Everything you said regarding Mason Mount is completely fair and true. However, i dont care. The dislike i have for him is irrational. He wanted to leave because he felt undervalued compared to everyone else. A big part of the reason why people hate him is literally because we loved him. If he was still here, he would be wearing the armband. Also, we literally defended him against everyone. Everyone said he's overatted, etc. we weren't gonna stand for it. He was our starboy, but he's gone, and we have Cole palmer.

He's a very good player, but had and (judging by the North London derby at the weekend) has a tendency to drift in and out of games. Sometimes he goes so far out that he never quite gets back into them. I like him a lot, but he's almost the definition of a luxury player. Also, it's quite amusing that Arsenal said they were going to play him differently from us and promptly, er… used him the same as we did. He'll be good for them at times, but I wasn't sorry to see him go, particularly for that fee.

Book value works like this. If you brought a player for 100m for example on a 5 year deal, his book value will depreciate by 20 million every year. So if the player has 1 year left then his book value is 20m. Therefore, if you sell in his final year for 60m then you make 40m profit technically on the books (60-20).

For me, Mount dropped off and it seemed to coincide with him doing more for his image/photo shoots etc. I'll never forget something a top player said. Some players start to play in the first team and think they've made it and stop working, they will end up not making it, whereas, those that continue to put the effort in make it - Mount for me falls in the prior, he worked and got to a level, then dropped off.
Havertz, too inconsistent, I think you can wait for a player to become the player you think they can be, but you have to set a limit. There's no point saying every season this will be their season, at some point you have to call it. Havertz falls into that category. As did RLC, CHO, Pulisic and I think the same can be said for Disasi, Badiashile and with James if he doesn't manage significant minutes in at least 25 EPL games this season.

Havertz is not consistent. We had to rely on him for 3 frustrating years, at Arsenal, Havertz having a bad game will go unnoticed because they do other players who can step up.
We told rival fans that Havertz is a good player on his day but they wouldn't listen. They constantly said he was rubbish and told us we were just hyping him up.
However Arsenal fans are constantly telling us Jackson is bad yet on his first season done better than Kai Havertz has ever done in the premership.

Book value is related to amortization… it goes down by the same amount as the amortization rate
70m/5 year contract… means the “book value” goes down by 14m per season. Havertz was here 3 years, reducing his book value by 42m, leaving 28m book value.
Any amount above 28m is a net profit on the books.

When you say “Reece James is the best right back in the world when fit” the last 2 words of that sentence swallow the rest of the sentence. There are a LOT of examples just at Chelsea of injuries that reduce a player’s quality materially. The jury is still out on whether James can return to his previous form. His petulant red cards, however, are a clear indication that he himself is frustrated and that frustration is likely due to him knowing his constant injuries are slowing him down. An in-form and firing Reece James does not act out on the pitch the way he has. A day arrives for every high level athlete where his body begins to fail to answer the call his mind has sent. It’s the physiological reality of high-level sports. How that athlete adapts his lifestyle, his training habits and his playing style is the key factor in whether he can continue to perform at high levels. Reece is struggling with that and the outcome is not known yet. I hope he’s getting the right counseling to help him.

I wouldn’t compare Cole Palmer’s contract to other more experienced players. He was on a youth contract of 13,500k weekly 14 months ago and had only 1 full season in the first team. Whilst he has had a massive impact on our team you can’t compare him to a 25 year old who has 4-5 seasons in the premiership. Compare Palmer to his peers like Hojland. I miss Mount but glad we haven’t had him on the injury table the last year. Glad we sold Havertz as he seems to be like Ozil with his purple patchy form.

    Opinions on this playing as a 4 - 1 - 4 - 1 moving to 3 - 2 - 4 - 1:
    Jackson
    Sancho Nkunku Palmer Madueke
    Caicedo/Lavia/Enzo
    Cucurella Colwill Fofana James/Gusto
    Sanchez
James/Gusto/Cucurella invert into midfield to join one of caicedo, enzo or lavia and means we can fit both jackson and Nkunku in. Nkunku likes to drift out left, plamer out right and both can do defensive work if needed as well as the wingers. May not fix our defence but feel this would be good to see.
I feel like it is such a waste for us to not use Nkunku. I feel he may be one of the best players we have and to have him sitting on the bench just feels like we are wasting him. The man was scoring in preseason and every time he has played has shown why he is good.

    A couple things, yan:
I think the book cost works similarly to amortization. Havertz’s book cost was a combination of his transfer fee divided over the course of his contract at chels + his wages. It was lower bc his contract was running out.
Also, regarding havertz, I tried to back him and always thought that we failed as a club to deliver what was likely pitched to him; I remember clearly that the plan under lampard was to use him as an 8 arriving late alongside Mason. It was so short lived under lampard that I feel like this plan was never able to come good. But to call havertz “versatile” (or what Arsenal fans refer to him as now) is heinous considering how little he was able to adapt to tuchel ball. I know tuchel historically is low output in terms of final product, but havertz was a massive contributor to it being as low as it was

I might be alone but I really like what the new management has done. I love that the new wage structure is sustainable and is about building youth talent. I love the fact that they're not looking at these players with sentimentality but as assets and if you don't perform, you're gone. I actually think that the overall quality of football has gone down tremendously over the last 15 years and I think it has everything to do with inflated player values and salaries. The idea that a club can dish out 100 million in a summer transfer window every year is unrealistic and unsustainable, especially when it seems more likely than not that the player will not live up to their price tag. neither player is worth anything close to what we sold them for. I think the football market is poised to see a massive course correction and player values over the next decade because no one can afford to pay $60 million and get less than 25 goals a season.

