Love the video!! We have recently changed our pricing and it is now $3/user. With our 6-7 cost saving measures, the end user cost (AVD+Nerdio) can be as low as ~$8/user. This is far less than an unoptimized AVD deployment.
the nerdio product is really a stellar tool and keeps improving. i just recently deployed it for a 700 user enterprise environment that will scale to probably about 4000 in the next few months and it makes it really simple for me to hand off to a service desk to maintain once the pools are setup/deployed and the auto scale rules are in place. i've built a few scripted actions including a few more combined chocolatey packages and a few others including deploying a crowdstrike sensor to keep the security folks happy :) once i start messing around with msix app attach and building those msix packages ill see how to leverage that in the nerdio tool as well. great video as always!
Thanks for the note Bill! I'm very happy to hear about your successful AVD deployment with Nerdio Manager. If there is anything we can do to help or improve in the products, please don't hesitate to let us know.
Good video. I have been using Nerdio for a while and it keeps getting better. Thanks for the review. The videos are always interesting and informative.
Thank you so much for this. Sadly not everyone who I work with will watch your videos. This really is a line in the sand on cost and management optimizations that most MSP's just don't have. As AVD gets more in-depth training level ones to watch all your videos is impossible and a tool like Nerdio can really leverage the GUI button clicky side of things to in-depth processes that most don't know. As always love your content and thanks for teaching me so much. Not the first time I've tried to convince people to use nerdio and definably wont be the last.
Thanks for watching! I know everyone in the world won’t watch my videos…but I’m sure going to try ☺️. If you aren’t using Nerdio…what are you using to manage AVD?
@@AzureAcademy dsc, Ansible, and man hours. We aren't redeploying our images often and using my cloud IT to autoscale which just powers the VMs off. We only have a few clients running AVD so far but plan to convert most of our RDS clients to AVD over the next few years
That method works for sure! The only thing to consider is if your man hours could be better spent. If so then using a tool like Nerdio can make sense and free your man hours up to innovate more.
Great Video Dean. I have used Nerdio in the past and i think its a really cool tool. The challenge i have with Nerdio is its price. I work for an MSP and for less than 250 users Nerdio Manager for MSP license costs is $12 per user, which is almost that same cost of the storage and compute to run AVD per user. So adds a hard sale.
I haven’t looked at the MSP product yet…but I would guess that the cost optimizations I covered should help reduce that total cost of ownership…have you not found this to be the case?
Got it, that makes sense, is that requirement because they have folks working around the clock, or just in case, because they might need it in the middle of the night and don’t want to wait for the “start Vm on connect function”

Thanks for the awesome review Dean! FYI for the OS Shrink that is already available in the scripted actions! We can shrink down to 32GB or 64GB - See this video here - ruclips.net/video/ftH4YEAsdbs/видео.html
It’s possible to install without Global Admin rights as long as someone can pre-create an app registration with proper permissions. Nerdio Manager does not do anything that requires GA, it’s needed only to install the app.
@@megaa1c Yes, it should be possible to pre-create an app registration with proper API permissions and grant tenant-wide consent with Application Administrator role. Then use the advanced installation method of Nerdio Manager and specify the prepared app registration.

cool! thanks for letting me know. What is your main use case or drive in using Nerdio?
Well, Autoscaling is great, however, Our clients tend to prefer having the VM on all the time so we tend to do 3 year Reserved instances.

Great video, any chance you can do a comparison between Hydra and Nerdio. Mainly interested in the differences in scope between JML Processes.
I am not familiar with Hydra…can you send me a link for it?
Hi Dean, how can we optimize the windows before it creates the image in Nerdio ?
The windows multi-session optimizations CANNOT be added into your images. They must be deployed AFTER the VMs are built.
Azure managed disks have never been able to shrink in size so I don't think Nerdio can push that change right?
Actually there is a way Nerdio does this...I will show in a video soon, Stay tuned!
Nice info . Dean can you please share a vedio on azure microservices?
Thanks for the suggestion Ashok…do you have a specific microservice in mind? There are a lot of them ☺️
