dreads, I'm sorry I just had to add my input.
Dazzie i was just about to say that 😊 #freeformer
i think he meant like they haven’t had a professional hair wash at a barber shop or aomething
Jules Bauer he said" for the first time in forever.. for like 10 years..." 👀 not "professionally washed".
Deep_in_fandomland I agree with this so muchhhh
Same I was u dread until a few weeks ago where I took a rattail comb and took an out it's a normal wash routine
I still love him tho
FUCKIN. THANK. YOU.
Deep_in_fandomland you can still have dreads and not wash them. I know of a lot of people who have dreads and never or barely wash them
Do you ever look at someone and wish you could be their best friend, because that's how I feel every time I see your videos
PHANDOM
soft and neat, that’s funny
I find the phandom everywhere oml
People with dreads do wash them/ their scalp and if they are taken care of properly are very clean!! I love you and your channel but as a hair dresser don't spread false stigma !!! See a Lock titian if you want healthy crocheted dreads!
People with dreadlocks wash their hair too..........
April Brown Exactly
Some people dont and it smells awful
I have dreads and I wash me hair with shampoo and conditioner every 2-3 days like i would do with none dreaded hair. And my hair smells like flowers :)
I have dreads too and wash them very often. I use argan oil
Yesss we really do! I haven't when people assume such ignorance 🤦🏽♂️
That last man was fine as hell, omg
VanityIsDeadly his RUclips channel is fightips

@@goforbroke8010 really?

Agreed 😁
People with dreads still wash their scalp...
Jadija X I think he meant like all over your scalp, which is harder to do with dreads.
well i mean if you’re white with dreads (aka: mats) then a lot of times your scalp gets covered by the tangles. if your hair is actually textured enough to naturally form real locks (usually in the C row of the chart), then washing your hair is easy
Ikr I was like ummm I still wash my hair with my dreads.
Jadija X lol I laughed because of that comment he made
Jadija X exactly lmao
This was dreadful to watch

Before you came off as timid and awkward but now you’re way more lively, and I love how you interact with us as an audience and viewers
Kennedy Taylor right?! So proud of how far he’s come
Why are so many people talking about how you can wash your hair with dreads, YES WE KNOW YOU CAN. He meant without any disruptions, chill out. It's just hair lol
On another note I adore how excited you get about everyone's hair! It's so refreshing
Watching the first guy get his hair washed after his dreads got cut off... made me want to wash my hair omg
Erica West This comment makes me want to go to the hair dressers and get mine washed and done..
I am watching this right after washing my hair and that part made me feel soooo good
like "I just washed my hair"x10 good :D
Lol people with dreads do wash their hair tho...
Mrs. Morbid he said wash his scalp 😄 he didn't mean he hadn't washed his hair at all
Erica West lmaoooo my bad screaming children everywhere! I end up watching his vids like 3x over to get the full experience vaha
I don’t hate when you stop the videos. Especially here you’re super excited about what you’re about to talk about!
lol... I'm glad everyone is educating Brad on washing your scalp even if you have locs... good job guys
Oh, he gonna learn today! Loc wearers have had ENOUGH.
Amelia Crisp yes!!!!...thankyou plesse,:)
You can wash your dreads. People wash there dreads just like people with normal hair. Just use different products

The fact that people think that dread heads don't wash their scalp is...both sad and ridiculous.
Yeah that's what I'm saying, it doesn't even make logical sense like how would hair knot up properly with all that oil sitting in it from 10 years built up? Just cut my 4 year old locks a month ago and I washed them just as much as I wash my hair now, if not more.
Not the white ones lmao
White cultures had dreadlocks aswell.
Locks happen when you wash your hair but dont comb it.
KylaMacc dood chill omfg stop acting like you know everything god damn people like u are annoying
People with locks aren’t dirty... that’s a stereotype that came about via colonization and a lack of people understanding how POC’s hair actually works. My hair is my heritage and both are pristine.

