Your thought process on shooting at a steel target is spot on, I will stack 4x4’s like trees in front of my target, or put some sage brush in front to mimic a real scenario, and shoot at different angles. I live in Nevada, and a lot of the time your shot is obscured. You don’t always get that open country shot. So giving yourself a smaller target window does make you focus in on your shot better than you would just shooting at an unobstructed foam elk target. I’ve lost many arrows doing this and I’m dirt poor, I can usually only afford a dozen arrows for the whole year. I’ve gone into hunts with only 3-4 arrows left, I would rather have the confidence knowing I can shoot my bow with the narrowest margin for error than just knowing I’m on target. I believe In the long run, practicing this way will help you to be more of an ethical hunter and of course a better shot. 🤙🤘🏻
You have inspired me to make a “reducer” circle out of 1/2 inch wood and place it over my arrow target bag, say 6 inch circle. This way if an arrow is off target it gets stuck in the wood and I can re-use it without losing it forever. I like what you say about focus and pressure but I can’t swing a metal target.
Someone commented “get an attorney” That’s outrageous in my opinion. Always handle business at the lowest level. Give the owner a chance to get right. Nice looking range and homestead you got!
Be waiting on that 27v29 lift! Picked one up yesterday to feel it and it is SHORT, I love it, shooting the original Lift 29.5 now and love it. Not sure how many arrows you went through but bet that heart rate and blood pressure went up for sure!
Steel would be a good way to see how durable your arrows are. I put a 1/2"plywood sheet behind by broadhead target, not knowing the arrows were supposed to pass through and get stuck halfway up the arrow. Some setups mushroomed, and some did not.
I have beef cattle and they can sense if the power is on in that fence or not. If you're concerned about them getting out, I would run some power wires on your side of the posts and run your own fencer on them. Get a high power fencer, not a small one and not solar. They sell indicator lights to let you know it's working properly that hang on the fence. use good insulators so when the deer push through the fence, they don't just break off.
I live in Wyoming, and the only thing that will keep them out is a 4 line barbwire fence with stays. A 3 wire fence will not stop them. Hot wire fence will only work for a short period of time.
We had a similar steel target at our range in the 90s. Had the vitals and the EYE that was a one inch hole. People would have competitions shooting the EYE all the time at 20.
I wish there was a place close to me to challenge me everytime I shot my bow, i would do a steal target all the time, it takes so much more patience and practice to hit the foam on a steal targer compared to a regular foam targets, it would definitely elevate my shooting 100%
3 strand barbed wire isn't enough to keep cows in. Particularly as LOOSE as that looks. Electric only helps so much. They will just run through it quick or JUMP it. Been farming for 35 + years around cows and they can be VERY determined. Curious as can be too. Not a good combo. Like being said before MULTIPLE strands of hot wire help. Also offsetting away from the fence helps too as they don't have depth perception because they get popped as they ease up to the fence. My best success is the "pee on yourself" level charger and hot wire that is on long insulators .. and at LEAST two wires
How do you setup your HHA? I've heard you mention using the bottom pin to get more range. But how do you setup all the other pins and then setup the bottom for the dial? Thanks
can you put a couple strands of small aircraft cable along the fence ? my dad does that up north where he lives it stops the moose from eating his garden ,
I can't afford to buy arrow's to shoot at steel target but as you get them for testing perposses guess you can afford but keep it up Dan very informative as always say gday to fmjj for me bloke ps if you'd like to send me new lift x 29.5, 27" draw @65 pounds would be nice
Good luck with the cows. I experienced the same with a neighbor that wasn’t as nice as yours. Thank goodness. There’s what’s called “stock law” here and may be as well where you reside.
Seems like a easy fix...talk to the cows owner and explain yourself to them. That gives them the opportunity to makes things right. Otherwise there's the legal process....it's their cows, their problem. Try to keep things good between y'all. I wish you the best with this Mr Dan. I forgot to say happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I used to live down the road from a guy who kept some Highland cows as "pets". Those monsters will walk straight through barbed wire without even slowing down.😂🤣
I made presher treated frame 2 hole my targets up with wheels on them tip and move .and you can't see them that well . Put wheels on them and let Josh drive the 4 wheeler and you can shoot a moving target. Ha ha
Solar powered electric fence will do it. No need for a fence checker - man up and use the back of your hand. 🤣 Just keep the grass from growing up and shorting it out.
Zero reason to shoot at steel targets. It just serves to destroy arrows. Good custom arrows aren't just expensive they are time consuming to build. If you shoot enough you are going to tear up lots of arrows. Everyone will. Expensive targets to tear up my arrows. NO thanks.
You are showing your privilege. Nobody with working man money shooting at steel targets with arrows IF YOU ARE paying for said arrows. Somebody getting FREE arrows
I'm proud of Dan and the platform he delivers on, he earned whatever privileges he gets and should take full advantage of the opportunity he has worked hard to achieve. I appreciate his privilege it's hopeful and should be an indication hard work and effort pays off.
@@loganmilesMX Yeah, he can do whatever he wants with his own shit, but holy crap trying to suggest people should build expensive arrows then trash them is ludicrous. People have been complaining about the cost of everything for years and now we're supposed to think that ruining expensive stuff is how you "train" for elk hunting? There are better ways to introduce stress and pressure into your archery practice than just throwing money down the drain.
Rattling off how much the overpriced arrows are 😂😂 The whole essence of bow hunting has been lost. Modern "bow hunter" are more worried about food plots trail cams fancy gadgets $2000 bows and likes on YT. 😂😂
Why waste the money on breaking arrows, just have your buddy slap you each time you miss.
getting slapped is not even close to the same pressure you get hunting positive vibes only Sir
How much do you think he’s spending on arrows?
It's more for concentrating on keeping mind on the kill zone. Do mistakes happen, yes. But thos does help
Separation is in the preparation. Love the bow battle the winning bow should face your previous years lift 29.5 which was tight and right.
Steel targets must have been invented by the arrow manufactures! Cool target though!

