After seeing videos like this and seeing coins offered at the different weekly online auction sites, I'm convinced that something like 80% of coins submitted to CAC for grading are coming back with "UNC details" and other problem designations. That Mercury dime going from a MS66 to MS63 is pretty shocking. I think I'll stick with PCGS for my submissions.
The large Cent did not have questionable color. It's called a "greenie" in Large Cent collector circles and is desirable. I have a beautiful 1847 from the Nafzger Collection that has similar color. The CACG graders should know better.
I have and always will support Cac Acceptance , however I would be hesitant to send coins to CAC grading based on what I have seen so far and would never crack a coin out or even send it in for a cross over without a minimum grade. John Albanese lives in New Jersey so its very unlikely that he is grading much that comes through CAC Grading in Virginia. Maybe he grades or approves the real high value stuff. A 3 point drop on that Washington and Environmental damage on that Mercury seems ridiculous. This video is the same as most others who send to CAC grading. As for those Seated coins - stunning !
Great informative video, just getting into coin collecting, primarily Peace Dollars, just love the beauty of that particular coin. Great to see my hometown Tucson Az as well!!!
This video reaffirms something I've always thought. There's no evidence that CAC is any better at grading than NGC or PCGS, and in some cases they are actually worse because they want to be perceived as "picky". Chasing CAC grading or stickers is kind of like lemmings going over the cliff.
Hey Ben, i remember that 1948S CAC MS65 PL - gor some reason thought it would be very uniques since it was the first graded 48D PL and by CAC-i went nuts and bid like 450 and i know why - i judt wanted it but i think it sold for over 500. I love to look at d US proof coins and cameos - thanks😊
As always, these crackout videos are always entertaining as heck! Have you done a video on the actual cracking out process (preferably on a range of different holders) and how we can do it with losing an appendage or eye?
CAC has said very boldly, they are not for the crackout dealer. If i personally am going to spend a huge amount on a rare coin, I will seek out a CAC as I know it’s not overgraded.
All grading companies make mistakes. The important thing is to be as consistent as possible. As the finalizer and senior grader in another hobby, I always tell my team “give it the highest grade possible without being wrong!”
On the crossovers I agreed with Cac. While numerically there all the coins either had haze or one side of the Cameo wasn’t strong enough imo. On the grading I thought they were too tough on the quarter which I had at a 65 non PL and have no idea what environmental damage was on the dime
I don't know how well the grading service is doing but the stickering is way overhyped, so I imagine it is making them lots of money. People well send in a big lot of coins just hoping to get a coveted sticker. As a true collector, I only care about grade to know I am paying a reasonable amount. I currently own a coin in a XF45 holder that I have not upgraded because I haven't found an AU with the same deep strike or eye appeal. I appreciate the coins. Not the holder and/or stickers.
If PCGS, NGC and ANACS in the early days all graded very tough, then became less harsh as the graded coin market developed then what makes us think CACG won’t follow suit and become more lenient as the years go on? The big issue the market demanded was improvement in turnaround times. CACG saw that, began grading modern coins even after early indications they wouldn’t do any of that, and now they’re downgrading every coin that comes in to cross substantially. Nothing quite like kicking us when we’re down. I could be mistaken but wasn’t JA also involved in the creation and growth of all those other companies?
I agree except that we are doing this to ourselves. The market has put CAC/G on a pedestal. Nobody is forcing us to use them. I damn sure won't be sending anything their way.
I'm wondering if CAC knows how to grade. That seated half dollar was flat out gorgeous. The Mercury dimes took a bit hit... frankly too big of a hit. I'm not particularly impressed with those results. I bet if you sent those dimes Back into NGC or PCGS they'd grade like they had previously. I'd give you a consolation cookie if I was in Arizona
I too had some rough results with my toned mercs I sent to cac. Although I cracked out a 43 merc FB from an ntc holder and it did come back cacg 64 fb. But yeah it's rough. Don't send cac toned coins.
Hi Ben, wow cacg is one tough nut to Crack. I'm not sure about the environmental damage on the dime I guess someone needs to point it out to me.On the video it looks pretty dang nice.well better luck next time and remember 3 strikes and your out
I could very clearly see under my electron microscope that there was a massive spot of corrosion on the rim of the 40 Merc, it was at least .0000437 microns of corrosion.....hence the environmental damage label, it really should be obvious to anyone with the skill to detect it. CACG......nope, not ever.
I received my new book on "Roman Imperial Coins" by David Van Meter. Ben, I think I need a book to show me how to use it 😆 Wow this thing is complicated 🤔 😃 It'll take time but I'll get there.
6 coins and only one graded even and one down by 3 points look I get there are some over graded coins out there but this seems almost crazy it’s like CACG is purposely looking for anything to grade a coin in detail grade or artificial color and that quarter that went down 3 grades CACG viewed those hairlines as scratches not the same way that NGC did makes me think CACG didn’t put that coin under a microscope to see lines were polish lines from die they just assumed it was hairlines
It’s like CACG only wants to grade the high high grade coins I will never send one of my coins to them and I know they would cross but still would not do it period
I know that if Ben started a grading company, maybe with a gold star instead of a green bean as the trophy then I would have full confidence that my coin was graded correctly......just saying.
I think i get it. CACg thinks that since the bean adds value to other grading companies without question, that they now hold the keys to the industry. And every one of they're their holders has the bean as if their results can't be questioned. Trust me, they're going to be short on a customer base real soon they keep this up and who's going to want to submit for a CAC bean after all this??? If they fail as a grading company, then what significance will the Bean have after that??? Lol, they came in too hot, but are going out ice cold
Ya I've said it b4 and I'll day it again . I'll nvr in my life use CACG at all . Your olny setting urself up for failure. I can't believe those proofs didn't cross over they were just amazing looking . Cacg is just far to harsh on coin gradeing and there coins don't even sell for that much more so it's not worth the disappointment or the chance at a details coin .
@@nicolasmorabito7950 I didn't see any problems with the coin other than some possibly disagreeable toning. The scratches, etc. were all on the holder.
But astute collectors won't buy these coins regardless if they grade straight at NGC. Sure, you can trick newbies into buying the junk coins, but that's not a good way to make money.
You've missed the point: if CACG isn't going to cross over, then CAC certainly won't sticker. CACG's mission statement is to end gradeflation. CAC only stickers coins it deems as correctly graded quality coins.
I know TPGs hate Washingtons and grade them super harsly, but going from a 6 to a 3 is insane. I could see it in a 5 holder, but there's no way a 63 is the correct grade there. Even being stingy and "strict"... What a crock.
I have never sent a coin for grading but I would certainly feel a little ripped off if they gave a questionable color grade on coin that was otherwise beautiful.....I can understand if the coin has some color that was completely unnatural........but questionable color is so vague and seems so arbitrary.
I would never let CAC touch my coins. The are the worst grading company out there. They ruin the value of your coins. All they are doing is scaring away customers.
Everyone keeps slamming CACS results. Guess which ones investors will start seeking out knowing they are not over graded? CAC will be a supreme grab in years to come.
With that said I have watched 5 or 6 RUclips videos coming back from CACG and all have same results coins that were turned into details coins or questionable color and even silver eagles it’s as if unless your a big dealer sending them a lot coins they are looking for ANY reason to detail grade your coins because there are few dealers with results but tons with pcgs and NGC coins that were in high grade come back detail I get some discrepancies but this bad no way it’s on purpose and I have even noticed the NGC coins getting the worse treatment but I will never ever send a coin to CACG first because they didn’t want my coins at first opened but now they will take collectors nah if you didn’t want my coins then why now and second you can’t tell me 3 people are wrong and CACG is correct no way I have seen coins especially DMPL Morgan dollars in CACG holders that I could easily find a reason to detail it for and as a grading company they should not be looking for any reason to detail or questionable color a coin
Not a great look for CAC. Being more strict with your grading won’t make your slabs more valuable I think people will just learn to distrust your company
Think you are first!!! I sort comments by newest - the scroll all the way to to bottom and whoever is last is actually first - so IMO - you got first - congrats
why? because CACG is trying to bring back higher standards to our hobby? we should embrace them for doing that because there is too much high grade garbage in straight graded slabs currently.
CAC has no idea what they're doing as a slab grading service. Talked to a few dealers in January at a show and they all agreed it's a waste of time and money sending anything to CAC at present.
Kids the moral of today's story is that if you send any coins into CACG expect to get your butt kicked.