No doubt 65Million was very much and I thought at the time Arsenal could have gotten him for less and maybe there would have been more of a bidding war if Arsenal havent just met the price tag right away. Nonetheless since january his numbers in assists, goals and every other metric is very impressive and if he plays a full season like this it might be really good.
To Mount: I don`t get the criticism? He was there one season got injured and played in United worst season, its not like the system was working or anything.
And to the Palmer comparison : thats more like a lucky punch like Odegaard for 30Million, Salah for Liverpool wo suddenly exploded etc.
Fair play to him, but its not like everyone waited for this.
On the other hand Fernandez, Caicedo etc are clearly more of the overpaid category .

Palmer's contract is not static. Chelsea's new contract this season was not a favour; it was an activation of a clause. Chelsea literally had no choice but to improve the offer. So also are Nicholas Jackson and a bunch of others.

Havertz and Mount were in a CL-winning team coached by Tuchel. With the right manager, they can be very good players. I don't believe Chelsea can win the CL anytime soon. The team is full of talented misfits like Sancho, Mudryk and Felix. The data-driven approach is bollocks. The data collected on Mudryk in the Ukraine league was irrelevant to the PL. Chelsea is picking individuals based on dubious stats rather than building a team. The stats don't address psychology. Alex Ferguson wanted winners and would ask other managers and his players about the attitude of players he considered buying. The sporting directors, the manager and Clearlake have never built a successful side. This is the blind leading the blind.
Some players don't have long careers, Gary Shaw won the league at 20 and the CL at 21 and was superb. He was PFA and European young player of the year. He sustained a knee injury and was never the same. Medical treatment has improved since the 1980s but who knows whether Chelsea still employs competent staff. The sporting directors were allegedly trying to blame Poch for the injuries last season. Mount has played for Chelsea since he was 6. Saying he's a Pompey fan is ridiculous and irrelevant. How many of the current team grew up as Chelsea fans?

Why are we still talking about Kai and Mount? Kai was jever going to make it at Chelsea so if it's "working" at Arsenal then good for him. I will pick Jackson over Kai any day. As for Mount, he wanted a move and he got it, whatever happened after is none of my business.

Yan (and anyone else curious about how these calculations work), book value is basically calculated by taking the original price paid for a player, dividing that figure by the number of years contract length (maxed at 5 now thanks to Master Boehly), then subtracting that annual amount from the original price for each year the player is at the club. So for Havertz, 71MM quid (per Transfermarkt) divided by 5 years is 14.2MM per year. He came to us in the summer of 2020 and stayed until summer 2023, so 3 years. 3 x 14.2MM = 42.6 MM, subtract that from 71MM and you get 28.4MM unamortized balance at the time of sale - the burning off of his fee is the amortization in action.
Surely there are other little tricks here and there to bring that value down a little faster, plus I'm not sure if the 71MM was cash up front or included bonuses, some of which may not have been fully realized. Bet scoring the Champions League Final winner wasn't a bonus trigger, eh? 😂 But anyway, there you have it, more or less.
EDIT: Love the channel, keep it going bro. 🦾🦾🦾

Havertz was bought to play as a midfielder. He failed at that miserably.
Arsenal were unanimous in agreeing they needed a striker this summer. If they had done that Havertz would be on the bench.
    He's completely toilet.

Couldn’t give a monkeys about Mount and Havertz. They’ve moved on and so have I. James is not captain material, period. His future is very much in doubt IMO. He has defensive lapses in him and his strengths do not fit into the current system but he is a class player who could adapt but he has to be available and he isn’t. Add to that his salary and how good Gusto is, albeit becoming injury prone, and I see James going the way of the Academy money pit. I’m not even sure I’d be so upset if he was sold, assuming it’s a lot and to another country. Of course, he’d become as fit as a flea for someone else, unless he does a Hazard.

What was the point of bringing up Pulisic when he’s clearly a good player who had some injuries issues along with also playing out of position at Chelsea? Let’s compare Pulisic’s injury record and productivity since he left Chelsea to Kai Haverts, Mason Mount, Reece James & Chillwell and it’s NOT EVEN CLOSE who’s doing better. The only player doing something is Kai Haverts. The English & European bias is insane how you and others always have excuses for other players and what they’re going through whether it’s injuries or they just plain overrated but not for Pulisic

both harvertz and mount are overrated as footballers , i think they had limitations, just like i thought that galagher had limitations, players like that are just overhyped, take for example mount v col palmer, mount is just a runner and has work rate, cole palmer is a pure baller with pure skill, take lavia vs gallgher, lavia press resistent , ball progression, passing range , football intelligence, gallgher , no football intelligence poor pasiing range , just a runner and tackler just like mount, gallagher winning man of the match just one game doesnt define anything, he will be found out soon for his lack of football intelligence, different games will pose different challenges for players like gallgher and mount, for harvetz i still dont rate him, i think he is a youtube footballer. pure ballers , like de bryne , jamal musaila , yamal, nico williams , rodri, lavia, bruno fernendes, bruno guimeres palmer, rico lewis adam wharton , these players are hard to find
