I rewatched the movie yesterday and I’m still blown away by this scene alone. The entire hangar bay was so incredibly designed it’s hard to fully appreciate it as a kid.
As the last hatches lock in place and secured, The crew at diffrent stations got to work, the sound of crewmen yelling orders as hydraulic hissing and stream valves activities. The sound of a sleeping vessel comes to life as crewmen and soldier move up and down. A great mighty *clink* is heard as chains are unclampped and Almighty splash is heard. The Ulysses desends as she makes her maiden voyage to atlantis.

I agree with you there! Ulysses is pretty much the WW1-era submarine version of the Enterprise and she'd have made a great setting for Submarine Voyage.

In a scraped version of the script, their fight would have been interrupted by a giant sea monster and the submarine would have used this as a diversion to escape. However, the damages sustained being too high, it would have been left behind.

This movie is a forgotten gem! The score is amazing and this scenes brilliantly mix SGI with hand-drawn animation!