Completely agree with all of your points. I'm not buying into the cacg hype
Those seated coins are awesome! Thanks for sharing! I would never ever do business with cac again if I had your experience.
agreed!
I been collecting for many years ,your channel is the very educational thank you for your time.
Thank you !
I could not see any "environmental damage" on the 1940-S Mercury Dime. I probably should schedule a vision check-up. Or maybe the CAC grader needs to.
I think they were looking at the L on Liberty. It looked a bit off to me too.
That's insane. Just insane. Would NOT recommend CAC.
at least we know if its in a CACG slab, its a strong coin for the grade
Totally gorgeous coins, In my opinion CACG is wrong on all of them.
The large Cent did not have questionable color. It's called a "greenie" in Large Cent collector circles and is desirable. I have a beautiful 1847 from the Nafzger Collection that has similar color. The CACG graders should know better.
The seated liberty's were beautiful especially the third one i would be proud to own them!
From what I've seen so far from CAC grading, sending coins there to be graded is a guaranteed way to ensure your coins lose value.
It is fantastic for buyers, though. No more overgraded crap in slabs.
I have and always will support Cac Acceptance , however I would be hesitant to send coins to CAC grading based on what I have seen so far and would never crack a coin out or even send it in for a cross over without a minimum grade. Beautiful coins. 😍 Those Seated proof coins are awesome. ❤😎

That 85 seated quarter is absolutely spectacular

CACG does themselves no favors by being so brutal.

i suspect that when you said did not cross it meant at that grade level. it would have crossed at a lower grade had your customer requested it.
How much is the very first coin you showed? The 1866. It's 100 years older than me and it's just as good looking as me.
Hey Ben! Now that The Engineer has a video, when does Zach The Shipper get a video?
Where is the inviromental damage ? I wish you would have gave us your thoughts on that . Nice cross over video tho , T U

Thanks for the video Ben…. I don’t like their holders, I don’t like their grades.
love these
Well, I think skip the CAC holder and just go for the sticker. That’s kind of a tough hit there
CAC most certainly would not have stickered any of those coins, hence the downgrades.
It’s like CACG only wants to grade the high high grade coins I will never send one of my coins to them and I know they would cross but still would not do it period
