TURTLE RESCUE! Sea Turtle Entangled in Fishing Line

- while diving, a turtle drifted near me. I saw some fishing line trailing near its back end. I figured it was tangled in some fishing line. Little did I know how bad it really was. The line wrapped around the front right flipper and near the turtles neck and front left flipper. The fishing line had wrapped so tightly around the front left flipper that it was causing the flipper to bloat up. The line was slowly sawing its way through the turtle's flipper. Wouldn't have taken a couple more days or weeks for the line to have completely amputated that left flipper. As a fisherman myself, it breaks my heart to see this kind of damage happening to our marine animals. This is a prime example why I rarely go line fishing anymore.
I've rescued two turtles near Puhi Bay in Keaukaha. Neither of them were as graceful as this though. One of them had gotten stuck sideways in a crack in the rocks because of High surf. That one got me bloodied up a bit. The other was Tangled up in fishing line. Someone had left a very long line with the milk jug and a lot of hooks. That one fought like hell. Both of those turtles were very large.
Well done!
watching that made my day better .. so sorry animals have to suffer like that .. but great job helping the turtle
Good job. Thank you for caring and doing the right thing.
Damn, that line was all over its body. I can only imagine the pain and how restrined it must have been. What a relief to be free, good job!
Wonderful job done . Great to knwo that there are people who care. Thank you very much.
Awesome save Braddah! 🤙🏼😎
Thank you. 😢💔💔💔💗💗💗 Thank you so much.
Don't turtles have to breathe air? Why did the divers keep it under water? At least bring it up after cutting most of the lines, and hold his little face up in the air? Please inform me if I am incorrect in this surmise, but turtles on the wild I observed as a child were always breaking the water to breathe. Ta for rescuing the turtle! Brilliant.
Green sea turtles can hold their breath for up to two hours. This rescue took less than 20 minutes. On top of that, it's near impossible for us to hold the turtle above water while cutting the line.
Wonderful... What a privilege... kudos
Gives me hope in humanity. There is so much cruelty to animals by our hands, but to see gentle hands makes me feel good. And those poor turtles will live. ❤
First of all, I really appreciate you doing good work. And I would like to suggest you if you don't mind. How about to use scissors if you keep doing this good job? It will be helps you and turtles for safety.
That's a good idea. I will ask my friend to keep a pair in his kayak since his has a compartment in the hull. My kayak doesn't have that. We're spearfishermen, not animal rescue so we usually stay equipped to just go spearfishing.
Thanks from the bottom of my heart! ❤❤❤
Amazing! Well done!
OMG I wanna be a part of this rescue effort so bad wish I lived closer by I would put all my free time into it 👍👍
Умнички! Спасли черепашку.
I bet none of Timmy's mates believed his rescue story, when he got back to Turtle-Town. Anyways, good job guys ...
Great job! Really good music, too.
Thank you!
we need more humans that act like really heroes and we need that kinda of people to FIX the mess we humans are mading. The animals don't have fault if the human have inteligence and is the most idiot animal species
Guys, well done for the rescue - genuinelly heart-warming to watch, but you missed videoing the best part when you actually released him...sack your videographer!!
Молодцы!!! ❤❤❤
Was it ok to cut and untangle it in the water? dont turtles need to breath? Good vid tho good rescue.
We don't have a boat and we weren't close to an accessible shoreline. The beach we jumped in at was about half a mile away. Our only option was in the water. Turtles can hold their breath up to two hours when resting. Also, they generally need to breath between every 5 to 45 minutes depending on their activity. This whole interaction took about 15 minutes.
@@kalaninuiakau Thank you for your reply, I wasnt sure,, Very good video tho. fishermen need to be educated.
1000 tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans EVERY HOUR.
I hope that after you rescued her, you took that recreational fishing line out of circulation and disposed of it safely, rather than letting it float away to kill again and again.
In Hawaii most spearfisherman including myself and my friends clean the line off the reefs while we dive. I have taken thousands of yards of fishing line, hundreds of lead weights, dozens of drift nets off the reef personally.
thank you
Thanks, guys.
I noticed that his/her left flipper was still not moving after the rescue as he/she swam away -- am I correct?
You are correct. It was probably too painful for it to move it around. We did have to dig out the fishing line from its flesh, so it probably didn't want to move that flipper while swimming.
please don't misgender the turtle. It identifies as Ze. Oh yeah, I'm a total idi0t.
aswome. but never flip a turtle my friends
It was the only way to get to the fishing line. If we cut the line from the top, there was a high chance of sawing off the turtle's fin.
Thank you all💙💙💙
ocean healing ... needed ASP
God bless you. 🇧🇴🇧🇴🇧🇴
Felisidades ustedes son los eroes
Don't throw away trash.
Черепаху спасли, а краба убили. Одних спасаете, а других убиваете.
I wonder how many die because they are not found in time.
I can't say how many since I don't know, but it is a lot. There are other spearfisherman here in Hawaii that have found drowned turtles due to fishing line.
I wonder how many dopes there are like you
B r a v o !!!
God Bless you guys
