There’s literally the faintest sexual/romantic tension between the two male leads in that movie. And it’s otherwise a very hetero-normal film. It’s a solid enough flick. But the queer angle feels more like a marketing gimmick than anything else.
I think Quan Millz is taking small plot points from more popular novels and blowing them up for trolling purposes. I’ve read EJD, Bebe Moore Campbell and Zane books with similar devices (freaky preacher, freaky septuagenarian, gay husband, etc) but they weren’t the whole book because that’s weird 🤷🏽♀️
The Survivalists by Kashana Cauley was absurdist and I think meant to be a satire! Its under 300 pages, but I only made it to 100 pages before thinking it wasn't quite for me. The main character was making the worst decisions possible and ignoring the many glaring red flags of her survivalist boyfriend and his roommates. It would be interesting to see your insight!