Wow you must be gay for making a false accusation
Wow you're actually mad lmao
Herald Jeez No unicorns don't get mad but you do
Wtf....I was so with you until you said “for ten years he hasn’t washed his scalp...” I have dreads and I know people who have them. Tons of people. We always wash our hair and scalp what are you talking about? This is such a weird thing that people say allllll the time! Why?
Mother Of Demons it's a common misconception I think he's just uneducated on dreads and the care that goes into them
I honestly think he was thinking “hasn’t washed his scalp” like how it was washed after it got cut.
Mother Of Demons how do you wash your scalp and hair ?
I know the ignorance kills me ! Had Dreads for 8 years and I accessed my scalp just fine 🤷🏾♀️. Damn shame
This dude always makes me feel better about myself hahahaha how sad is that? hahahaha. I'm in quarantine at home, I live alone and don't wear makeup because I'm not going anywhere :/. I miss makeup and the outside world. Thank you Brad, for making me feel better.
You can and definitely should wash your locks
even if you wash them, cut one off and look at them under a microscope....most of them have mold growing in them lol
Look at them under a microscope..
Outpat im getting dreads soon I'm thinking I want them at least to my chin
Outpat Truth, water is key to healthy hair period. You need moisture. I believe there are a lot of dreadheads who think they can’t wash their hair often, but I feel the majority of us know better. Some people just restrain how often they wash their hair because it takes so long to dry! Also, using waxes and gels are really bad for your locs, but many don’t know. #educationfortheNation
Outpat
I mean.... you can't properly give your hair a deep clean though right? I mean, every strand of straight hair gets clean in the shower, how is this possible if they're in dreads?
'Disgusting stereotypes' 😅 chill its hair with no cultural significance to you if that's you in your profile pic.
Outpat I need your blue hair in my life 😍

This dude said it must be so weird 4 him to wash his hair after ten years😭😂 people with dreads wash their hair too.😭😭
Firephox the water will run through the hair... Plus, your hair grows from your scalp and that's why people get maintenance work after they grow out so much.
He meant get it washed at like a salon where someone else does it
Ummmm..... I have dreads and I manage to wash my scalp just fine. I wash it every week. Just bc you have dreads, doesn't mean you stop keeping up your hair's hygiene.
Stoner Rants When he said that I was like "wtf" lol. I have locs and mine hardly get dirty or smell.
Someone need to do a video on that!
j3nnie99 search for 'Lazy Dreads' and you'll find his dreadlock care and Q&A videos
Exactly what I was thinking. “ he looks so much better” I was like excuse yourself baby
Stoner Rants i was think the same thing
I think dreads can look amazing on people with afro hair that locks easily and well, but it looks terrible on slippy pin straight Caucasian /asian hair. It just doesn't have the same structure
Did you know that it's actually alot harder to get dreads if your hair is dirty because your scalp produce oil which causes your hair to slide pass each other and not knot up.
The 3rd guy at the end looked 🔥
My bestie has been growing her own hair semi locks style and it is so much work, washing her hair takes an hour + drying her fair fully (she lives in Europe so its cold) can take up to 3 days, after she applies all that needs to be applied for her locks to look pretty and they look really pretty I must say. Knowing a lot of ppl with locks (since am from the Caribbean) I can vouch that they take extra more care for us who don't have it ^^
I am living for you nail polish! You should paint them more often!
He never said y’all don’t shower or wash ur hair. Pretty sure he meant like someone else washing ur hair: hands and fingers running through your scalp without getting caught and stuff. Someone washing my hair straight vs washing my hair with let’s say, braids on, would be and feel completely different.
You can wash your hair when you have dreds in.
I know haha, but you cant scrub all areas of your scalp the same way someone can if they didn't have dreads is what I meant.
Brad Mondo true. The struggle. Also Hi Brad!
Um, people can wash their hair with them >_>;
Please do not spread misconception around. Yes, there are some people who don't wash their locks.
But there are some people who don't wash their normal styled hair.
Don't mean everyone with that style don't wash their hair.
You cant shampoo how you normally would
I think when white people get dreads they either can't wash their hair as often or have to do it differently. Black people can wash their hair regularly, even daily.
Also I have been told by non-white persons that saying “dread” locks is offensive. I would say braids or locks but not dread locks and it is offensive to some people. I would want to be respectful of that! 🤗
Its Courtney Bytch he meant like their scalp
Neela Keller I knew what he ment lol I had locks before and washed my hair, shampoo conditioner everything.
Living for that jacket!!!!!!
Brad saying: you looking extra fine!
Me:*no make up,greasy hair,munching on chocolate* 🤣
One thing you've got to bear in mind is that it's easier for a Black person to comb out their dreadlocks because the hair 'locks' due to the curl pattern and texture of their hair, and it's not just backcombed/rolled/crocheted like a white persons dreads
Shannon EJ ooh that makes sense I guess. Having curly (but not afro-type hair), I thought it would be even more difficult for black people because it'd be so tightly wound together. I'm so glad the lady in the 2nd video didn't have to chop them completely off, her hair was gorgeous before and after.
BRAD YOUR JACKET IS SO GORGEOUS YOU ARE KILLING IT BABE
U the real lil peep?