Thanks for showing the missed shots as well. Great stuff as always Dan.
Love that you went close and focused on a clean break and got confidence back. Great insight

I’ve watched them test it multiple times. They aren’t totally dumb
Every episode is packed with valuable tips and inspiration. Keep up the amazing work, ElkShape! 👏
Ima stick with foam, I don’t build arrows 36 at a time 😂.
Two questions that might be related. One, does Dan own a lawnmower? Two, what was the name of the song featured in this video?
You make a 29.5 look like a 33’ bow. I love it. The lift X is also my first Mathew’s. Drew blood within 24 hours of owning it.
Country livin🙏🙏🙏
Keep up the great content!

looking forward to the RS vs video. Torn between 29.5" like I had last year and a 33" for my western hunting.

nice targets and property wow ! beautiful
can you put a couple strands of small aircraft cable along the fence ? my dad does that up north where he lives it stops the moose from eating his garden ,
The metal elk target needs a little electrical current so when they mess with it they get a shock.

That was HELLA funny 😂

Our cows mess with my archery targets every time they get out
Aint no way I could afford breaking arrows that are 200 dollars a dozen lol
Cattle will push over everything they can get to. They will not leave a single thing standing.
Is that property in a livestock district or open?
Farm I hunt used to have cows. Man they are a pain in the ass!!

It sucks they knocked your targets down but you look like a country boy at his domain, p.s. like how you and Mrs Dan got things set up God bless

Funny and great video!
Fence contractor here. You need a real fence😂
I mean you did have the target Leaning on the fence
Your neighbor needs to build a better fence. 3 strands of barb is not holding anything. He/she needs 5 strands
Hehe better than the city life 👍🏻
I made presher treated frame 2 hole my targets up with wheels on them tip and move .and you can't see them that well . Put wheels on them and let Josh drive the 4 wheeler and you can shoot a moving target. Ha ha
Time to test the aerodynamics of a bludgeon point. Maybe the cows will learn a lesson.
If I were u id put up a pipe fence on the back part of ur property. That will stop them from coming on ur land.
😂 The way the one cow backed up while being told the cuts of meat it contains. That Cow gets a pass.
WOOF expensive video! haha talk about pressure, Love it
Happy turkey day!! 🦃🏹
Fences don't seperate neighbors, they bring them together.
Hahahaa... 😂 Freakin neighbors!
With that title I thought you were talking about MFJJ😅
Pretty common unfortunately.
I mean, trespassing beef Is free beef 🤷 😅
Solar powered electric fence will do it. No need for a fence checker - man up and use the back of your hand. 🤣 Just keep the grass from growing up and shorting it out.
It's called a bb or pellet gun...lol
Lol Dan! Darn mo mo's

looks like Dan is about to have some fresh steaks
Live Targets
Flank steaks yum Dan. Ha. Sorry kid
Well, my friend, you answered your own question. That's why we don't shoot at steel targets. Cause everything cost.
Guess you need to start making steaks out of them. Or have a cheat with the owner
You are showing your privilege. Nobody with working man money shooting at steel targets with arrows IF YOU ARE paying for said arrows. Somebody getting FREE arrows
Yep. City boy in the country 😂😂

Yeah free arrows POSSIBLY from sponsors. GAINING those sponsors isnt free, takes hard work mate. Dont be a jealous prick
@@kylemacdonell1450 that “privilege” garbage has got to stop. The man can do what ever he wants with his money. It’s time that men became men again!

Ah hell no I’d be getting an attorney and taking those neighbors to court they are paying for any damaged targets and any other damage to property 😂
