I cry most times I hear, “We want more than the wars of our fathers.” I mean that is such a concise, powerful, and resonant lyric ❤️

    • @podnucmo5

@@S5Dic09the lyric you're referring to is "And whether mice or men have second tries"
This is referencing the book 'Of Mice and Men'. It has nothing to do with literal animals.
Famous quote from book - "The best laid plans of mice and men / Often go awry."

This album came out in 2004. The year I graduated from high school and transitioned into college. I went through a tough time in life, felt suicidal and lost. I'm eternally grateful for this album, it pretty much saved my life. I saw and met Switchfoot in 2006. I had the opportunity to tell Jon Foreman that this album had deep meaning for me, he was so kind and gracious towards me
The beautiful letdown album will remain close to my heart

It was this song that did it for me all these years ago. At a youth conference, this song covered live by a local church band is what introduced me to Switchfoot.
Am truly grateful for their legacy and the message they've spread the last several decades. In a day and age where music is fading and the integrity behind records runs dry, Switchfoot is like a candle in a tunnel.

This isn’t a live version it’s a re-recorded version like Taylor swift is doing, after I think 20 years you’re allowed to re-record your catalog, so they have the rights of this version, that’s why it says our version

I'll say here what I've been thinking for a few years now. Nobody wants to rely on the success of the past as their path for the future. I get it. I love their live stuff more than I ever loved the studio stuff too. Being able to hear some of the songs that helped shaped my early adulthood, songs that were part of even the older years, sung in a new way, feels good.
That being said, for some reason I am a little detached from the more recent albums. Ever since vice versus, it hasn't quite been the same. I will love this band to the day I die, and I will always look forward to new music, but it also hasn't been the same.
I'll always love these guys, no matter what, though

Seeing a lot of good posts about switchfoot. I graduated from a texas high school in 2004. This soing is basically how i felt, and still do feel. Funny how we felt has now turned into the fight of our generation. To stop being taken advantaged by... That's essentially what i get from the song. Live for more. Fight for more. Be meaningful.

This is great. I was a fan since the Legend of Chin, but haven't listened to Switchfoot for years - long story. Something made me thing of you all a few days ago and I saw that you were re-recording this album. I remember picking up the original when it came it and rocking out to those opening chords in the car, leaving the store, and digging this album.

    • @scratchknudsen1
      @scratchknudsen1 Год назад +1

Let's hear the story. I also started back with Legend of Chin. I saw them live at least 2 times, Judson University(right next to the stage) and Cedarville University, but have not really listened since Nothing is Sound. I don't really know why.

    • @ekims_echoes
      @ekims_echoes Год назад +1

@@scratchknudsen1 I came to enjoy Switchfoot as one of my favorite Christian bands. Now I realize they don't necessarily like to be called a "Christian" band and they're not really preachy in their lyrics, but that was my association with them. I bought all my Switchfoot albums at Christian bookstores.
Anyway, my faith evolved and I had generally bad feelings about Christian music - not necessarily because of the artists themselves, but because of the associations with that part of my life. So I stopped listening to pretty much all that music and have only recently been able to revisit some of those artists. I think I could enjoy bands like Switchfoot again now because the religious aspects aren't really in your face, but yeah - that's a pretty new place for me.

    Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
    And failed attempts to fly
    Fly
We were meant to live for so much more
    Have we lost ourselves?
    Somewhere we live inside
    Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
    Have we lost ourselves?
    Somewhere we live inside
    Dreaming about providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we've been living with our eyes half open
    Maybe we're bent and broken
    Broken
We were meant to live for so much more
    Have we lost ourselves?
    Somewhere we live inside
    Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
    Have we lost ourselves?
    Somewhere we live inside
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life
    Yeah
We were meant to live for so much more
    Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
    Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
    Have we lost ourselves?

    Are you boys having fun!?!🩸
    ⛪️👈IT MIGHT GET LOUD ✝️
    Revelation 19
    English Standard Version
    Rejoicing in Heaven
19 After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,
    “Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
    2 for his judgments are true and just;
for he has judged the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3 Once more they cried out,
    “Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”
4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5 And from the throne came a voice saying,
    “Praise our God,
    all you his servants,
    you who fear him,
    small and great.”
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
    “Hallelujah!
    For the Lord our God
    the Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult
    and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
    and his Bride has made herself ready;
8 it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”-
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
9 And the angel said[a] to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” 10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The Rider on a White Horse
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in[b] blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule[c] them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18 to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave,[d] both small and great.” 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence[e] had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
