Alot of people dont give brent spiner enough credit for just how well he portrayed commander data, you could really feel data grow over the course of the show, slowly learning important human lessons until at the very end he does the most human thing possible, sacrificing himself for the lives of his crewmates

Felis Catus is your taxonomic nomenclature An endothermic quadruped carniverous by nature Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses. I find myself intrigued by your sub-vocal oscillations A singular development of cat communications That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection. A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion Oh Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display Denote a fairly well developed cognitive array And though you are not sentient, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend

Okay, but straight up out of literally any other heartwarming or emotion-driving scene in ALL of the Treks whatsoever, THIS is the one that legitimately made me cry for 10 minutes. I'd lost my cat Alice for an entire week last year, about two weeks before finally watching this movie, and I was an absolute WRECK the entire time. We live out in the country, and by a busy road; there were a bunch of different ways that I could have lost my cat forever, and she's been with me for 7 years, ever since I was 11; through being suicidal, through being bullied so badly that I tried to kill myself, through self-harm and self-conviction, through being diagnosed with terminal cancer, through every awful thing that has happened to me, some of them too despicable to mention without being asked to clarify. It was devastating. And then one night my dad and I were walking around in the overgrown field behind our house with a cup full of dry kibble trying to draw her out with the sound like we'd been doing that entire week, every single day, and I heard cracking dried stalks of enormous weeds, looked around, and sure enough - sans sparkly collar - was my fat, dumb, glorious cat. She followed the sound, saw me, squeaked, and ran as fast as her fat little legs could carry her over to me. It was the most emotional I've been in many, many years. And this scene made me appreciate her even moreso. It meant a lot to me.

Watch the episodes with Tasha, Lal and when Dr. Soong died. Soong told Data he WOULD grieve, but in his own way. The whole reason Data was made that way was because they didn't want him turning out like Lore. Also, there was the episode where he straight pissed on the Prime Directive to help that little alien girl. No emotions, my ass. You just had to look closely. Also, I think he DID want to kill that asshole who wanted Data for his "collection."

Spots a small animal, and in a cave of rubble. I thought “faint” was more that the life signs were hard to detect cause of that, rather then cause Spot was injured in any way.

Guess my own "chip" is working just fine. I'm quite a softy and was happy right along with Data when he found his little friend. I think most of us know the sorrows of losing a beloved pet and perhaps a few of us know the joy of getting them back if they've been feared lost forever. One lesson- whether your loved one is furry or some other sort of critter or is human... be sure to tell that soul that it is loved repeatedly. You never know when you won't get that chance again.

I haven't seen this movie.. but I'm glad to see Data kept the emotion chip. The closest I've been to it was when Lor was destroyed... but on TV. I'm currently working on watching Star Trek: Next Gen from the very first episode.. I'm on season 2. It's going to take forever. xD

Oh it does take a while but I assure you it's worth the time and dedication. IMO Data more than any character develops so much by the later half of the series. For an android who began with no emotions or an understanding of Earth culture he is a very deep and rich character and has a lot of personal episodes based upon his journey to discovering his humanity. Hope you finish the series at some point. *as Data* I'm quite sure you will find it... acceptable.

A couple of weeks ago my cat returned home after being missing for over a week and when I tell you I cried when my mum messaged me telling me that he came home. I had to leave the room I was in (i was at college at the time).
I would always sit down with my dad after he finished work and watch star trek and this scene always made me cry, but now after experiencing the fear of losing a fluffy friend and being reunited, it hits close to home. Brent Spiner's acting in this was absolutely amazing. :)

In case nobody's pointed it out already - the uniform didn't change in the moments around 1:04 - 1:08.
Look at the 'switched' shot at 1:08, the back of his uniform is being brightly lit, in contrast with the front. It taking up most of the previous shot only makes it look grey & black, when it's just the contrast between brightly lit, and in shadow.