Lol people with locs definitely have clean scalps! This just goes to show that cosmetology studies do not in any vastness cover styling or caring for the hair of people of African decent or people with textured hair. It also clearly doesn’t cover styles historically worn by such peoples. This is sad. Although, I must say I still enjoy his videos, and we can’t blame him for misinformation. I’d like to see him try faux locs! It’d be cute on him!
Kaylin Wilson
Love your comment! Truth!
kanzennaposuto Thank you 🙏🏽
Kaylin Wilson dreads predate civilized society and ALL races actually had dreads before they do not belong to one it belonged to the original man of all races do to the fact that combs weren’t invented yet.
I think he meant getting it washed like at a salon not just at your house or something
As a dread guy with almost 6 years of dreads let me tell you that i wash my hair and my scalp as u said almost every day, and every dread guy i know does the same, even bob marley did it , so please stop with that nonsense that we never wash our heads

how do you was your hair every week? it doesn't get dried out?
Yeah my profile picture is from 2014 and no it doesn’t get dried out often. I use thick Haitian oil
React to Drag Queens hair. Those are hella amazing transformations! 👏🏻🙌🏼
I wonder what those people did with their dreads.
donate them?
You usually cannot donate dreads. To make a wig you have to have healthy long hair, and they make the wig hairpiece by hairpiece, so i don't think a wig company would bother undreading the hair even if it was healthy.
Bury them in the back yard?
You can keep them and reattach them if you want them again or you can sell them for a looooot of money because just like I said, you can just add them to your dreads
They do an altar for them, and pray for the time when dreads were cool to be back.
P.S. I love when you stop the video... it normally means I'm about to die laughing... honestly though it gets my attention... I love it...

@@actinggirl333 On average you're supposed to wash your hair only two to three times a week. Anymore than that and you are over washing and drying out your hair. It also depends on the person's hair though. I wash my hair every two days or every other day because of how dry my hair and scalp is.

I had mine in since I was 12 and took em out when I was 18, I used a rat tail comb and it took me like a week lol but I’m glad I did it. Oh and btw Brad I love you so much so I’m telling u with all the love in the world...my locs were cleaned honey boo boo
Hey you seem nice can you tell me if you are a girl or a boy just curious
Emily G Thanks lol and I’m a girl... I mean not to sound rude but how many guys do u know named Shakira am I right? Haha
For a licenced hairdresser you are very uninformed about the loc culture!
People with locs are all about that hygiene!
These Girl's Travels no not all 😂 Lil Waynes was dirty asf before Lil pumps is fucked up and most likely dirty to
You mean just like with any hair, Anthony ? ;) Being clean doesn't have to do with dreadlocks or not, it has to do with who you are as a person.
He said the first guy probably hasn't washed his hair for the entire 10 years he had them. Obviously he washed his hair regularly just not as often.
These Girl's Travels Thanks for saying something...he hasn't washed his scalp for 10 years....😑😑
Apparently they don't really teach about dreads much or if at all at beauty school. Probably just something you have to learn on your own if you work in a more varied or particular ethnic community. He's an NYC hairdresser, so it's probably lots of rich waspy ladies with money to burn xD
you're always so positive for both before and after pics of people and i'm so here for it
You should do more videos of people combing out their dreads!!
Washing your hair is just as essential to your loc journey as when you have loose hair. Not bashing, just educating. Very ignorant statements going on here.
maratmasry preach
I was literally about to write this comment!!
Precisely ! I was disgusted by the ignorance of this supposed hairdresser ... what nonsense! Btw it is better to say locs (not dreads) just a heads- up as the latter can be offensive !!
Just because you have dreads does NOT mean you don’t wash your hair/scalp. Oil conditions hair, and dreads need to be clean to lock.
