I have so much respect for SAW gunners or really any LMG equipped troop. When I go to the range and shoot a type 81 for 10 minutes it's heavy af. I can't imagine carrying it in combat, as well as moving around with it constantly from place to place.

It seemed like every time I was on a range that was shooting the saw they spent more time clearing jams than shooting the damn thing. If anything the military should have made a full auto AR or M4. My F A AR15s shoot better and faster than the saw.

249 and 240 were special to me.. I carried the SAW for 2 1/2 years and loved having the Bravo mounted. Little guys were always given the SAW in my unit. Lol
After I got married, my father in law said, “Hey, you’re in the Army. Can you show me how to disassemble my 1911?” I showed him slowly once, and then asked to borrow a tie. I blindfolded myself and knocked it out in under a minute. His jaw was hanging! Lol

I used to win so many contests and bets about disassembling and reassembling firearms in the infantry. Before I was out of basic i could tear down and reassemble an M4/M16 in under a minute, blindfolded. I was always beating people in breakdown races and even faster at assembly. Lots of good memories. 249b is a pain in the ass, he did a good job.
It’s a 240b and I’ve been in a long time and still haven’t ever seen someone break down a weapon blindfolded, that’s Hollywood shit. I have seen them do Pandora’s box and if you don’t have an idea of what I’m saying you didn’t serve.

You don’t remove the bipod on the 240, that requires a hammer and a punch to remove the bipod retaining pin. You’re thinking of the 249 where you remove the gas tube and then the bipod just pops off.
@@user-ip9ru1ca1t No, taking the bipod off of a 240 is not part of disassembly and reassembly. That would require an Armorer to do it if it were necessary for a repair. Once you remove the gas tube on the 249, the bipod pops off easily, but a lot of people have a hard time realigning the gas tube when putting it back in. I’m guessing that is why they said it was the hardest part. The point still stands though, no one other than an armorer would ever take the bipod off of a 240.

I miss my 240G. Kitbashed from a DRMO and brought back to operational status. B's may be better for infantry roles, but when you're a REMF and just need to fill TO&E, as long as it works, that's all that matters. I really miss that gun.
1999 our squad won the marine corps machine gun competition and I disassembled and assembled with safety check a 240 in 32 seconds. Warrant officer had never seen anything like it
Old ass MP soldier here-while in armorer's School, I field stripped, re-assembled, and performed a functions check on an M60 in 23 seconds. I was the honor grad out of that class.
