    Nice video, I would also mention that initiative can use any skill, not just stealth and perception. For instance, if you are attempting to use deception to conceal a knife behind your back and a fight breaks out, you would use deception for initiative. The thought process behind it is, can the enemy perceive your attempt to deceive them before you get a chance to act? If their perception ends up higher, they go first, otherwise your deception is successful and you get to act first.

      Thanks! I hope you enjoy the short series! On another note: if you’re interested in pathfinder and willing to drop $5-$25, the humble bundle currently has a nice big bundle of 2e PDFs that can help jumpstart you into trying it out. I believe it even has the beginner box in the bundle.

    Haven't actually seen any of your 5e content and starting with PF2e funnily enough, loving it so far! Excited to see more!

      @@tommietaco57 Btw, you can cast spells while holding things, shields or even weapons. The 'somatic' component simply means that the spell has the 'manipulate' trait, meaning it can trigger attacks of opportunity :) Also, you can set distance measurement in Roll20 on the settings of the page you're on. Under 'Grid' there's 'scale' and 'measurement', just set it to Pathfinder.

      @@20catsRPG I discovered those settings over the weekend 😅 I’m so used to foundry auto doing it that I didn’t look very far in roll20 settings. Also, thank you for clarifying that. I reread after the second session and from what I’m seeing, it’s material spells that will require you to have a freehand. Spells requiring a focus also require you to have your focus out but I also see no reason to enforce that as the player could have it attacked to them or their weapon.

      @@tommietaco57 I'd suggest looking into Fantasy Grounds Unity... everything within FGU is fully automated, so when trying to get the players to roll initiative, for example, there is a spot on the character sheet for it and they would have just clicked that to roll the die and their perception initiative would have rolled, bonuses included.

    My group just finished the campaign and I have to say that I’m really proud of how we did, because we were really clever with how we played.
    Spoilers:
    So it turns out that we had 2 players in our campaign that spoke spider and kobold, which allowed us to get through the first few problems with diplomacy, we scared the kobold away and bribed the spider with bodies of ppl we killed. Im proud because I was the one that figured out the coin puzzle. My companion had the genius idea to lock the kobolds in the room with the mermaid statue so it just keeps damaging them. And for the cinder rat we got a lot of cloth wet and basically wrapped it around him and bear hugged him to do water damage, the dm let us use a d12 for damage for being clever.

      @@JacksonOwex one of our players was able to turn into a spider to speak their language. It took a lot of bribing but it worked.
      In our new campaign I did the same with a gargoyle that I hired to guard the run down castle I owned because there was a chest randomly in the courtyard that nobody would touch since they figured it was trapped. Me, being the brave hero, opened the chest to find the deed and a bunch of jewels including a ring signifying the owner of the land lol.

  • @ChairyCrasher

    I have a question about the melee strike aka bite with the rat. You only use the d20?

    • @meyore
      @meyore Год назад +2

      So if I’m understanding the question correctly, yes like all melee and ranged attack rolls you would use the d20 for the bite which is a melee attack and then add or subtract any modifiers to that roll. Then if you hit you would roll a d6 for damage plus or minus any modifiers to that.
      Side note: I can’t remember if it happened this session since I know the beginner box slightly modified some monsters, but these rats normally also carry disease so if they successfully bite your player, the player would also need to roll a d20 for their fortitude saving throw and contract the disease if they fail.

    • @ChairyCrasher
      @ChairyCrasher Год назад +1

      @@meyore I figured out it. I was stupid. The jaws for the rat +7 is that you roll d20 then plus 7. The jaws help you reach the characters AC

    Hey y'all it's a pretty good show. I just want to make you aware, and you can ignore me or fact check me as you please, but saying, "boy," like you were is actually a derogatory and racist term used when referring to black people. It also does not help that you're using a southern accent... I'm not necessarily offended, but I do know people of color who have been hurt by that term.

    • @tommietaco57
      @tommietaco57 6 месяцев назад +2

      I can understand this, being from louisiana, I have learned that this can be the case. However when growing up, all of us referred to each other as boy, because we were boys. I didn’t learn until much later that boy was a racial term towards black/african American men. Why did I not know this? Because I was never taught to be racist. When I hear “boy” I think of guys. Dudes. Not to be rude, but that’s not why he was doing it. It’s mostly likely because he has heard me say it in conversation,and, believe it or not, I have a hard accent when not recording or if I’ve been drinking.
      He did not mean it in this way. It’s easy to tell he didn’t mean it this way. Anyone who takes it this way, then I’m sorry.
